Oral health survey on fluorosis in epidemic areas of Xingtai in Hebei province

Abstract:Objective To provide the evidence of controlling the fluorosis epidemic situation in Xingtai of Hebei province,an oral health survey on fluorosis was carried out. Methods Multistage,stratified,clustered and random sampling method was used for the study.Four hundred and sixteen inhabitants were selected and examined by using the(Dean's) fluorosis index(DI).The individuals examined included 149,131 and 136 aged 12,15,and 35-44 years old,respectively.Tooth Surface Index of Fluorosis(TSIF) was used in 178 filtered samples.SPSS10.0 software was used for data analysis. Results The prevalence of fluorosis in the fluorosis epidemic areas of Xingtai of Hebei province was(71.20%),which were mainly mild ((20%)) and moderate((34%)) cases.Community Fluorosis Index(CFI) for the examined population was(1.77),implying that the degree of fluorosis prevalence in the community was moderate.The average TSIF value of upper anterior teeth were 3.48,2.28 and 0.86 for the 12,15 and 35～44 years old groups,respectively.The difference among the groups had statistical significance. Conclusion The severe fluorosis epidemic was found in Xingtai of Hebei Province.Public health measures should be carried out urgently to control the conditions and to prevent the problems.
