Abstract:This paper reviews recent researches and developments on surfactants in latex paints.Special attention is put on the use of emulsifiers in latex polymerization and latex paints. The important roles of emulsifiers in polymer latex and latex paint system and the competitive adsorption between surfactants in paint formulations are discussed. The advantage of polymerizable surfactants as emulsifier is points out and development and application of polymerizable surfactants are introduced.

Abstract:Chloroprene rubber(CR) is one of the most important synthetic rubbers.In this paper,filling modification,blending modification,graft modification and chemical modification of CR are reviewed.Besides,the technology progress in the field of modification of CR and the main characteristics and uses of modified CR are presented.Compared to filling modification,blending modification and graft modification,research on chemical modification is relatively few,mainly focused on hydrogenated modification.With respect to hydrogenated modification,halogenated modification is not only able to saturate residual double bond in chloroprene rubber,but also able to improve the activity of rubber vulcanization.Therefore,optimization of hydrogenated modification and exploration of halogenated modification of CR will be the future direction of modification of chloroprene rubber.

Abstract:Polymer latexes have been widely used in paints, adhesives, binders, paper coatings, textile finishes, pharmaceuticals, floor polishes, printing inks, etc. because of the reduced volatile organic compound emissions afforded by these water-based systems. Rosin has excellent properties of corrosion, moisture, insulation, emulsifying and thickening. The rosin is introduced into polymer latexes to produce polymer latex modified with rosin via blending or copolymerization methods, which not only broadens the use of deep-processing of rosin, but also widens the scope of application of polymer latexes. The research progress of polymer latexes including water dispersible polymers modified with rosin was reviewed. The tendency of polymer latexes modified with rosin is brought forward.

Abstract:Environmental friendly leather finishing agent based on polyurethane has attracted great attention in recent years.In this paper we reported the synthesis of polyurethane latex through pre-polymerization,chain extension,neutralization and emulsification using organic siloxane polymer as the modifier.The surface composition,surface hydrophilicity,and mechanical properties were investigated.The results indicated that the resultant latex could be stored up to one year.Furthermore,due to the introduction of organic siloxane blocks and the in situ crosslinking during the film formation,the coating was hydrophobic and showed excellent crocking fastness.

Abstract:The natural rubber(NR) latex blending-modified by chlorinated paraffin and antimony oxide blending was prepared.A comparison of flame-resistance properties and the mechanical properties of vulcanized latex film were made between NR latex and modified latex.The properties of product were analyzed by TG,DTG and DSC.The results showed that the flame-resistance properties of modified latex were higher than that of the non-modified latex's,natural rubber latex modified by the chlorinated paraffin wax and Sb2O3 could produce the coordination flame-resistant results.With the increase of Sb2O3 dosage,tear strength of vulcanized film increased,tensile strength droped.Thermal degradation process of latex modified by the chlorinated paraffin and Sb2O3 was two steps reaction,and the origination thermal degradation temperature was lower than that of natural latex,the glass transition temperature increased.

Abstract:Natural rubber (NR) grafted with 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA) and methacrylic acid (MAA, collectively NR-g-PEHA/MAA) was synthesized by emulsion polymerization. Tetraethylenepentamine and cumene hydroperoxide were used as redox initiators. The successful grafting of 2-EHA and MAA onto NR was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The morphology of the NR latex particles was observed by transmission electron microscopy. The effects of reaction temperature, initiator dosage, feeding mode, and hard monomer content on the mechanical properties of the modified NR film were investigated. Grafted polymer chains were unevenly wrapped on the outside of NR particles, and smaller particles were more easily grafted. Crosslinking was characterized using a toluene swelling method. Thermal stability and glass transition temperature were examined by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that the thermal stability of NR-g-PEHA/MAA had been improved, and the glass transition temperature (Tg) was unchanged.

Abstract:Natural rubber latex modified by trichlorobromomethane was prepared by the method of chemistry and added Sb2O3.An attempt was made to mechanical properties and flame-resistant properties of the modified latex vulcanizing film.TG and DTG thermal performance analysis was arranged.The results showed that the flame retardant properties of by trichlorobromomethane and Sb2O3 were better than with single trichlorobromomethane.With an increase the dosage of trichlorobromomethane,the flame-resistant properties of modified latex were increased,but mechanical properties of modified latex were decreased.The TG and DTG proved that the temperature of starting thermal degradation modified latex by trichlorobromomethane was advance,the process of thermal degradation modified latex was two-step reaction.

Abstract:In order to improve the mechanical properties and functionalities of natural cellulosic fibres, this paper first analyzed the characteristics of natural cellulosic fibres and the conventional modification methods of natural cellulosic fibres, and then focused on the polyelectrolytes modified natural cellulosic fibres. The main methods and process parameters of this modification were described in detail; the modification effects of polyelectrolytes on different types of fibres were systematically summarized; the influencing factors on modification of fibres were also discussed in depth; the characterization methods of polyelectrolytes modified fibres were analyzed in detail. Finally, the main application fields of polyelectrolytes modified fibres were systematically summarized.

Abstract:Acrylic polymer latex plays an important role in many industrial processes, such as the production of synthetic rubber, surface coatings, adhesives, additives in paper and textiles and many other products. Presently, the raw materials for preparing the acrylic polymer latex mainly originate from fossil resources. The progressive decline of fossil resources, together with the ongoing increases in oil prices, has initiated an increase in the search for alternatives, based on renewable resources for the production of acrylic polymer latex. In this paper, the application of renewable resources in preparing acrylic polymer latex is reviewed and summarized. The aim of the review is that provides the reference for application of the renewable resources in preparing the acrylic polymer latex.

Abstract:With the widening of the application fields of phenolic resins, many types of modifiers have been used to modify the molecular structure of phenolic resins. In recent years, more and more researchers have focused on the discussion of the properties of modified phenolic resins and gradually ignored the research on the synthesis processes that can affect the molecular structure and properties of phenolic resins. This review covers the synthesis processes used to prepare chemically modified phenolic resins and classifies and summarizes them. The types of modifiers, the timing in adding modifiers, and the advantages and disadvantages of different synthesis processes are considered. A possible synthesis process strategy for the preparation of different modified phenolic resins is provided, and this has a certain guiding significance for the research on high-performance phenolic resins.

Abstract:The traditional preparation process of natural rubber latex requires tedious treatment of a variety of rubber additives. In this paper, a new process of wet mixed grinding was used to prepare a reinforced vulcanization mixture and a rapid vulcanization effect. The effect of different amounts of vulcanization mixtures on the mechanical properties of natural latex film was studied, and the pre-vulcanization process of latex and the vulcanization process of film were optimized. The results showed that with the increase in the amount of vulcanization mixture, the tensile strength increased from 5.96 MPa to 29.28 MPa, and the tear strength increased from 7.59 kN/m to 52.81 kN/m. When the vulcanization temperature of the latex film is heated from 80 °C to 100 °C, the vulcanization time is shortened by 5~6 times. The new vulcanization mixture prepared in this work has the characteristics of simple production and fast vulcanization speed, which provides a new solution for the development of the latex product industry.
