Abstract:Testing of ferromagnetic tube using pulsed remote field eddy current technique was researched.The finite element method was used to make detailed analysis of the effects on variations of the parameters of the detection system.Results showed that this technique combined advantages of remote field eddy current and pulsed excitation effectively,and that it could not only collect more detection information,including measurements of inner diameter of tubes,internal defects and external defects,but also had the strengths of high signal amplitude and lower power consumption.

Abstract:The suspension and levitation of superconductors by permanent magnets is a fascinating consequence of superconductivity, and a wonderful way to generate interest in low-temperature physics and electrodynamics. We present a classroom demonstration of the levitation/suspension of a superconductor over a magnetic track that maximizes the levitation/suspension time and the separation distance between the magnetic track and superconductor. The demonstration, as described, is both inexpensive and easy to construct.

Abstract:In view of the traditional remote field eddy current technique for ferromagnetic tube having the same sensitivity of inner and outside walls defect,unable to distinguish the defects in the inner wall or in the outer surface,this paper adopt with abundant frequency components of the pulse signal to replace the traditional remote field eddy current sinusoidal excitation signal.Using the methods of wavelet denoising to filter acquired signal and process the data.This paper studied the relationship between the tube wall defects and signal time-domain characteristics when the detector coil was placed in the direct zone,transition zone and remote field zone.Conduct experiments to acquire data about different depth defects in the inside or outside of the walls,the results show that using the pulse signal as excitation source and characteristics about the detect signal amplitude and zero-crossing time can effectively distinguish between the inner and outer circumferential direction tube wall defects.

Abstract:HTS diploe Magnet is an important part in Heavy-Ion Advanced Research Facility(HIAF).It can provide uniform and fast-cycled field for ion deflection.In this paper,a demonstration high temperature superconducting (HTS) dipole magnet was designed,built and assembled.This demonstration magnet was mainly constructed by racetrack coils installed with E -shape iron yokes.The magnetic flux density reached 1.0T when the operation current was 30A,as was predicted by the FE simulation.The DC test result shows the critical current of the coils,the center gap magnetic field on the operating current and the maximum operation current of the magnet.The AC test result shows that the equivalent field ramping rate of HTS magnet exceeds 18.2T/s.

Abstract:The safety operation of steel cable is vital and the cable should be maintained through regular inspection. Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) method is a popular inspection technique. For the online nondestructive testing (NDT), the eddy current arises in the steel cable due to the relative movement of the cable and the MFL system, which affects the defect field and causes the difficulty in the defect inspection. In this paper, for axial MFL system with permanent magnet excitation at different speeds, the distribution of eddy currents, magnetic flux lines and magnetic leakage field are investigated by numerical simulation. The results provide a deep insight into the design of the MFL system.

Abstract:Bilayered heterostructures of ferrites and BaTiO3, epitaxially grown on SrTiO3 single crystal substrate via pulsed laser deposition, showed an obvious magnetoelectric effect. Employing such simple bilayered thin films as a prototype magnetoelectric read head was demonstrated. The media field from the bits in a magnetic recording medium was modeled by an ac magnetic field. The output voltage waveforms of the bilayered thin films well followed the wave functions of the ac magnetic excitation signal, which illustrates utility of the bilayered heterostructures as magnetoelectric read head.

Abstract:The measuring principle of the magnetoelectric effect by dynamic method is described,and the corresponding measuring device is optimized to design and set up.The effect of some important parameters on the measuring results is investigated.It are shown that the choice of the suitable parameters is important for the measuring results and the actual reqiurement must be meeted during the design of the measuring device.It is advantageous for the improvement of the measuring precision and reduction of the measuring errors to enlarge the length of the coil,decrease the number of turns of the coil,and reduce the strength of the AC magnetic field.
Experimental Analysis of Eddy Current Effect Produced During Steel Tube Hi-speed MFL Testing

Abstract:The high-speed magnetic flux leakage detection system is set up by means of converting the steel pipe linear hi-speed scanning movement into a rotary hi-speed scanning movement. It is identified via analysis that eddy current effect is the root cause for drifting of the baseline. And why eddy current effect exists during the hi-speed MFL detection process is explained from a physical point of view. Also analyzed is the distribution characteristics of the eddy current effect. Relevant comparative analysis shows that 0～12 m/s scanning speed produces little impact on the test signal amplitude value. However,due to the fact that eddy current effect does exist,the baseline of the detection signal waveform is caused to be drifted,and the baseline drifting direction depends on the locations of the magneto sensors mounted in the magnetizer. The trouble of baseline drifting can be fixed by means of some software compensation and adjustment.

Abstract:Electrical energy is becoming more popular due to the fact that it is economic, practical, clean, and easy to control and convert energy compared to other forms of energy. Currently, however, most of the electrical energy is converted from or to mechanical energy based on the well-known Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, which states that a current will be induced in a closed conductive coil exposed to a changing magnetic field. For that purpose, either the magnetic field itself must be changing or the magnetic field must be moving relative to the closed conductive coil. While investigating the physical significance of magductance (or magnetic-inductance), we unearthed a new electromagnetic induction mechanism that the electrical current is induced in a closed conductive coil with the invariant magnetic field by changing the magnetic parameter of magductance of the closed coil. Time-varying magductance is achieved by changing the conductivity of the coil. To demonstrate the feasibility of the electromagnetic induction, both theoretical validation and experimental verification are undertaken. We built a closed superconducting coil and successfully measured the induced electrical currents in the cooling process of the closed superconducting coil under an invariant magnetic field, thus verifying the new law of electromagnetic induction.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel single‐disk vertical eddy‐current separator covered by alternating permanent magnets, offering advantages such as direct contact and minimal liquid and water use. The device, containing a single driving motor and few strong magnets, is small, simpler, and has been tested to separate non‐ferrous particles like aluminium and copper, revealing the effects of speed variation, particle size, and type on ejection distance. Eddy‐current technique has been used in several industrial applications, such as non‐destructive testing and characterization, transmission systems, and separation processes. The main advantage of other separation techniques for eddy current separation is the absence of direct contact and do not use other liquid and water. This paper presents a novel configuration for a single‐disk vertical eddy current separator, covered by alternating permanent magnets. Unlike several other works, which employ a horizontal orientation for magnetic disks. The advantage is that it contains one driving motor, few strong permanent magnets, and a small size and simpler construction than the usual eddy‐current separators. In this work, the analysis of an eddy current separator with magnetic single disk using a numerical model based on finite element method, the obtained partial differential equation is done into the numeric solver. The experimental device was realized to separate two kinds of non‐ferrous waste: aluminium and copper. The experiment results show the effect of speed variation, metals size, and kind of metal on ejection distance.

Numerical Simulation on the Influence of the Eddy-current Effect on the Magnetization of Steel Pipe at High Speed

Abstract:According to Lenz's Law, eddy current effect essentially occurs when relative movement happens between steel pipe and axial magnetizing coil in magnetic flux leakage(MFL) testing. The eddy current magnetic field and the magnetizing field magnetize the pipe together, eventually affecting consistency of the MFL signals. The aim is to analyze the affection on the pipe magnetization by eddy-current effect. Firstly, the eddy current distribution equation in the pipe is established based on the Lenz's Law, and moreover the eddy current magnetic field is obtained. Then, the eddy current magnetizing affections on the pipe head, pipe body and pipe tail are analyzed respectively. The direction of the eddy current in the pipe head is opposite to the one of the magnetizing current, which brings about the reduction of magnetization status. However, the eddy current in the pipe tail and the magnetizing current have the same direction, resulting in the increase of the magnetization. For the pipe body, the eddy current has no affection on the magnetization. The finite element simulation was applied to analyze the relationship between the eddy current intensity and the pipe moving speed and the affection of the eddy current on the magnetization of the whole pipe, which supplies the reference of the uniform evaluation for the steel pipe.

Abstract:Eddy current testing (ECT) is a non-destructive method widely employed for detecting cracks in various conductive materials. However, the applicability of detection probes in low-frequency settings is limited by their sensitivity and size. This study introduces a novel magnetic detection probe for ECT, utilizing dual-magnetoelectric (ME) composites in a differential noise cancellation mode to enhance detection capabilities at low frequencies (kHz). Our investigation demonstrates the superior performance of the proposed detection probe compared to traditional copper coils. Through numerical analysis of the ME detection probe's voltage output, we establish its efficacy in identifying small defects or cracks in conductive materials. Furthermore, this research explores a crucial factor for accurately estimating crack length and depth in system analysis applications. The study significantly contributes to the field of magnetism and magnetic materials, paving the way for the development of more effective and versatile crack detection techniques.

Abstract:Magnetic flux density distribution of electromagnetic field was measured. The influence of Ampere-turns and distance the roll rim enters the yoke on the height of liquid tin contained by the electromagnetic field have been investigated experimentally with an apparatus built by ourselves. The result shows that the height of containment increases linearly with increasing Ampere-turns and with the increase of the distance the roll rim enters the yoke, the height of containment of the tin liquid increases rapidly. The heat effect and fluctuation of liquid metal surface were analyzed too.

Abstract:Principle of rotating magnetic field is very difficult to understand to new learners because the field is in high speed and invisible. In this paper a novel dynamic demonstrating device for rotating magnetic field is designed. With the help of synchro transmitter and phase demodulating technologies, a rotating handle is adopted as speed input to drive the magnetic field rotating at a speed of only several revolutions per second, which enables the operators to observe the relation between synchronous speed of the rotating magnetic field and frequency of stator currents directly and clearly. The device can be used to demonstrate all kinds of powered states of three-phase AC windings, including open circuits of several windings, with or without a neutral line, rotating direction exchanging, and so on, which present the essence and key points of a rotating magnetic field. The device is a good assistant for teaching of some Electrical Engineering courses, such as Electric Machinery and Motors and their Drives.

Abstract:In this paper, some methods to measure discharging current, the magnetic induction intensity and are presented and discussed, by theoretical analysis and comparison, some conclusions are drawn. Measuring discharging current with current divider, and measuring magnetic induction intensity with magnetic test coil are feasible in practice. Deformation behavior of work-piece under electromagnetic force can be measured with sliding needles and high-speed camera, each method has advantages and disadvantages, according to the specific experimental situation, the more appropriate method should be chosen.
