Abstract:The study aimed at investigating the effects of price increase influenced directly by inflation at the indusurial level on residents' perception of price fairness and negative emotions.Scenario-simulated method was applied in this study and a 2×2×2 three-factor between-subjects design was adopted.The researchers collected 723 samples using a questionnaire to examine the effect of price increase caused directly by inflation.The following conclusions are drawn from the results:1) all price increases caused by inflation were considered unfair;2) the locus of causality and the level of price increase significantly affected the perception of price fairness and negative emotions,and the reference system significantly affected the perception of price fairness;3) the interactive effects between the locus of causality,the level of price increase and the reference system were significant;4) egalitarianism directly affected negative emotions,and 5) when the future prices were anticipated,cognitive deviation appeared.

Abstract:On the basis of Toda-Yamamoto's long-term cause and effects test program and generalized impulse response technology,this article conducts researches on the long-term cause and effects relationship between total social real fixed investment and the movement of retail price level,and then further examines the role of money supply M1 and trade interdependence in promoting such relationship.The results are as follows.(1)Money supply M1 is the sole endogenous variant.Its growth does not directly lead to the movement of price level,but indirectly influences it through total social real fixed investment.(2)There exists a two-way cause and effects relationship between trade interdependence and total social real fixed investment.Only through the latter can the former indirectly influence the movement of price level.(3)China's reform and opening-up policy not only helps to absorb surplus production capacity but also intensifies the problem.However,the absorption effects surpass the intensification results.(4)The positive shock of investing in a unit will lead to mitigate inflation in the first 2-4 years,but will result in relatively serious deflation in the late five years.

Abstract:Compared with monetary theory,the latest developed FTPL is a more general price theory whose policy suggestions have more advantages.After demonstrating theoretical justification of Woodford’s policy suggestions,this paper reports divergence of opinions in international academic circles and shows our opinions.We believe that generally,during normal periods,it’s prone to take active monetary policy and local Ricardian policy mix;while during abnormal periods,it’s prone to take passive monetary policy and non-Ricardian mix.But,if during normal periods,the upward adjustment in interest rate is limited,and it’s a right way to take passive monetary policy and non-Ricardian policy mix.

Abstract:Inflation is a kind of price rising phenomenon which is psychologically and financially difficult for consumers to accept and bear. It can reflect the fact that the level of price rising exceeds continuously the level of labor productivity and the growth rate of income. Inflation is a result produced by real factors and non-real factors working together in economic activities. The key for governing inflation is to optimize the credit structure and to increase the supply of inputs to the economic departments at base levels, rather than simply reduce the amount of the money supply. At present, to prevent the "stagflation" should become the central task of macro-controlling in China.

Abstract:The price index had begun to rise since the second half of 2003. In order to control the possible inflation, the central bank had employed tight monetary policy. However, the monetary policy had not realized the objectives of controlling price. The domestic price increased at the great pace after undergoing long-term deflation. This paper tried to explain the profound reason of the sudden inflation using the “hypothesis of missing money” so as to enrich the study of monetary policy theory and to raise some countermeasures for improving the efficiency of China's monetary policy.

Abstract:Currently,our country is facing quite severe inflation pressure.Inflation will not only cause the cost rise of enterprise,living consumption increases of residents,decline of dweller deposit,but also aggravated the probability of economic crisis and the difficulty of inflation expectations management.Causes of China's present and future inflation are mainly embodied in three aspects: first,loose monetary policy leads to domestic liquidity surplus;secondly,a flood of dollars and international commodity prices imports into Chinese input;thirdly,the demographic dividend inflection and natural disaster of agriculture caused the great rise of labor costs and prices of agricultural products.Therefore,we should take measures in order to effectively alleviate the inflation pressure,namely: 1.To adjust the goal of monetary policy,and strictly control the liquidity;2.To transform trade policy and reduce the foreign exchange reserves;3,To accelerate the adjustment of economic structure to a fundamental transformation of economic development mode;4.To properly guide the public inflation expectations and stimulate price stability;5.To strengthen agricultural production and promote the circulation of commodities.
Inflation Disagreement Weakens the Power of Monetary Policy

Abstract:Households often disagree in their inflation outlooks. We present novel empirical evidence that inflation disagreement weakens the power of forward guidance and conventional monetary policy. These empirical observations can be rationalized by a model featuring heterogeneous beliefs about the central banks’ inflation target. An agent who perceives higher future inflation also perceives a lower real interest rate and thus would like to borrow more to finance consumption, subject to borrowing constraints. Higher inflation disagreement would lead to a larger share of borrowing-constrained agents, resulting in more sluggish responses of aggregate consumption to changes in both current and expected future interest rates. This mechanism also provides a microeconomic foundation for Euler equation discounting that helps resolve the forward guidance puzzle.

Abstract:Many short-term and long-term factors contribute to the current inflation in China.The former include demand pulling,natural disasters,inflation expectation and market speculation,and the later include the transformation of the pattern of economic growth,economic restructuring,limited natural resources,factor price revaluation and cost push.The paper argues that moderate inflation is acceptable and helpful to economic restructuring and the transformation of the pattern of economic development.The effect of macro-control preliminarily appeares,and moderately tightening monetary policy should continue with gradually weakening force.The mechanism for setting RMB exchange rates should be further improved with reference to a basket of currencies to maintain nominal effective exchange rate of RMB basically stable and achieve moderate appreciation of real effective exchange rate.We should continue to deepen the reform of financial system and improve the mechanism of monetary control.We should safeguard agricultural production to stabilize agricultural supply and ensure sustaining increase of peasants' income.At the same time,stringent measures should be taken to crack down on illegal actions of driving up prices and speculating.

Abstract:<p>Emerging market governments hold mixed debt portfolios: They borrow at home and abroad in both nominal and real terms. This paper incorporates such a mixed debt structure into a theory of sovereign debt, default and inflation. The government optimally uses both default and inflation to balance its budget. The portfolio structure affects the relative benefits of inflation, default and incentives to accumulate debt. A calibrated version of the model can account for key features of the Mexican economy. We use the model to study if portfolio shifts away from purely real and external debt contributed to emerging market disinflation in the mid 1990s. We find that the answer depends on the distinction between ownership and denomination: Increasingly nominal debt is inflationary if held abroad, but lowers inflation if held at home.</p>

Abstract:We document that persistent and lagged inflation (with respect to output) is a worldwide phenomenon in that these short-run inflation dynamics are highly synchronized across countries. We investigate whether standard monetary models are consistent with the empirical facts. We find that neither the new Keynesian sticky-price model nor the Mankiw-Reis (QJE 2002) sticky-information model can explain the international synchronization of the short-run inflation dynamics. Although the sticky-information model of Mankiw and Reis is very successful in explaining the persistent and lagged inflation dynamics for each individual country, its open-economy analogue fails to explain the synchronization of the inflation dynamics among the countries using calibrated international covariance of monetary shocks. The reason is that the dynamic effects of monetary shocks on inflation in one country cannot be effectively propagated across and preserved in other countries. We conclude that the short-run inflation dynamics and their global synchronization cannot be a monetary phenomenon, but may be instead the consequence of non-monetary shocks. An independent contribution of the paper is to provide a simple solution technique for solving general equilibrium models with lagged expectations (e.g., due to sticky information).

Abstract:China’s new round inflation is not induced by the simple economic contradictions which are caused by commodity supply falling short of demand.It’s an imported inflation induced by domestic economic structural disequilibrium and foreign economic disequilibrium in open economies.Tightening monetary policy can suppress overheated investment,and restrain excessive liquidity and inflation temporarily.But it can’t solve the deeper economic contradictions of China’s structural disequilibrium.To curb China’s new round of inflation,we need to choose tight monetary policy that can control economy at aggregate level,take actions to solv the deeper economic contradictions of China’s structural disequilibrium as a starting point and choose optimum fiscal and taxation policies that can adjust economic structure.The article proposes some views on fiscal and taxation policies of adjusting china’s new round inflation.

Abstract:Many economists believe that prices are ?sticky??they adjust slowly. This stickiness, they suggest, means that changes in the money supply have an impact on the real economy, inducing changes in investment, employment, output and consumption, an effect that can be exploited by policymakers. {{p}} In this essay, we argue that price stickiness doesn?t necessarily generate an exploitable policy option. We describe a model in which money is neutral (that is, growth or reduction in money supply doesn?t impact real economic activity) even in a context of sluggish price adjustment.

Abstract:We show that the highly persistent inflation dynamics and its lead-lag relationship with output can be explained by a standard flexible price RBC model augmented with endogenous monetary policy. Endogenous monetary policy acting upon the illusion that prices are sticky and money is effective can create price movements that appear to indicate price stickiness, although there is none in the economy.

Abstract:Based on U.S. macroeconomic data from the past 30 years, it appears that the loose monetary policy of maintaining low interest rates did not effectively encourage businesses and consumers to increase their purchases. Despite the intent of the policy to stimulate demand for goods and services, it instead had an unexpected effect on the financial sector by driving up demand for assets, which led to inflation in equity and real estate prices. As a result, a loose monetary policy is unlikely to be an effective strategy for countering a recession, which contradicts the working assumption of the central banks around the world.

Abstract:Developing country inflation is in the headlines again. Mainstream macroeconomics typically ignores the role of conflict while non‐mainstream work tends to ignore macroeconomic constraints. This paper revisits the issue employing a dependent economy framework with eclectic characteristics. Specifically, I explore the mechanisms that propagate both real and monetary sources of inflation in the presence of real wage resistance and distributional conflict. The analysis shows that the inability to pay for subsidies with taxes or bond issuance in a stylized developing economy could create a situation where a relatively small shock leads to sustained and accelerating inflation and a wage‐price spiral, thanks to conflicting claims on income. Subsidies to protect consumers from external price shocks could, similarly, leave a country vulnerable to accelerating wage‐price spirals as the stabilizing relative price effects of a declining foreign asset position are dampened. Distributional conflict thus plays the role of sustainer rather than the primum mobile. Price controls could, in theory, better enable inflation management if these do not result in redistribution toward spenders. Such controls, however, create other trade‐offs for countries facing balance‐of‐payments fragility.

Abstract:Standard economic reasoning shows that higher inflation imposes higher tax rates on money balances and unindexed savings, causing financial losses to households and reducing their real incomes. The leading cases for the Federal Reserve to raise its inflation target—that more inflation better "greases the wheels" of a sticky‐price economy, or that it beneficially keeps us farther above the zero lower bound on nominal interest rates—rest on supposed gains from higher inflation that do not plausibly outweigh the losses. The "grease" argument that low inflation reduces real GDP is inconsistent with historical experience under low‐inflation regimes. The argument that the inflation target should be raised to give the Federal Reserve "more ammunition" to fight recessions overlooks effective and less costly methods for conducting counter‐recessionary monetary policy, in particular quantitative easing.
