Abstract:To satisfy the service-oriented architecture of software for structured object-oriented formal language(SOFL),a new service-oriented software requirement refinement method was proposed.After the architecture was modeled using hierarchical Petri net,message transmission was analyzed adopting sequence diagram,and informal and semi-formal system descriptions were refined using SOFL step by step.hierarchical Petri nets based web service was discussed,and the corresponding concepts of hierarchical service net and hierarchical web service were defined.The whole analysis,design and modeling process of web service software requirement using the proposed method was described,and an illustration of travel service for explaining this process was given.Results show that the method can fit web service architecture,and help users realize web service of various granularities.The method is quite useful for exploring software requirement refinement and review in service circumstance.

Abstract:Abstract In the iterative process of the update of the information service system, the continuous improvement of the system is restricted due to problems such as non-standard, incomplete, and strong ambiguity in the description of requirements. It makes it difficult to verify the consistency and integrity of requirements. In this paper, we focus on the huge requirements of complex information service system, and propose research on requirement itemized extraction and structured description technology based on natural language processing and requirement item keyword extraction and standardized expression technology. The library management system is used as the verification object to verify the effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper.

Abstract:Software requirement analysis is an essential step in software development process, which defines what is to be built in a project. Requirements are mostly written in text and will later evolve to fine-grained and actionable artifacts with details about system configurations, technology stacks, etc. Tracing the evolution of requirements enables stakeholders to determine the origin of each requirement and understand how well the software's design reflects to its requirements. Reckoning requirements traceability is not a trivial task, we focus on applying machine learning approach to classify traceability between various associated requirements. In particular, we investigate a 2-learner, ontology-based approach, where we train two classifiers to separately exploit two types of features, lexical features and features derived from a hand-built ontology. In comparison to a supervised baseline system that uses only lexical features, our approach yields a relative error reduction of 25.9%. Most interestingly, results do not deteriorate when the hand-built ontology is replaced with its automatically constructed counterpart.

Abstract:Refinement checking plays an important role in system verification. It establishes properties of an implementation by showing a refinement relationship between the implementation and a specification. Recently, it has been shown that anti-chain based approaches increase the efficiency of trace refinement checking significantly. In this work, we study the problem of adopting anti-chain for stable failures refinement checking, failures-divergence refinement checking and probabilistic refine checking (i.e., a probabilistic implementation against a non-probabilistic specification). We show that the first two problems can be significantly improved, because the state space of the product model may be reduced dramatically. Though applying anti-chain for probabilistic refinement checking is more complicated, we manage to show improvements in some cases. We have integrated these techniques into the PAT model checking framework. Experiments are conducted to demonstrate the efficiency of our approach.

Abstract:Software requirement traceability has been globally recognized as a key factor of affecting the success of software projects . The generated traceability links are vital to many software engineering and software verification and validation (V&V) activities such as change impact analysis , software reuse and consistency checking . Addressing most existing requirement traceability approaches based on information retrieval are strongly affected by the quality of the documentation of different types of software artifacts ,this paper presents a dynamic requirement traceability approach based on syntactic analysis .The proposed approach is able to extract terms which are most likely to characterize itself from text‐based software artifacts such as source code and requirement document , and then reduce the adverse effects of noise in artifacts to the requirement tracing process .In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach ,we have compared the quality of the trace links produced by several dynamic requirement traceability approaches on three open source software systems and six types of software artifacts . The result suggests that the dynamic requirement traceability approach based on syntactic analysis can effectively improve the accuracy of the produced trace links .

Abstract:Traceability recovery captures trace links among different software artifacts (e.g., requirements and code) when two artifacts cover the same part of system functionalities. These trace links provide important support for developers in software maintenance and evolution tasks. Information Retrieval (IR) is now the mainstream technique for semi-automatic approaches to recover candidate trace links based on textual similarities among artifacts. The performance of IR-based traceability recovery is evaluated by the ranking of relevant traces in the generated lists of candidate links. Unfortunately, this performance is greatly hindered by the vocabulary mismatch problem between different software artifacts. To address this issue, a growing body of enhancing strategies based on user feedback is proposed to adjust the calculated IR values of candidate links after the user verifies part of these links. However, the improvement brought by this kind of strategies requires a large amount of user feedback, which could be infeasible in practice. In this paper, we propose to improve IR-based traceability recovery by propagating a small amount of user feedback through the closeness analysis on call and data dependencies in the code. Specifically, our approach first iteratively asks users to verify a small set of candidate links. The collected frugal feedback is then composed with the quantified functional similarity for each code dependency (called closeness) and the generated IR values to improve the ranking of unverified links. An empirical evaluation based on nine real-world systems with three mainstream IR models shows that our approach can outperform five baseline approaches by using only a small amount of user feedback.

Abstract:Traceability links between requirements and source code can assist in software maintenance tasks. There are some automatic traceability recovery methods. Most of them are similarity-based methods recovering links by comparing representation similarity between requirements and code. They cannot work well if there are some links independent of the representation similarity. Herein to cover weakness of them and improve the accuracy of recovery, we propose a method that extends the similarity-based method using two techniques: a log-based traceability recovery method using the configuration management log and a link recommendation from user feedback. These techniques are independent of the representation similarity between requirements and code. As a result of applying our method to a large enterprise system, we successfully improved both recall and precision by more than a 20 percent point in comparison with singly applying the similarity-based method (recall: 60.2% to 80.4%, precision: 41.1% to 64.8%).

Abstract:Software Traceability has been a matter of discussion in the Software Engineering community for a long time. The process of keeping and recover traces among software artifacts in any system represents a fundamental aspect to properly perform software maintenance tasks and requirements compliance verification. Furthermore, there exist application contexts where this becomes a mandatory process, for instance, banking and healthcare. Software traceability has dedicated efforts in proposing alternatives to recover lost traceability links in a coarse-grained and middle-grained detail by so far, however, proposed techniques are not enough to meet the desired levels of granularity in critical contexts. In this work we propose a fine-grained traceability algorithm designed to recover traces between high level requirements written in human natural language and source code statements where they are implemented. We tested our approach in four open-source healthcare systems to trace constraints requirements specified by the HIPAA law, and we evaluated the results as presented is this paper.

Abstract:Requirement analysis is a critical but difficult part of software development. With the combination of various requirement analysis methods and practice, a method which carries out requirement analysis through nine steps is proposed. The establishment of three models, business model, preliminary data model and functional model, is the focus of the establishment of a target system. Such method has been applied in the development of a library information system and practice showed that such method is systematic, comprehensive and practical, shortening the distance between requirement analysis theory and practice.

Abstract:Requirement change occurs during the entire software lifecycle, which is not only inevitable but also necessary. However, uncontrolled requirement change will lead to a huge waste of time and effort. Most studies about the change impact analysis assume changes take place in code, which results in the analysis only at the source code level and ignoring the requirement change is the fundamental cause. This paper introduces a Requirement Centric Traceability (RCT) approach to analyze the change impact at the requirement level. The RCT combines with the requirement interdependency graph and dynamic requirement traceability to identify the potential impact of requirement change on the entire system in late phase. This approach has been successfully applied to a real-life project, and the benefits and lessons learned will also be discussed.

Abstract:During iterative, UML-based software development, various UML diagrams, modeling the same system at different levels of abstraction are developed. These models must remain consistent when changes are performed. In this context, we refine the notion of impact analysis and distinguish horizontal impact analysis–that focuses on changes and impacts at one level of abstraction–from vertical impact analysis–that focuses on changes at one level of abstraction and their impacts on another level. Vertical impact analysis requires that some traceability links be established between model elements at the two levels of abstraction. We propose a traceability analysis approach for UML 2.0 class diagrams which is based on a careful formalization of changes to those models, refinements which are composed of those changes, and traceability links corresponding to refinements. We show how actual refinements and corresponding traceability links are formalized using the OCL. Tool support and a case study are also described.
Requirements Traceability: Recovering and Visualizing Traceability Links Between Requirements and Source Code of Object-oriented Software Systems

Abstract:Requirements traceability is an important activity to reach an effective requirements management method in the requirements engineering. Requirement-to-Code Traceability Links (RtC-TLs) shape the relations between requirement and source code artifacts. RtC-TLs can assist engineers to know which parts of software code implement a specific requirement. In addition, these links can assist engineers to keep a correct mental model of software, and decreasing the risk of code quality degradation when requirements change with time mainly in large sized and complex software. However, manually recovering and preserving of these TLs puts an additional burden on engineers and is error-prone, tedious, and costly task. This paper introduces YamenTrace, an automatic approach and implementation to recover and visualize RtC-TLs in Object-Oriented software based on Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) and Formal Concept Analysis (FCA). The originality of YamenTrace is that it exploits all code identifier names, comments, and relations in TLs recovery process. YamenTrace uses LSI to find textual similarity across software code and requirements. While FCA employs to cluster similar code and requirements together. Furthermore, YamenTrace gives a visualization of recovered TLs. To validate YamenTrace, it applied on three case studies. The findings of this evaluation prove the importance and performance of YamenTrace proposal as most of RtC-TLs were correctly recovered and visualized.

Major threads of work include: (1) study the common body of knowledge on requirements modelling, and integrate i* with other requirements languages, such as problem frames, UCM and UML; (2) work on a service capability and requirements modelling ontology – SRMO, based on goal and agent-oriented concepts from i*; (3) build a double feedback loop control framework (ASREF) to achieve optimal service demand supply relationship based on service models. Then, we present a methodology of requirement information cell for general requirement representation under the domain of mass customization. Based on the definitions of domain ontology, normalization and reusability of requirement information are enhanced. Abstract:Requirement quality serves as the basis of the whole software development. How to improve and assure the quality of requirements is one of the most difficult issues. Aiming to improve requirement review in a software company, we propose a role-based requirement review process based on the idea that requirement quality should meet needs of all roles involved to the largest extent, and not only determined by the number of defects found in requirements. This process helps reviewers focus on their own concerns and find more defects related to their tasks, and provides a quantitative method to analyze and evaluate the quality of the requirement document. We also provide a case study to illustrate the new process and report some preliminary results.

Abstract:Relevance Feedback has been studied in information retrieval research for the past 30 years.It has been shown to be worthwhile in a wide variety of settings,either the actual user feedback is availableor it is implicit.Since the applications of relevance feedback and the type of user input to relevance feedback have changed in the Web environment,the relevance feedback is again emphasized by researchers.A document relevance based search result re-ranking approach is proposed in this paper,which makes use of both the relevant documents and irrelevant documents in feedback information.The approach is shown to be consistently valid for performance improvement on the standard large scale test dataset of TREC 2008 Relevance Feedback Track.
