Abstract:Polystyrene supported TiCl4 (Ps-TiCl4) and polystyrene supported FeCl3 (Ps-FeCl3) were prepared by coordinating Lewis acids with polystyrene. The catalysts were characterized by TGA, BET, SEM, IR and pyridine-adsorbed IR. The loading of Ps-TiCl4 and Ps-FeCl3 were 0.35 and 0.3 mmol center dot g-1 respectively. Both catalysts were found to be efficient for the tetrahydropyranylation and detetrahydropyranylation of various alcohols and phenols in different solvents. Two catalysts can be recovered and reused for five times with good activity.

Abstract:AbstractOrganoselenium‐catalyzed oxidative deoximations afforded ketones and aldehydes under mild conditions. The reactions employ hydrogen peroxide and air as clean oxidants and lead to a waste‐free and metal‐free deprotection protocol for carbonyl protection strategies as well as the green synthesis of ketones and aldehydes. The mechanisms of this interesting organoselenium‐catalyzed reaction have been investigated by control experiments as well as the selenium 77 nuclear magnetic resonance (77Se NMR) tests. Abstract:A series of modified chloromethyl polystyrene resins loaded with peroxo phosphotungstic acid catalysts were synthesized for the selective oxidation of cyclohexene. The surface of resin was enriched with high concentration quaternary ammonium salt, and grafted with a large amount of peroxo PW-anion through ion exchange. The novel resin catalyst showed excellent cyclohexene conversion and epoxide selectivity using 30% H2O2 as oxidant at ambient temperature. Furthermore, the resin catalyst exhibited excellent recycling stability, which can be reused by a simple filtration and the peroxo phosphotungstic acid did not leach into the solvent after reaction.

Abstract:A Fe(III)-promoted highly selective photo-oxidation of benzylic C–H bond delivering relative carbonyl products is reported. By altering the concentration of ferric salt, methylarenes can be selectively oxidized under UV irradiation to furnish aromatic aldehydes or acids, respectively. By this protocol, the oxidation of ethylarenes provides the corresponding acetophenones. The reaction is inferred to involve divergent pathways in different concentrations of catalyst for the alternative selectivity between aldehydes and aicds. The reusable catalyst, high conversion and selectivity make this oxidation a green and economic protocol for the synthesis of aromatic carbonyl compounds.

Abstract:A novel oxidative deoximation method was developed in this article. Compared with the reported organoselenium-catalyzed oxidative deoximation reaction, this reaction employed N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) as the co-catalyst, so that the oxidative deoximation reaction could utilize air as oxidant in the green DMC solvent under mild reaction conditions. Control experiments and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis results indicated that NHPI was essential for activating the catalytic organoselenium species. It could accelerate the activation of molecular oxygen in air to promote the reaction process. The reaction can avoid metal residues in product and is of potential application values in pharmaceutical industry due to the transition metal-free process.

Abstract:A sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate-mediated photocatalytic strategy for the aerobic oxidative esterification of aromatic aldehydes and alcohols has been developed, in which the in-situ formed pentacoordinate sulfide derived from readily available and inexpensive sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate and oxygen acts as the photocatalyst, and the corresponding aromatic esters were provided in moderate to good yields. The present method is an economical and environmentally friendly protocol.

Abstract:The diphenyldiselenide catalyzed oxidation of cyclohexene by hydrogen peroxide led to cyclohexane-1,2-diol with high conversion and selectivity. Compared with traditional metal catalyst, selenium catalysts are cheaper and less harmful to environment. This synthetic method is also clean and highly atom-economic. Therefore, this reaction is highly applicable.

Abstract:Oxidation is among the most crucial reactions for the production of chemicals and many noble metals are the efficient active centers. The catalysts derived from non-noble metal species are preferred thanks the low cost and earth abundance but suffered from inferior efficiency to noble metal ones. Herein, we demonstrated an unusual effective non-noble metal heterogeneous catalyst for the solvent-free synthesis of aromatic aldehydes from selective O2-mediated oxidation of alcoholic compounds. The target catalyst was prepared by the copolymerization of divinylimidazole dibromide and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, followed by loading phosphomolybdenum anions via ion exchange. The catalyst gave high yields of up to 93% towards aldehydes, stable reusability, and extendable substrate scope in transforming aromatic alcohols without any solvent. The high performance comes from the abundant low valence Mo species derived from the strong cation-anion interaction, which promoted the O2 activation to give superoxides (•O2−) as the reactive oxygen species.

Abstract:Novel polystyrene supported selenosulfones from 1% cross-linked polystyrene resin were prepared and applied to free radical cyclization reactions of 1,6-dienes followed by the subsequent "traceless" resin release by oxidation-elimination, providing a convenient method for the synthesis of methylenecyclopentanes. Apart from getting the methylenecyclopentanes, we found that cyclopentanylmethyl alcohols were formed by the oxidation-elimination of the resin, which has not been observed in solution-phase synthesis under the same conditions.

Abstract:Stable and easy-to-handle sodium salts of sulfonyl oximes were first identified to proceed via visible-light-driven phophine-mediated successive deoxygenation to realize the anti-Markovnikov hydrothiolation of alkenes, which could serve as an odorless sulfur source. Mechanistic studies revealed that the key thiyl radical intermediate could be generated in situ from the sulfonyl oxime anion via a phosphine-mediated fragmentation and a sequential deoxygenation process. Notably, a wide range of alkenes, including acrylamides, acrylates, vinyl ketones, vinyl sulfones, and acrylonitriles, are competent substrates for this protocol, which is highly beneficial for the construction of structurally diversified organosulfur compounds.

Abstract:Oxidant-controlled selective mono-/di-alkenylation of aryl C-H bonds via Pd-catalysis is reported. The substrate scopes for both the mono- and di-alkenylation were good. Thioether was used as the directing group and the product can be transformed to a useful sulfoxide-olefin ligand by simple oxidation in quantitative yield.
