Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the lower bound for the variance of partial sums of strong near-epoch dependent variables under quite weak conditions. By suitably applying this result, we derive the limit behavior of the variance of the partial sums, which is especially useful in studying the large sample properties for econometric time series models with strong near-epoch dependent innovations.

Abstract:In this paper, we defined a new generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters, and gave the upper bound of the generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters. Moreover, we studied the asymptotic estimation problem of the mean value of the generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters and obtained a sharp asymptotic formula for it. By using this asymptotic formula, we also gave the mean value of the generalized Dedekind sum.

Thus, a new simple proof of this existing result [N. Bag, A. Rojas-León, and W. P. Zhang, On some conjectures on generalized quadratic Gauss sums and related problems , Finite Fields Appl. 86 (2023), 10213] is provided.

Abstract:In this paper, we will investigate the approximations of inverse moments for double-indexed weighted sums of random variables under sub-linear expectations. The asymptotic approximations of inverse moments and the convergence rate of approximations are established under the meaning of upper expectation Eˆ and the lower expectation εˆ, respectively. Moreover, we carry out some simulations to verify the validity of our theoretical results. The results obtained in the paper improve and extend the corresponding ones of Yang et al. [24] from independent random variables in the classical probability space to END random variables in sub-linear expectation space.

Abstract:Recently, Bordell\'{e}s, Dai, Heyman, Pan and Shparlinski in \cite{Igor} considered a partial sum involving the Euler totient function and the integer parts $\lfloor x/n\rfloor$ function. Among other things, they obtained reasonably tight upper and lower bounds for their sum using the theory of exponent pairs and in particular, using a recently discovered Bourgain's exponent pair. Based on numerical evidences, they also pose a question on the asymptotic behaviour for their sum which we state here as a conjecture. The aim of this paper is to prove an asymptotic formula for the average of their sum in the interval $[1,x]$. We show via Perron's formula that this average is a certain weighted analogue of the sum that Bordell\'{e}s \textit{et al} considered in their paper. Further, we show that their conjecture is true under certain conditions. Our proof involves Perron's contour integral method besides some analytic estimates of the Riemann zeta function $\zeta(s)$ in the zero-free region.

Abstract:Sukochev and Zanin resolved an open problem due to B. Simon concerning optimal constants in Hölder inequality for the weak Schatten classes of compact operators. In this note we observe that these constants, by introducing the modified weak Schatten quasi-norms, can be renormalised so that the original Simon's conjecture (with optimal constant 1) does hold. We also provide an unexpectedly simple proof for the modified Hölder inequality and its sharpness.

Abstract:The variance of primes in short intervals relates to the Riemann Hypothesis, Montgomery's Pair Correlation Conjecture and the Hardy--Littlewood Conjecture. In regards to its asymptotics, very little is known unconditionally. We study the variance of integers without prime factors below $y$, in short intervals. We use complex analysis and sieve theory to prove an unconditional asymptotic result in a range for which we give evidence is qualitatively best possible. We find that this variance connects with statistics of $y$-smooth numbers, and, as with primes, is asymptotically smaller than the naive probabilistic prediction once the length of the interval is at least a power of $y$.
