Abstract:This paper describes the nature of the Chinese Classics and the inappropriateness of classifying the collection as literature within the Library of Congress Classification scheme. The practical and philosophical reasons for the inadequacy of Library of Congress Classification in comprehending and classifying the Chinese Classics are examined. A call is made to change the current treatment that classifies the Chinese Classics in “Class PL” (Literature) to “Class B” (Philosophy) along with modifications to relevant schedules and the addition of more sophisticated hierarchies and cross references for accuracy and consistency.

Abstract:According to the requirements of the Ministry of Culture,the work of the fifth public libraries assessment and rating will be implemented deeply in 2013.Commissioned by the Ministry of Culture,NLC Research Institute has undertaken the amendment work of the fourth assessment and rating standard of public libraries and formulated the fifth standard.Based on a systematic summary of experiences and inadequacies of the previous four public library assessment and rating work,and a comprehensive study of domestic and overseas researches and practices in public library assessments,this work has taken full account of new situation and new tasks which public libraries have been facing currently,and has sought advice from experts in various research and practice units.The new standard includes seven parts: facilities and equipment,funds and personnel,document resources,service work,cooperation and coordination,management and commendation,and key cultural projects.The new standard has made revisions in the following aspects: paying attention to linking up with relevant policies and standards,optimizing the framework of the indicators and the score distribution,adding and deleting some indicators,rectifying the value assignment of some indicators,refining the remarks of indicators,and adjusting the necessary conditions for grading.9 tabs.21 refs.

Abstract:Objective The standard of Classification and Determination of Constitution in TCM has been published in April,2009 and applied in national test units for 4 years.The paper investigated the revise necessity of the standard and provided suggestions and thinking train for revise direction through surveying the application of the standard.The purpose is to further improve the sensitivity and contribution of the standard.Methods Taken the constitution scale in the standard as specific object,the questionnaire of application suggestion to the scale was issued to 130 national centers of preventive treatment of diseases and the feedback was collected,the reviews on the structure and content of the scale were collected from experts of related disciplines,and questionnaire was issued to common people for collecting the opinions in the application of the scale.All data was analyzed by using statistical method.Results After analyzing 30 pieces of questionnaire collected from national centers of preventive treatment of diseases,the results showed that the total structure of the scale was accepted by common people,but impalpable words were major questions in the scale.The on-site consultation in related experts showed that the content validity and construct validity reached the level required by the scale,and the numbers of items could be reduced,some describing modes could be changed and calculation method of constitutional types could be simplified.The survey in common people showed that the difference in age and educational degree had influences on filling questionnaire,and calculating and understanding of judging results.The outcomes had significance after statistical analysis(P0.05).Conclusion After spreading and application in national range for several years,the standard of Classification and Determination of Constitution in TCM has been well received by community hospitals,centers of preventive treatment of diseases and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.However,hospitals,common people and experts in related disciplines have given revise suggestions and feedbacks.It is feasible and necessary to revise and adjust the standard partly.

Abstract:Tsinghua College devoted great attention to the teaching of western culture while looked down on the teaching of Chinese before the May Fourth Movement.What's more,it boycotted the New Literature in the teaching of Chinese.The reform of the teaching of Chinese focused on teaching method but not contents,which showed a conservative stand.After the May Fourth Movement,Tsinghua College began to lay equal stress on western culture courses and Chinese culture courses.Its attitude to the New Literature also changed from repulsion to assimilation even acceptance.The guiding ideology of the reform of the teaching of Chinese changed from reform for use to reform for culture.Being neither running after the New Literature nor sticking to old ways,Tsinghua College walked between the Chinese and Western cultures as well as the old and new,which led to a new road of fusing Chinese and Western cultures.The reform of the teaching of Chinese around the May Fourth Movement showed a unique cultural and educational idea differentiated from that of the new culture advocates.

Abstract:Mapping knowledge organization system is one of the methods to solve the interoperation between different knowledge organization systems. In this paper,we mapping Chinese Library Classification and Library of Congress Classification in the fields of mathematics,psychology and education,and explore the differences between the two classifications,discuss the difficulty of mapping,and explore the solution.During mapping Chinese Library Classification and Library of Congress Classification,the principle is"narrow-match first,more relevant term first".And there are four match types:exact-match,narrow-match,broad-match and relevant-match. Each of the four relationships contains 196 items (24.5%), 423 items (52.9%), 50 items (6.3%) and 130 items (16.3%). The main factors that influenced the match type are: different cultural and language background, different social backgrounds, different principles when compiling the classifications, the gap of subject development in America and China.

Abstract:Modern Chinese library cataloging practices were developed from Western practices and rules of library cataloging. In a long period of time, various major libraries had their own cataloging rules and no unified national rules existed. During June 1994-October 1995, the National Technical Committee for Information and Documentation Standardization and the Library Society of China jointly sponsored and pushed to organize an editorial board of Chinese Cataloging Rules, which was published in 1996, just before the 62nd IFLA General Conference in Beijing. Chinese Cataloging Rules was based mainly on ISBDs and AACR2, with the consideration of Chinese characteristics and without the consideration of the concept of main entry. The second edition of Chinese Cataloging Rules was published in 2005. The National Library of China organized the revision work, and experts from major libraries and academic institutions participated in the work. Since then, there have been quite a lot of controversies over the use of the rules, which are focused on the internationalization and national characteristics. All people talked about internationalization and ISBD. But they have different points of view about the Chinese characteristics and different ways of understanding about the articles in ISBD. This paper is to compare International Cataloguing Principles and Chinese Cataloging Rules, and analyze their differences. It is jointly written by Prof. Songlin Wang (uniform titles and GMD), Ms. Qinfang Xie (personal names and serials), Mr. Shaoping Wang (corporate bodies and multi-part structures) and Dr. Ben Gu (descriptive cataloging and personal names). Through such cooperation, we are trying to reflect the actual situation in China and considering a national coordination in the near future. The new recension will still use the same original edition Bainaben. we will exactly collate all kinds of fragments of Song editon,extant and integrated Yuan editions which include the Ming's recension,company with Jigu attic edition of Mr mao, WU-ying-dian of Qing dynasty and zhejiang pubishing house edition, we will emphasize on comparing the book to itself and the others.At the same time, we will absorb the researches of former wisdoms and contemporary scholars to provide a new untimate edition which has strict criterion, accurate punctuation and aborative collation.
