Abstract:This paper describes the method of artificial doping Y-211 phase and melt-textured growth with a top-seeded technique to prepare the quasi-single crystal domain YBCO bulk materials with various Y-211 particle contents. The specimens lobtained have high density (more than 6.2 g/cm(3)) and good mechanical toughness. The J(c) of specimens reaches 1.23 x 10(6) A/cm(2) under 0.6T at 30 K and 1.35 x 10(4) A/cm(2) under 2 T at 70 K. The scanning electron microscope observation of specimens indicates that Y-211 particles can improve the quality of melt-textured YBCO superconductor and reduce the microcrack of specimens. Combining the microstructures with J(c) measurements shows that the smaller the particle size,the more homogeneous the particle distribution,the higher the pinning effectiveness. The best ratio of Y-123 to Y-211 for the superconductor specimens is 1:0.5 in moles,in which the Y-211 particles are uniformly distributed and their size is about 200 nm.

Abstract:YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) is a crucial aspect of research in the field of superconducting applications, where its high anisotropy is generally undesirable in strong power transmission. However, from a dialectical perspective, a thorough investigation of material anisotropy can offer an additional degree of freedom to tune potential properties and design innovative devices. This work employed pulsed laser deposition to fabricate a high-quality YBCO thin film (Tc = 89 K) and used the Mueller matrix spectroscopic ellipsometer (MMSE) to determine the complete dielectric tensor of the YBCO film across the ultraviolet to near-infrared spectrum (245-1000 nm), enabling a comprehensive, quantitative study of the optical anisotropy of YBCO. It provided optical constants and dielectric function spectra for different axes. We found that YBCO exhibits birefringence and dichroism both in-plane and out-of-plane. By combining standard critical point (SCP) analysis and first-principles calculations, we identified specific interband transitions related to SCP in the YBCO dielectric spectra, revealing the physical essence of anisotropic optical transitions from a quantum mechanical standpoint. Temperature-dependent studies of the transitions and optical constants were conducted. The work fills a partial void in the optical parameters of the anisotropy of YBCO and holds relevance for understanding the origins of copper-based hightemperature superconductivity.

Abstract:High temperature superconducting coated conductor (CC) could be practically applied in electric equipment due to its favorable mechanical properties and the critical current performance of YBCO superconducting layer. It is well known that CC could be easily delaminated because of its poor stress tolerance in thickness direction, i.e. along the c-axis of YBCO. Commonly, a stack including YBCO layer and silver stabilizer could be obtained after the delamination. It would be interesting to investigate the superconducting properties of the delaminated stack, since it could also be considered as a new type of CC with the silver stabilizer as the buffer layer, which is quite different from the oxide buffer layers in the traditional CC and might lead to new applications. In this study, a CC sample was delaminated by liquid nitrogen immersing. A Hall probe scanning system was employed to measure the critical current (IC) distribution of the original sample and the obtained stack. It was found that IC could be partially preserved after the delamination. Dense and crack-free morphologies of the delaminated surfaces were observed by scanning electron microscopy, and the potential application of the obtained stack in superconducting joint technology was discussed.

Abstract:Large, high quality YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) single crystals have been grown by a flux method and characterized by low field magnetization, a−b plane resistivity, microwave surface resistance and heat capacity measurements. The crystals obtained are nearly free standing after crystal growth and are easily harvested. They have dimensions of up to 5 mm along the a-(b-) axis and up to 1 mm along the c-axis. After oxidation, the crystals show a superconducting transition at Tc=93.2 K with transition width, ΔTc, of < 0.25 K as determined by low field magnetization, a−b plane resistivity and heat capacity data. The heat capacity jump ΔCp of the superconducting transition is 6.9 mJ/(gK).

Abstract:High T(c) superconducting YBCO films have been fabricated by in-situ pulsed laser ablation method. The substrates used were SrTiO3 (100) and were heated to 650-degrees-C during deposition. X-ray diffraction results indicate that the as-deposited films are highly oriented with c-axis perpendicular to the film surfaces. The critical currents were measured at 77.5K under different magnetic fields from 0 up to 7 T by using dc four point method. The zero resistance temperature was 89 K and the highest critical current density was 2.5 x 10(6) A/cm2 at 77.5K under zero field.
Study on the Superheating Phenomenon of YBCO Thin Film

Abstract:By using high temperature optical microscopy (HTOM), the superheating phenomenon in YBa2Cu3Oz (Y123) oxide thin film was found by in-situ observation of its melting process. The origin of superheating is discussed in combination with the analysis of XRD pole figure and the unwettability of Ba-Cu-O melts. Besides, the relationship between the microstructure of YBCO thin film and its superheating degree was investigated. The film with lower fraction of interface defects is believed to have higher superheating degree. The results deduced from semi-coherent interface energy theory are in good agreement with the experimental results of HTOM, AFM and XRD.

Abstract:In the fabrication of single-domain YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7− x (YBCO) bulk superconductors, NdBCO is commonly utilized as seed crystals to control the grain orientation in the seeding technique. However, it is extremely difficult to cleave large-size crystal seeds from NdBCO samples. In this paper, different size of GdBCO seed crystals has been successfully used to fabricate the single-domain YBCO bulk superconductors after tuning the RE + 011 top seeded and infiltration growth (TSIG) process. The surface morphology, levitation force, trapped field, and the microstructure of the final sample were investigated in detail. The results provide a strong experimental basis for fabricating pure c-axis single-domain YBCO bulks using larger-sized GdBCO seed crystals.

Abstract:Superconducting YBCO films are successfully prepared on single crystal LaAlO3 substrates by rf magnetron sputtering. The R-T curve, X-ray diffraction pattern and the critical current density of the film, as well as the dielectric constant and loss tangent of LaAlO3 measured at 36GHz, Show that YBCO/LaAlO3 is a better candidate for electronic applications than those films on other substrates.

Abstract:A plasma assisted MOCVD technique was developed to prepare Y-Ba-Cu-O superconducting thin films at low temperature, typically below 400°C. The preliminary result showed that the asdeposited or in situ plasma annealed films on a number of substrates exhibited orthorhombic structure, and of approximate YBa2Cu3O7-x composition under proper operating conditions. A resistance drop of 90% at 77 K with the onset above 110 K was obtained in a film deposited on glass substrate. The deposition behaviour and the influence of deposition parameters on the deposites were also examined.

Abstract:Numerical tools appear to be essential for modeling and designing devices based on superconducting materials. In this article different simulation results are presented, using a computer code based on the finite element method adopted for the resolution of the electromagnetic equations, in the case of an axisymmetric two-dimensional problem, with this code we study the variations of the different electromagnetic quantities. The second generation superconductor has been modeled as an interesting diamagnetic material as inductive pulse sources. The performance in magnetic field resistance, energy storage and thermal stability of the ribbon, known as YBCO, makes it possible to broaden its field of application. Two categories of machines have been proposed and analyzed, the first is classic and the second uses a superconducting ribbon. In addition, a comparative study between the two proposed models is carried out and the results are analyzed and discussed.

Abstract:Microstructure of high-quality YBa2Cu3O7-x superlattices has been investigated using high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). The observations revealed that the superlattices had atomic sharp interfaces between YBCO and PrBCO layers without interdiffusion. But undulations and steps of the layer thickness existed in the specimen. An intermediate layer about 1 nm in thickness with many defects, which was caused by the surface steps and dislocations at SrTiO3 substrate surface, was observed at the film-substrate interfaces. However, the films did not have large extended defects beyond several unit cells. The results suggested that when studying the two-dimensional transport properties and superconducting mechanism of YACO using YBCO/PrBCO superlattices or ultra-thin YBCO films, the influence of the microstructural elements must be taken into account.

Abstract:Iron-containing oxide inclusions have been incorporated as nanoscale ferromagnetic precipitate flux pinning centers within pulsed laser deposited YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) thin films via a simple process utilizing a composite deposition target. The resultant films exhibit a coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism at 77 K, and a consequent significant enhancement in their absolute critical current density, Jc, compared to pure YBCO films prepared under the same conditions. dasiaPoisoningpsila effects due to the incorporation of Fe into the YBCO matrix are avoided at sufficiently low concentrations of inclusions, where the greatest self-field Jc enhancement is seen, but do become increasingly evident as the concentration is increased. The process outlined has practical application in the synthesis of high-Jc YBCO films, with the absolute Jc values obtained in initial samples lying at the upper bound of reported values for samples produced worldwide to date.
The Phenomenon of the Superheating of Ybco Thin Film and Its Application in Processing Rebco Bulk

Abstract:During heating from room temperature to 1060 degrees C, a novel superheating phenomenon (up to over 45k) in YBa2Cu3Oz (YBCO or Y123) thin film was found. In order to clarify the origin of this superheating, the entire melting evolution of the film was observed in situ using a high temperature optical microscope. The semi-coherent interface between the YBCO film and the single-crystalline MgO substrate, as well as the unwettability of the Ba-Cu-O melt, was found to play a most significant role in causing the superheating. Furthermore, evident discrepancies in the degree of superheating and melting behaviours were observed between two YBCO thin films which have different microstructures, characterized by means of atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The mechanism of the melting discrepancy was discussed in detail. Finally, as an application of the superheating phenomenon, a large single-grain YBCO superconductor was grown by using a homoseed of YBCO thin film.

Abstract:The combined effect of the addition of different weight percentages of nano-BaTiO3/WO3 particles, synthesized through a solid-state reaction route in bulk YBCO superconductor was studied. The examination by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) showed that the samples crystallize into the orthorhombic structure. The orthorhombic distortion reduced with increasing the content of BTO and WO3 nanoparticles. The diminution of the orthorhombic distortion is followed by a significant alteration of critical transition temperature (Tco) at high addition level. The variation in crystallite size, electrical transport, magnetic field dependence of critical current density (Jc), and flux‐pinning force (Fp) of YBCO with various amounts of BTO, WO3 nanoparticles were studied in detail. The self‐field critical current density (Jc) increases to a maximum value of 0.32 × 104 A cm−2 for the 0.05 wt% co-addition of nano-BTO/WO3 particles. The factor boosting in this content was found to reach up to 45 when compared to the pure sample in the entire applied magnetic field. The enhancement of Jc values in the 0.05 wt% added sample was attributed to the presence of high-efficiency crystal defects that act as artificial pinning centers, formed due to the BTO/WO3 nanoparticles co-addition. Also, the pinning force density was enhanced by the co-addition of nano-BTO/WO3 particles in YBCO bulk superconductor and attained a maximum value of 1.5 MT.A.m−2 at 77 K for x = 0.05 wt%.

Abstract:Previously, we have reported a superheating phenomenon of a YBa2Cu3Ox (YBCO) film and studied its mechanism. In this work, we investigated the influence of microstructure on the superheating of a YBCO thin film. Different melting behaviors were observed in situ from YBCO thin films with varied microstructures by using high-temperature optical microscopy (HTOM). These films with different degrees of crystallinity were also characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). It was found that the crystalline structure features of the seed film have a great influence on the degree of superheating and the melting behavior. A high-quality film with a low fraction of interface defects is believed to be responsible for the high superheating. On the basis of the experimental results from HTOM, AFM, and XRD, the melting and superheating behaviors associated with the film defect structure are well interpreted in terms of the semi-coherent interface-energy theory.
Numerical analysis of electrical contact characteristics of high temperature superconducting bulk

Abstract:An axial symmetric model is constructed to study the electrical contact characteristic of YBCO bulks in this paper. The thermal field, the electrical field and the magnetic field are coupled with each other to simulate the contact phenomenon. Two groups of cases are calculated with the model. The first group cases are designed to investigate the forming reason of the contact resistance. Based on the analysis of the first group cases, we design the second group cases to simulate the contact characteristic. A new method is introduced with a heat flux injected into the contact surface. Some useful conclusions are drawn.

Abstract:Using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) three different growth processes of the epitaxial YBCO films are observed: (1) the epitaxial YBCO layers nucleate on perfect substrates and lead to flat surfaces. (2) one-unit cell steps on the substrate surfaces developed to dislocations of the grown YBCO film. (3) on tilted substrates stacks of terraces are the main surface morphologies. These results are clearly demonstrated that the substrates have significant influence on the microstructure of the epitaxial YBCO films.
