Abstract:A method was developed for the simultaneous determination of carbon monoxide,carbon dioxide and three light hydrocarbons i.e.methane,ethylene and acetylene in air by gas chromatography.The GC system consisted of auto-injection,one ten-port valve together with a six-port valve and one ten-port valve in series with a four-port valve.Sample injection,column isolation and column back-flushing were realized in this way mentioned.An HP-PLOT Q open tubular capillary column was employed for the separation of the five gases followed by thermal conductivity detection.After the separation was completed,carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide were converted into methane with the use of a nickel-based methanizer for the detection by flame ionization.Separation of all the target analytes was achieved in one single analysis within 9 min.Carbon monoxide,methane,carbon dioxide,ethylene and acetylene were found to be linear over the ranges of 3.3-4 990.0,3.3-5 010.0,6.6-4 990.0,4.2-5 080.0,3.9-5 030.0 μmol/mol,respectively.The correlation coefficients were not less than 0.997 with the detection limits of 1.0-2.0 μmol/mol.Reproducibility of two levels,namely std1 and std2 were found to be not more than 3.5％ (n =5).This method was simple,accurate and maneuverable.

Abstract:A gas chromatographic system suitable for the determination of sulphur compounds at low ppb levels is proposed. The design of a reproducible flame photometric detector is discussed. Air entrainment into the flame was especially detrimental and a bottom-sealed chimney was used to prevent air suction. A linear relationship between the detector response and analyte concentration was obtained for hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide and dimethyl sulphide when the amount of sulphur in each injection was less than 3 · 10−10 g. Under these conditions the detection limit can be determined with high accuracy. Examples are presented showing the potential of the method for environmental analysis.

Abstract:Hydrogen fuel cells are among the promising energy sources worldwide,which could accomplish cyclic production of energy and avoid the emission of green-house or contaminative byproducts.However,sul-fur compounds (SCs) even at trace level (nmol/mol) are usually involved in cell construction and further H2 production,which would cause degradation of the catalysts and shorten the lifetime of the fuel cells.Moreover,the highly reactive SCs could cause varied species and concentrations of them in complex ma-trices,so online rather than offline analysis of SCs in H2 would be preferred.In this context,we developed a new system combining online cryogenic preconcentration of nine SCs and subsequent determination by GC-SCD (sulfur chemiluminescent detector),with the correlation coefficients of the calibration curves higher than 0.999,calculated limits of detection no higher than 0.050 nmol/mol,analytical time around 30 min per sample,and satisfactory precision and accuracy (RSD ＜ 5％ and SD ＜ 15％).The analytical performance was much better than or at least comparable to the previously reported and the developed system was successfully applied for real sample analysis.

Abstract:Biological desulfurization is a process in which sulfur compounds are removed from gas and oil using microorganisms. It is a simple process that has mild operating conditions, high desulfurization efficiency, low energy consumption and less environmental pollution. However, there is still a lack of simple and efficient analytical methods for quantitatively analyzing the sulfur compounds in the biological desulfurization process. In order to solve this problem, the analytical method for the simultaneous determination of sulfite, thiosulfate and sulfide in biological desulfurization solutions by pre-column fluorescence derivation using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed. The standard curves of sulfur species in this analytical method had good linear relationships with correlation coefficients of 0.999 5, 0.999 7, and 0.999 7 for sulfite, thiosulfate and sulfide, respectively. The detection limits of these sulfur compounds were 0.000 6, 0.000 7 and 0.001 1 μmol/L; the range of recovery rates were 98.17 to 101.9%, 100.9 to 102.6%, and 101.1 to 104.2%; which had good repeatability and stability. The analytical method was simple, efficient and accurate, and could be used to simultaneously determine the sulfur compounds in different biological desulfurization systems.

Abstract:Six sulfur compounds in high sour petroleum and natural gas were determined qualitatively and quantitatively using gas chromatography equipped with capillary column and FPD(Flame Photometric Detector).The relationship between concentrations of sulfur compounds and response peak heights was obtained,and the effect of sample collection bag made of different materials on analytical results was investigated.The sulfur compounds mentioned above can be separated effectively with the capillary column.The natural logarithm of concentrations and response peak heights show good linear correlation with a correlation coefficient above 0.980.The sample collection bag made of common rubber material is not suitable for the quantitative analysis because of its evident adsorption of organic sulfur compounds.

Abstract:A new detection system consisted of a flame ionization detector (FID) and a sulfur chemiluminescence detector (SCD) was developed for sensitive and interference free determination of total sulfur in natural gas by non-separation gas chromatography. In this system, sulfur containing compounds and hydrocarbons were firstly burned in the FID using oxygen rich flame and converted to SO2, CO2 and H2O, respectively. The products from FID were transported into the SCD with hydrogen rich atmosphere wherein only SO2 could be reduced to SO and reacted with O3 to produce characteristic chemiluminescence. Therefore, the chemiluminescence of CO found in conventional SCD were eliminated because CO2 could not be reduced to CO under these conditions. The experimental parameters were systematically investigated. Limit of detection obtained by the proposed system is better than 0.5 μmol/mol for total sulfur and superior to those previously reported. The proposed method not only retains the advantages of the conventional SCD but also provides several unique advantages including no hydrocarbon interference, better stability, and easier calculation. The utility of this technique was demonstrated by the determination of total sulfur in real samples and two certified reference materials (GBW 06332 and GBW (E) 061320).

Abstract:Objective:To establish eluent concentration and retention time selection in the simultaneous determination of Sulfuric acid and sulfur trioxide in the air of workplace by the ion chromatographic method.Methods:Sulfuric acid and sulfur trioxide in the air of workplace was collected with sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate in the porous glass plate absorber,filtrated by 0.22 μm)aqueous microporous membrane,and then went through the separation column of IonpacAS11-HC(4*250 mm),the protective column of IonpacAG11-HC,ASRS300(4-mm) anion suppressor,automatic KOH eluent,and detected by conductivity detector.Results:The correlation coefficient was high(r=0.99996),RSD<5.5,the recovery rate was 92%～105%.Conclusion:The method is simple,convenient,accurate,high sensitive and suitable for determination of sulfuric acid and sulfur trioxide in large quantities of samples.

Abstract:The sulfur compounds in light hydrocarbon and its products were determined by gas chromatography with a flame photometric detector. The experimental conditions were examined and some types of standard curves were studied in detail.The determination limits of 2-propyl mercapan,1-propyl mercapan and methyl thioether are 0.56,0.21 and 0.37 mg/L,respectively.The proposed method was applied to the determination of sulfur compounds in light hydrocarbon and its products and the results obtained are satisfactory.
Determination of Sulphur in SCR Denitrification Catalyst by High Frequency Combustion Infrared Absorption Method

Abstract:The determination of sulfur content in SCR denitrification catalyst by high frequency combustion infrared absorption method was carried out.The influence on sulfur measurement results was discussed from three aspects:sample pretreatment,flux and addition order,sample quantity selection.The instrument calibration curve uses spectral pure titanium dioxide as the matrix,and the base potassium sulfate as the calibration material,reducing the system error introduced by the calibration.The linear equation of the calibration curve is y＝0.081 5x+0.004 9,and the correlation coefficient is 0.999 6.The results show that the detection limit of sulfur in this method is 1.4×10-5%,the lower limit of the method is 5.6×10-5%,and the relative standard deviation of four sam-ples with different sulfur content is less than 2%(n＝7).The method recovery rate was between 95.7% and 102%.The method has simple operation,fast detection speed,low detection limit,and accurate and reliable results,which can meet the requirements of SCR denitrification catalyst analysis.

Abstract:Using TXS-Ⅱ sulfur analyzer quantitatively analyzed the sulfur compounds in low temperature carbonization gas.The result showed that the method of eliminating H2S and COS of high concentration by desulfurizer and using TCP column to analyze the compositions of sulfur compounds by quantitative analysis,leads to a smaller measured value,because the desulfurizer will absorb some organic sulfur.Four different chromatographic columns were made to check their effects in desulfurization.After a series of exploration,a gas chromatography analysis method of simplicity and accuracy to determine the sulfur compounds in low temperature carbonization gas was established.Besides,the sulfur compounds in low temperature carbonization gas of different brown coal were analyzed by this method,providing a data base for desulfurization of pyrolysis gas.

Abstract:The composition of flue gas is analyzed with a HP6890N gas chromatograph in which the samples go through different columns by switching the valves, and hence all components are determined by one injection. The quantification is applied by external standard method, while the individual relative correction factor is acquired at the mean value. The lowest detectable content for carbon monoxide 0.05%,oxygen and 0.1%,carbon dioxide is 0.05%,0.1% and 0.1% respectively.

Abstract:The trace total sulfur in coke oven gas was determined by ultraviolet fluorescence spectroscopy.The influences of the conditions,such as sample introduction rate,injection volume,gas flow rate,combustion temperature,sampling methods and injection methods,were investigated.The detection limit of total sulfur was15μL·m-3.The determination results were in agreement with that obtained by GC and microcoulometry,with RSD(n=7)less than 10%.

Abstract:Objective To establish a method for determining sulfur dioxide in Chinese herbal pieces.Methods The headspace gas chromatography method was used.The detector was the flame photometric detector(FPD).The analytical capillary column was HP-PLOT/Q(30 m×0.32 mm,20 μm).The injector temperature of GC was 220 ℃and the detector temperature was 300 ℃.Results Sulfur dioxide appeared the good linearity in the concentration range of 10-100 μg·mL-1(r =0.999 1).The average recovery rate was 80.6%and RSD was 1.3%.Conclusion The method is simple,strong specificity,high-sensitivity and good reproducibility.It can be used for the determination of residual sulfur dioxide in Chinese herbal pieces.

Abstract:Gas chromatography with sample-pretreatment by solid-phase micro-extraction(SPME) and with pulse flame photometric detection was applied to the determination of 6 stenchy sulfides(hydrogen sulfide,carbon disulfide,methanethiol,1,2-ethanedithiol,dimethylthioether and carbonyl sulfide) in polluted air.Conditions of SPME and gas chromatography were studied and optimized.Correlation coefficients of the linear regression equations of these compounds were found in the range of 0.998 0 to 0.999 4,their detection limits in the range of 1.9-4.1 pg and their recoveries in the range 89%-102%.The proposed method has been applied to the analysis of 3 air sample,giving values of RSD in range from 1.3% to 3.1%.

Abstract:At present, the methods for sulfur solubility testing of high-sulfur natural gas generally use laboratory proportioning gas samples and then connect equipment to test the sulfur solubility of the gas samples based on the adsorption deposition mechanism. However, these testing methods generally have the following problems: (1) The equipment used in these test methods has safety hazards such as leakage at pipe and valve connections. (2) The sulfur solubility of real gas samples cannot be measured directly. (3) The equipment is difficult to clean, and it is especially difficult to clean the sulfur deposited at pipe elbows and valve connections. This will lead to low sulfur solubility test results. (4) The thermal insulation performance during the test process is not good, and temperature changes have a great impact on gas volume measurement. In order to solve the above problems, a testing method and comprehensive experimental device for the solubility of elemental sulfur in high-sulfur natural gas were established. This test method wraps the entire experimental device with a metal shell, which has good safety and thermal insulation performance, and it uses customized pipeline connections, which have high flushing efficiency, less sulfur deposition, and more accurate experimental results. The upgraded filtration system can directly measure the sulfur dissolution of real gas samples, and a CS2 solution recovery process is added to reduce the risk of leakage and environmental pollution. This method and equipment were used to test the elemental sulfur solubility determination of real gas samples from a high-sulfur gas well. The research results show that the solubility of elemental sulfur is related to temperature, pressure, and H2S concentration and increases with the increase in temperature, pressure, and H2S concentration. Compared with the previous method, this method has less residual sulfur during the test process, the measured sulfur solubility is 2.13% greater, and the test results are more accurate and reliable. This research result provides important basic data support for accurately measuring the elemental sulfur solubility of real gas samples in high-sulfur gas reservoirs and dealing with sulfur deposition problems.

Abstract:The oxygen flask combustion method is used to treat petrochemical products sample and sulfur in the sample is determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES).In order to control burning rate and achieve complete combustion,filter paper column and small filter paper are used as supports for pretreatment of diesel fuel sample and instant glue sample,respectively.The sulfurous acid gas(SO2) contained in the combustion gas is dissolved in aqueous solution and determined by ICP-AES.The analytical conditions are optimized.The detection limit is computed to be 0.019 mg·L-1 through 11 times of blank tests.Precision tests are conducted with 3 diesel oil samples and the relative standard deviations are less than 2.0%,which is consistent with the result obtained by standard test method(lamp method).Five instant glue samples are also determined and the relative standard deviations are less than 2.2%.Recovery test is conducted and the recovery rate is in the range of 98.1%~103.0%.The method turns out to be simple and precise,which thus may be suitable for the determination of sulfur in other chemical products.

Abstract:GC/FPD coupled the Air Preconcentrations was applied to the determination of 7 kinds of trace sulfur compounds in environment air. It was found that the system blank of the Air Preconcentration-GC/FPD was clear, and no residuum after the analysis of sulfur compounds. Results showed that the correlation coefficient of 7 sulfur compounds were all above 0. 995, it has high accuracy and precision. In addition, the recovery of sulfur compounds were in the range of 98. 6%-105. 3%, 99. 1%-103. 7%,85. 7%-99. 7%. The relative standard deviations of the methods lower than 6. 9% for 6 compounds, but for hydrogen sulfide, the relative standard deviation was 10. 9%. Otherwise, when inject volume was 400 mL,the limit detection of 7 sulfur compounds was 0. 10-1. 1 ng/m3 . So the measurement system was sensitive for sulfur compounds and very suitable for determination of the trace sulfur compounds in environment air.

Abstract:Aiming at quantitative analysis of trace organics in the condensate from natural gas to syngas process, the total organic carbon (TOC ) analyzer, gas chromatography (GC ), ion chromatography (IC ) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC ) were used. The quantitative accuracy was verified. Results showed that the TOC mass concentration in the condensate was 9.27 mg/L,in which the mass concentration of methanol was less than 0.1 mg/L by GC analysis,and the mass concentration of formic acid was 32.5 mg/L with the spiked recovery of 102.6% by HPLC,while the mass concentration of formic acid and acetic acid were 39.23 and 0.15 mg/L by IC with the spiked recoveries of 1 18.0% and 1 15.9%,respectively. The mass concentration of formic acid detected by IC was 33.22 mg/L after the correction of spiked recovery, which was equal to that of HPLC analysis.91.46% of the organic carbon in the condensate is derived from formic acid.The TOC content measured by TOC analyzer can be used to predict the content of organic acid.The content of formic acid in the condensate can be precisely determined by HPLC,however,the content of acetic acid in the condensate determined by IC might be higher than the actual value.
