Abstract:Polystyrene supported TiCl4 (Ps-TiCl4) and polystyrene supported FeCl3 (Ps-FeCl3) were prepared by coordinating Lewis acids with polystyrene. The catalysts were characterized by TGA, BET, SEM, IR and pyridine-adsorbed IR. The loading of Ps-TiCl4 and Ps-FeCl3 were 0.35 and 0.3 mmol center dot g-1 respectively. Both catalysts were found to be efficient for the tetrahydropyranylation and detetrahydropyranylation of various alcohols and phenols in different solvents. Two catalysts can be recovered and reused for five times with good activity.

Abstract:We report the synthesis of a poly(1-chloro-2-phenylacetylene) derivative with an electron-withdrawing substituent on the phenyl group. A combination of an N-heterocyclic carbene-based Pd catalyst (NHC-Pd) with silver trifluoromethyl sulfonate (AgOTf) formed an active catalytic system for the polymerization of 1-chloro-2-(para-substituted)-phenylacetylenes. Based on this active catalytic system, functional poly(di-substituted acetylene) (PDSA) bearing an aldehyde group (P3) was obtained in high yield. The exceptional P3 bearing a reactive aldehyde group on its side chain was used as a precursor to be subsequently modified with amines to generate a novel PDSA (P3-ppm) possessing Schiff-base functionalities in good yield.

Abstract:The transylidation reactions of polymer-bound selenium bromide with alkylidenetriphenylphosphoranes 1 gave resin 2, which is sufficiently reactive to undergo Wittig-type reactions to afford the vinylic selenide resins 3. Cleavage gave ketones and aldehydes under different conditions.

Abstract:An acidic inorganic polymer, polysulfosiloxane, has been prepared and used as ligand for preparing a polysulfosiloxane–platinum complex. It has been found that such a complex could catalyze the hydrogenation of aldehydes and ketones to alcohols, giving as much as 100% yield at room temperature and under atmospheric pressure. Temperature, S/Pt molar ratio in the complex and solvents greatly influenced the reaction. This complex was very stable and could be used several times without any change in catalytic activity.
Preparation and catalytic application of phenylsulfonic acid functionalized porous phosphate heterostructure materials

Abstract:A series of phenylsulfonic acid functionalized porous phosphate heterostructure (PPH) materials were prepared by co-condensation method and characterized by SEM, FTIR, Si-29 MAS NMR, TG and N-2 adsorption. Their catalytic behavior for alkylation of hydroquinone with tert-butanol was compared. The catalytic activity was greatly enhanced after the introduction of phenylsulfonic acid group. ZrP-0.4-2-10%-PhSO3H is a more active catalyst for the reaction in comparison to others. The conversion of hydroquinone and the yield of 2-tert-butylhydroquinone on the catalyst reach 85.4% and 58.5% at 150 degrees C, respectively. The activity correlates well with the amount of the accessible acid sites on its surface. The catalyst is stable and reusable, and the product yield is only reduced by 10% after three runs. The reduction in activity is probably caused by leaching of phenylsulfonic group or deposition of coke on the active sites.

Abstract:The synthesis of polystyrene-supported alpha-selenoacetic acid, alpha-selenopropionic acid, and alpha-selenophenylacetic acid is described. The reaction of the dilithio derivatives of polymer-supported alpha-selenocarboxylic acids with racemic epoxides or optically active styrene oxide afforded polystyrene-supported gamma-substituted alpha-selenobutyrolactones. The alpha-alkylation reaction of gamma-substituted polystyrene-supported alpha-selenobutyrolactones provided another route for the synthesis of polystyrene-supported alpha,gamma-disubstituted alpha-selenobutyrolactones. Subsequent oxidation-elimination with an excess of 30% hydrogen peroxide at room temperature afforded substituted (3- and 5-mono-; 3,4- and 3,5-di) 2(5H)-furanones in high yields and good purities.

Abstract:Treatment of lithio derivative of novel PEG-supported alpha-phenylselenopropionate with aldehydes, followed by oxidation-elimination with 30% hydrogen peroxide, formed Baylis-Hillman products, which were then reacted with sodium arylsulfinate. The resulting sulfonylated products were cleaved from the PEG efficiently affording methyl (2Z)-2-arylsulfonylmethyl-2-alkenoates in good yields and high purities.
