Abstract:To evaluate the effects of operation conditions on formation and emission of PCDD/Fs from fluid- ized bed municipal solid waste （MSW） incinerators, the PCDD/Fs samples taken from different areas of four typical fluidized bed incinerators with different treatment capacities were analyzed and studied. Re- sults show that the combustion temperature plays a role in influencing the PCDD/Fs formation, but it is not the main influencing factor for final emission of PCDD/Fs. The PCDD/Fs, formed in heterogeneous reaction at low temperature during flue gas passing through the purification devices, contributes to the o- verall emission of PCDD/Fs. The service age of bag filters is a key factor highly affecting the PCDD/Fs e- mission. New bag filters are quite effective on control of PCDD/Fs emission, but aged bag filters have poor and even negative effect in PCDD/Fs removal, due to its ＂memory effect＂.

Abstract:With the increasing production of municipal solid waste (MSW), MSW incineration power plants have become one of the main emission sources for heavy metals in China. Aiming at addressing the pollution problem of heavy metals caused by MSW incineration, this paper summarizes the emission status of MSW incineration power plants in China, overviews control standards of heavy metals at home and abroad, and points out that the emission and control of heavy metals should not be ignored under the continuous increasing production of MSW. Besides, the migration and transformation behavior of heavy metals during MSW incineration is summarized from three aspects: volatilization behavior, speciation transformation, and mass distribution in incineration products. The influencing factors of volatilization and reaction mechanism of speciation transformation are analyzed. The effects on migration and distribution of heavy metals when co-incineration with other organic solid wastes are also introduced. Finally, the control technologies of heavy metals in MSW incineration plants are summarized. Meanwhile, the removal effects of adsorbents, air pollution control devices and fly ash treatment methods on heavy metals are introduced in detail. It is of great importance to strengthening the synergistic removal capacity of air pollution control devices (APCDs) and developing high efficiency adsorbents which could resist acid gas. Moreover, the leaching risk of heavy metals should be paid more attention in fly ash after solidification and stabilization.

Abstract:Municipal sewage sludge is a significant by-product in the conventional treatment of municipal wastewater. Its output has greatly increased with the progress of urbanization and industrialization. The harmless disposal and resource utilization of municipal sewage sludge has become an urgent problem to be solved in the environment field. Incineration is a relatively mature technology for harmless disposal of municipal sewage sludge but faces pollutant emission and high cost problems. In this work, the latest research progress on municipal sewage sludge incineration and its pollutant control is summarized and analyzed systematically. Sludge co-combustion in municipal solid waste incinerators, coal-fired power plants and cement kilns does not require new sludge incineration equipments and flue gas treatment equipments. At the same time, co-combustion is also more environmentally friendly under certain circumstances. Staged air combustion, low oxygen dilution combustion and other methods can optimize combustion and effectively control nitrogen oxide emission during sludge combustion. Ca-based additives have significant effect on sulfur removal. Cl-containing compounds affect the volatilization of heavy metals and the formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans.

Abstract:According to the pollution problems of heavy metals in fly ash from municipal solid waste(MSW) incinerator,the origin and formation mechanics of heavy metals pollution,in waste incineration process were introduced.The methods of fly ash treatments and disposal for MSW incineration at home and abroad have been presented,the fly ash stabilizing methods for MSW incineration being emphatically expounded.These results would provide necessary theory reference for the harmlessness and resource recovery of fly ash.Mean while,the development direction of the treatment for heavy metals in fly ash treatment from MSW incinerator in the future would be put forward.

Abstract:A large amount of industrial solid waste (including waste plastics, textiles, wood, etc., which are byproducts of industrial production) urgently needs to be treated. Incineration is undoubtedly the most efficient and convenient method. The existing municipal solid waste incineration plants can be transformed to burn such industrial wastes. However, the potential risks associated with high levels of heavy metals in industrial waste and the air pollution caused by co-incineration pose significant challenges to the co-incineration disposal of industrial solid waste. The change of physical and chemical properties of municipal solid waste and the emission characteristics of flue gas pollutants after co-incineration of industrial waste were studied by means of material flow simulation and experiment. In addition, experiments were designed to study the effects of temperature, calcium sulfur ratio and chlorine content on heavy metal emission during the incineration of industrial waste. The results showed that co-incineration of a certain proportion of industrial waste significantly increased the calorific value of municipal solid waste, but excessive mixing of plastic and paper industrial waste would increase the ash content. Co-incineration of plastic industrial waste can significantly increase HCl, and with the increase of temperature, the transformation of Cl to HCl is more thorough. The increase of temperature can promote the migration of Cr, Pb and Se elements to the gas phase. When Cr, Pb, and Se elements are present in the gas phase, they can combine with other gases and aerosols to form particulate matter and toxic substances, causing air pollution. When Ca/S is 1, Ba, Mn, Ni, Zn can effectively reduce the retention rate of elements in the ash. Under certain conditions, chlorine in industrial waste plastics will react with Zn to form tiny particles and low boiling point chlorides, which will increase its volatility. The mineral components in the ash can also be used for making ceramsite and building materials. These results will provide reference for the pollutants controlling during co-incineration of industrial waste and municipal solid waste process.

Abstract:During incineration,air pollution control (APC) system residues will be produced which contain heavy metals and other contaminants.Pollution characteristics of APC residues are analyzed based on the experimental results about heavy metal charcateristics and soluble salts of the APC residues from Shanghai Pudong New Area municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) Plant,together with research results about dioxins and furans in other literatures.It is concluded that the APC residues are hazardous waste according to the National Identification Standard for Hazardous Wastes-Extraction Procedure Toxicity;Pb,Cd,Hg and Zn are the main heavy metals of concern in the APC residues which may do great harm to environments; leachable Cd is mainly composed of exchangeable and acid soluble Cd,while Pb and Zn in leachate are mainly acid soluble,thus easily leaching from the residues and causing pollution under acid conditions; the content of soluble salts is 22.1%,mainly in chlorides,which may increase solubility of some contaminants and pollute groundwater when disposed.Dioxins and furans in APC residues pose the risks of environmental safety and human health.
