Abstract:As we know, B.Sz-Nagy and C. Foias studied systematically contractions on Hilbertspaces and developed the harmonic analysis theory of operators on Hilbert spaces. Since 1950s,people paid great attention to the study of contractions on π k spaces. Only a few results havebeen obtained until today; in particular, the spectral theory of contractions on π k Spaces andcorresponding harmonic analysis theory have left still unexplored. This paper, as a continuationof [1], [2], [6], in which the authors after discussing some problems such as the negative invariantsubspaces and unitary dilations of contractions on complete spaces with indefinite metrics, estab-lish the triangle model of contractions on π k spaces and furthermore, apply the triangle modelto the study of spectral theory of contractions on π k spaces, which is essential to the harmonicanalysis of operators on π k spaces.

Abstract:We extend our family rigidity and vanishing theorems in [LiuMaZ] to the Spin c case.In particular, we prove a ^-theory version of the main results of [H], [Liul, Theorem B] for a family of almost complex manifolds.0. Introduction.Let M, B be two compact smooth manifolds, and TT : M -» B be a smooth fibration with compact fibre X.Let TX be the relative tangent bundle.Assume that a compact Lie group G acts fiberwise on M, that is, the action preserves each fiber of TT.Let P be a family of G-equivariant elliptic operators along the fiber X.Then the family index of P, Ind(P), is a well-defined element in K(B) (cf.[AS]) and is a virtual G-representation (cf.[LiuMal]).We denote by (Ind(P)) G £ K(B) the G-invariant part of Ind(P).A family of elliptic operator P is said to be rigid on the equivariant Chern character level with respect to this G-action, if the equivariant Chern character ch 5 (Ind(P)) G H*(B) is independent of g G G. Spectral theory of $p$-adic unitary operator

Abstract:The $p$-adic unitary operator $U$ is defined as an invertible operator on $p$-adic ultrametric Banach space such that $\left |U\right |=\left |U^{-1}\right |=1$. We point out $U$ has a spectral measure valued in $\textbf{projection functors}$, which can be explained as the measure theory on the formal group scheme. The spectrum decomposition of $U$ is complete when $\psi$ is a $p$-adic wave function. We study $\textbf{the Galois theory of operators}$. The abelian extension theory of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ is connected to the topological properties of the $p$-adic unitary operator. We classify the $p$-adic unitary operator as three types: $\textbf{Teichmüller type}, \textbf{continuous type}, \textbf{pro-finite type}$. Finally, we establish a $\textbf{framework of $p$-adic quantum mechanics}$, where projection functor plays a role of quantum measurement.

Abstract:We introduce a trilinear functional of differential one-forms for a finitely summable regular spectral triple with a noncommutative residue. We demonstrate that for a canonical spectral triple over a closed spin manifold it recovers the torsion of the linear connection. We examine several spectral triples, including Hodge-de Rham, Einstein-Yang-Mills, almost-commutative two-sheeted space, conformally rescaled noncommutative tori, and quantum SU (2) group, showing that the third one has a nonvanishing torsion if nontrivially coupled.

Spectral gaps, critical exponents and representations of negatively curved groups

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a notion of Poincaré exponent for isometric representations of discrete groups on Hilbert spaces. Similarly as growth exponents control the geometry this exponent is shown to control the size of spectral gaps. Following similar ideas as Patterson and Sullivan it is used in the case of negatively curved groups to construct weakly contained boundary representations reflecting the spectral properties of the original representation analogously as complementary series representations in the case of semi-simple Lie groups. This is exploited to deduced sharp estimates on spectral invariants. A quantitive property (T) á la Cowling is also established proving uniform bound on the mixing rate of representations of hyperbolic groups with property (T). Along the way some properties of boundary representations are discussed. A original characterisation of the positivity of the so-called Knapp-Stein operators and certain fusion rules on the boundary complementary series representations are established.

Abstract:Fixed Point Theory is among the most valued research topics nowadays. Over the years, it has been developed in three directions: by generalizing the metric space, by establishing new contractive conditions, and by applying its results to various fields such as Differential Equations, Integral Equations, Economics, etc. In this paper, we define a new class of cone metric spaces called the class of extended quasi-cone b-metric spaces. Extended quasi-cone b-metric spaces generalize cone metric spaces and quasi-cone b-metric spaces. We have studied topological issues, such as the right and left topologies, right (left) Cauchy, and convergent sequences. Furthermore, there are determined generalized τ-almost contractions, which extend the almost contractions. The highlight of this study is the investigation of the existence and uniqueness of a fixed point for some types of generalized τ-almost contractions in extended quasi-cone b-metric space. We prove some corollaries and theorems for known contractions in extended quasi-cone b-metric spaces. Our results generalize some known theorems given in literature due to the new cone metric spaces and contractions. Concrete examples illustrate theoretical outcomes. In addition, we show an application of the main results to Integral Equations, which provides the applicative side of them.

Abstract:The strong version of the Krein-Rutman theorem requires that the positive cone of the Banach space has nonempty interior and the compact map is strongly positive, mapping nonzero points in the cone into its interior. In this paper, we first generalize this version of the Krein-Rutman theorem to the case of "semi-strongly positive"operators; and we prove it in a totally elementary fashion. We then prove the equivalence of semi-strong positivity and irreducibility in a Banach lattice, linking the afore-mentioned result with the Krein-Rutman theorem for irreducible operators. One of the things we emphasize is to use "upper and lower spectral radii" to characterize, in the fashion of Collatz-Wielandt formula for nonnegative irreducible matrices, the principal eigenvalue of these operators. For reducible operators, we prove that the lower spectral radius always serves as the least upper bound of the set of eigenvalues pertaining to positive eigenvectors, and the upper spectral radius the greatest lower bound of the set. Finally, we demonstrate the full power of these Krein-Rutman theorems on some PDE examples such as elliptic eigenvalue problems on non-smooth domains, and cooperative systems which may or may not be fully coupled, by using as few PDE tools as possible.

Abstract:We study the spectral gap for transfer operators of the skew product F : T-d x T-l -> T-d x T-l given by F(x,y) = (Tx,y + tau (x) (mod Z(l))), where T : T-d -> T-d is a C-infinity uniformly expanding endomorphism, and the fiber map tau : T-d -> R-l is a C-infinity map. We construct a Hilbert space W-s for any s < 0, which contains all the Holder functions of Milder exponents |s| on T-d x T-l. Applying the method of semiclassical analysis, we obtain the dichotomy: either the transfer operator has a spectral gap on W-s, or tau is an essential coboundary. In the former case, F mixes exponentially fast for Milder observables with Holder exponents |s|; and in the latter case, either F is not weak mixing and it is semiconjugate to a circle rotation, or F is unstably mixing, i.e. it can be approximated by non-mixing skew products.

Abstract:Let (C, C'S) be a type I irreducible reductive dual pair in Sp(W-R). We assume that (C, C') is in the stable range where G is the smaller member. Let K and K' be maximal compact subgroups of G and G' respectively. Let g = t circle plus p and g' = t' circle plus p' be the complexified Cartan decompositions of the Lie algebras of G and G' respectively. Let (K) over tilde and (K') over tilde be the inverse images of K and K' in the metaplectic double cover Sp(W-R) of Sp(W-R). Let rho be a genuine irreducible (g, (K) over tilde)-module. Our first main result is that if rho is unitarizable, then except for one special case, the full local theta lift rho' = Theta(rho) is equal to the local theta lift theta(rho). Thus excluding the special case, the full theta lift rho' is an irreducible and unitarizable (g', (K') over tilde)-module. Our second main result is that the associated variety and the associated cycle of p' are the theta lifts of the associated variety and the associated cycle of the contragredient representation p* respectively. Finally we obtain some interesting (9, (K) over tilde)-modules whose (K) over tilde -spectrums are isomorphic to the spaces of global sections of some vector bundles on some nilpotent K-C-orbits in p*.
Fixed point results for contractions of polynomial type

Abstract:We introduce two new classes of single-valued contractions of polynomial type defined on a metric space. For the first one, called the class of polynomial contractions, we establish two fixed point theorems. Namely, we first consider the case when the mapping is continuous. Next, we weaken the continuity condition. In particular, we recover Banach's fixed point theorem. The second class, called the class of almost polynomial contractions, includes the class of almost contractions introduced by Berinde [Nonlinear Analysis Forum. 9(1) (2004) 43--53]. A fixed point theorem is established for almost polynomial contractions. The obtained result generalizes that derived by Berinde in the above reference. Several examples showing that our generalizations are significant, are provided.

Abstract:A dynamical system is called contractive if any two solutions approach one another at an exponential rate. More precisely, the dynamics contracts lines at an exponential rate. This property implies highly ordered asymptotic behavior including entrainment to time-varying periodic vector fields and, in particular, global asymptotic stability for time-invariant vector fields. Contraction theory has found numerous applications in systems and control theory because there exist easy to verify sufficient conditions, based on matrix measures, guaranteeing contraction. Here, we provide a geometric generalization of contraction theory called k-order contraction. A dynamical system is called k-order contractive if the dynamics contracts k-parallelotopes at an exponential rate. For k=1 this reduces to standard contraction. We describe easy to verify sufficient conditions for k-order contractivity based on matrix measures and the kth additive compound of the Jacobian of the vector field. We also describe applications of the seminal work of Muldowney and Li, that can be interpreted in the framework of 2-order contraction, to systems and control theory.

Abstract:We study bounded operators defined in terms of the regular representations of the $C^*$-algebra of an amenable, Hausdorff, second countable locally compact groupoid endowed with a continuous $2$-cocycle. We concentrate on spectral quantities associated to natural quotients of this twisted algebra, such as the essential spectrum, the essential numerical range, and Fredholm properties. We obtain decompositions for the regular representations associated to units of the groupoid belonging to a free locally closed orbit, in terms of spectral quantities attached to points (or orbits) in the boundary of this main orbit. As examples, we discuss various classes of magnetic pseudo-differential operators on nilpotent groups. We also prove localization and non-propagation properties associated to suitable parts of the essential spectrum. These are applied to twisted groupoids having a totally intransitive groupoid restriction at the boundary.

Abstract:We consider a normal operator $T$ on a Hilbert space $H$. Under various assumptions on the spectrum of $T$, we give bounds for the spectrum of $T+A$ where $A$ is $T$-bounded with relative bound less than 1 but we do not assume that $A$ is symmetric or normal. If the imaginary part of the spectrum of $T$ is bounded, then the spectrum of $T+A$ is contained in the region between certain hyperbolas whose asymptotic slope depends on the $T$-bound of $A$. If the spectrum of $T$ is contained in a bisector, then the spectrum of $T+A$ is contained in the area between certain rotated hyperbola. The case of infinite gaps in the spectrum of $T$ is studied. Moreover, we prove a stability result for the essential spectrum of $T+A$. If $A$ is even $p$-subordinate to $T$, then we obtain stronger results for the localisation of the spectrum of $T+A$.

Abstract:We solve the ten martini problem (Cantor spectrum with no condition on irrational frequencies, previously only established for the almost Mathieu) for a large class of one-frequency quasiperiodic operators, including nonperturbative analytic neighborhoods of several popular explicit families. The proof is based on the structural analysis of dual cocycles as introduced in [35]. As a part of the proof, we develop several general ingredients of independent interest: Kotani theory, for a class of finite-range operators over general minimal underlying dynamics, making the first step towards and providing a partial solution of the Kotani-Simon problem, simplicity of point spectrum for the same class, and the all-frequency version of Puig's argument.
