A common fixed-point theorem for a series of contraction mappings on p-metric space is also given, in which the metric space 2-metric space and 3-metric space are the special cases of p-metric space.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate properties of metric projections onto specific closed and geodesically convex proper subsets of Wasserstein spaces $(\mathcal{P}_p(\mathbf{R}^d),W_p).$ When $d=1$, as $(\mathcal{P}_2(\mathbf{R}),W_2)$ is isometrically isomorphic to a flat space with a Hilbertian structure, the corresponding projection operators are expected to be nonexpansive. We give a direct proof of this fact, relying on intrinsic analysis, which also implies nonexpansiveness in certain special cases in higher dimensions. When $d>1$, we show the failure of this property in two regimes: when $p>1$ is either small enough or large enough. Finally, we prove some positive curvature properties of Wasserstein spaces $(\mathcal{P}_p(\mathbf{R}^d),W_p)$ when $d\ge 2$ and $p\in(1,+\infty)$ are arbitrary: we show that Wasserstein spaces are nowhere locally Busemann NPC spaces, and they nowhere locally satisfy the so-called projection criterion. As a corollary of the former, they have nonnegative upper Alexandrov curvature, in a precise sense that we define here. In our analysis a particular subset of probability measures having densities uniformly bounded above by a given constant plays a special role.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the directional differentiability of metric projection and its properties in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Bochner space Lp(S; X), in which (S, A, mu) is a positive measure space and X is a uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space. Let (arbitrary) A in A with measure of A greater than 0 and define a subspace Lp(A; X) of Lp(S; X), which is considered as a closed and convex subset of Lp(S; X). We first study the properties of the normalized duality mapping in Lp(S; X) and in Lp(A; X). For any c in Lp(A; X) and r > 0, we define a closed ball BA(c; r) in Lp(A; X) and a cylinder CA(c; r) in Lp(S; X) with base BA(c; r). Then, we investigate some optimal properties of the corresponding metric projections P(Lp(A;X)), P(BA(c;r)) and P(CA(c;r)) that include the inverse images, the directional differentiability and the precise solutions of their directional derivatives.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the Mordukhovich derivatives to precisely find the covering constants for the metric projection operator onto nonempty closed and convex subsets in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach spaces. We consider three cases of the subsets: closed balls in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach spaces, closed and convex cylinders in l, and the positive cone in L, for some p. By using Theorem 3.1 in [2] and as applications of covering constants obtained in this paper, we prove the solvability of some stochastic fixed-point problems. We also provide three examples with specific solutions of stochastic fixed-point problems.

Abstract:In general Banach spaces, the metric projection map lacks the powerful properties it enjoys in Hilbert spaces. There are a few generalized projections that have been proposed in order to resolve many of the deficiencies of the metric projection. However, such notions are predominantly studied in Banach spaces with rich topological structures, such as uniformly convex Banach spaces. In this paper, we investigate two notions of generalized projection in general Banach spaces. Various examples are provided to demonstrate the proposed notions and the loss of structure in the generalized projections after migrating from specially structured Banach spaces to general Banach spaces. Connections between the generalized projection and the metric projection are thoroughly explored.

Abstract:Let $H$ be a real Hilbert space and $C$ a nonempty closed and convex subset of $H$. Let $P_C: H\rightarrow C$ denote the (standard) metric projection operator. In this paper, we study the Gâteaux directional differentiability of $P_C$ and investigate some of its properties. The Gâteaux directionally derivatives of $P_C$ are precisely given for the following cases of the considered subset $C$: 1. closed and convex subsets; 2. closed balls; 3. closed and convex cones (including proper closed subspaces). For special Hilbert spaces, we consider directional differentiability of $P_C$ for some Hilbert spaces with orthonormal bases and the real Hilbert space $L^2([-\pi,\pi])$ with the trigonometric orthonormal basis.

Abstract:As we know, B.Sz-Nagy and C. Foias studied systematically contractions on Hilbertspaces and developed the harmonic analysis theory of operators on Hilbert spaces. Since 1950s,people paid great attention to the study of contractions on π k spaces. Only a few results havebeen obtained until today; in particular, the spectral theory of contractions on π k Spaces andcorresponding harmonic analysis theory have left still unexplored. This paper, as a continuationof [1], [2], [6], in which the authors after discussing some problems such as the negative invariantsubspaces and unitary dilations of contractions on complete spaces with indefinite metrics, estab-lish the triangle model of contractions on π k spaces and furthermore, apply the triangle modelto the study of spectral theory of contractions on π k spaces, which is essential to the harmonicanalysis of operators on π k spaces.
Positive contractive projections on noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces and nonassociative $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces

Abstract:We continue our investigation of contractive projections on noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces where $1 < p < \infty$ started in \cite{ArR19}. We improve the results of \cite{ArR19} and we characterize precisely the positive contractive projections on a noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-space associated with a $\sigma$-finite von Neumann algebra. We connect this topic to the theory of $\mathrm{JW}^*$-algebras. More precisely, in large cases, we are able to show that the range of a positive contractive projection is isometric to a nonassociative $\mathrm{L}^p$-space associated to a $\mathrm{JW}^*$-algebra.

Continuity of Metric Projection Operator from C[0, 1] onto Pn with Applications to Mordukhovich Derivatives

Abstract:Let C[0, 1] be the Banach space of all continuous real valued functions on [0, 1]. For an arbitrarily given nonnegative integer n, let Pn denote the set of all polynomials with degree less than or equal to n. Pn is a closed subspace of C[0, 1]. In this paper, we first prove (in details) that the metric projection operator from C[0, 1] to Pn is a single-valued mapping and it is (norm to norm) continuous. Then, we use the continuity of Pn to investigate the Gateaux directional derivatives, some properties and fixed-point properties of the Mordukhovich derivatives of the metric projection operator.

Abstract:In this article, we introduce two multivalued contractive mappings within the framework of Hausdorff controlled metric spaces, employing concepts of admissibility and C ‐class functions. The first mapping is a (β∗,ζ) ‐generalized contractive multivalued mapping, and the second is a (β,W(ζ,ξ)) ‐multivalued mapping. We establish conditions guaranteeing the existence of fixed points for these mappings. To support our theoretical findings, we provide a numerical example, demonstrating the independence of the contractive conditions for the mappings. Furthermore, we apply our results to a specific problem in polynomial equations. These findings complement several existing results in the literature.

Abstract:A [Formula: see text]-metric on an n-dimensional closed Riemannian manifold naturally induces a distance function, provided p is sufficiently close to n. If a sequence of metrics [Formula: see text] converges in [Formula: see text] to a limit metric [Formula: see text], then the corresponding distance functions [Formula: see text] subconverge to a limit distance function d, which satisfies [Formula: see text]. As an application, we show that the above convergence result applies to a sequence of conformal metrics with [Formula: see text]-bounded scalar curvatures, under certain geometric assumptions. In particular, in this special setting, the limit distance function d actually coincides with [Formula: see text].

The major issue of interest is the Banach Fixed Point Theorem (BFPT), which states the existence of a unique fixed point in fractional metric spaces. The significance of this theorem stems from its utility in a variety of mathematical situations for approximating solutions and resolving iterative problems. On this foundational basis, the study expands by introducing the concept of fractional geometric contraction mappings, which provide a new perspective on how convergence develops in fractional metric spaces.

Abstract:We prove the first theorem on projections on general noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces associated with non-type I von Neumann algebras where $1 \leqslant p < \infty$. This is the first progress on this topic since the seminal work of Arazy and Friedman [Memoirs AMS 1992] where the problem of the description of contractively complemented subspaces of noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces is explicitly raised. We show that the range of a 2-positive contractive projection on an arbitrary noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-space is completely order isometrically isomorphic to some noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-space. This result is sharp and is even new for Schatten spaces $S^p$. Our approach relies on non-tracial Haagerup's noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces in an essential way, even in the case of a projection acting on a Schatten space and is unrelated to the methods of Arazy and Friedman.

Abstract:The probabilistic cone b-metric space is a novel concept that we describe in this study along with some of its fundamental topological properties and instances. We also established the fixed point theorem for the probabilistic nonlinear Banach contraction mapping on this kind of spaces. Many prior findings in the literature are generalized and unified by our findings. In order to illustrate the basic theorem in ordinary cone b-metric spaces, some related findings are also provided with an application to integral equation.

Abstract:Fixed Point Theory is among the most valued research topics nowadays. Over the years, it has been developed in three directions: by generalizing the metric space, by establishing new contractive conditions, and by applying its results to various fields such as Differential Equations, Integral Equations, Economics, etc. In this paper, we define a new class of cone metric spaces called the class of extended quasi-cone b-metric spaces. Extended quasi-cone b-metric spaces generalize cone metric spaces and quasi-cone b-metric spaces. We have studied topological issues, such as the right and left topologies, right (left) Cauchy, and convergent sequences. Furthermore, there are determined generalized τ-almost contractions, which extend the almost contractions. The highlight of this study is the investigation of the existence and uniqueness of a fixed point for some types of generalized τ-almost contractions in extended quasi-cone b-metric space. We prove some corollaries and theorems for known contractions in extended quasi-cone b-metric spaces. Our results generalize some known theorems given in literature due to the new cone metric spaces and contractions. Concrete examples illustrate theoretical outcomes. In addition, we show an application of the main results to Integral Equations, which provides the applicative side of them.

With respect to these closed and convex subsets, we find the exact expressions for Frechet derivatives and Gateaux directional derivatives of the metric projection operator.
