Abstract:On the perspective of individual, "Selfish" and "Moral" are both characteristics within human nature; On another perspective of society, in older to maintain the extending of cooperative order, it is important to construct the moral baserof the society which should be accordant with the market. However, Chinese traditional society is absences of the social moral. The theory of "social moral" which was raised by David Hume on particular moment plays an extremely important role in our current development of market economy. Universal moral rule is the precondition of economics theory. Furthermore, the valuation rule of economy theory also rejects the immoral economy behavior. So the proposition "market economy is immoral" cannot be tenable.

Abstract:School moral education in any country is carried out in a particular social and cultural context. The renewal of policy and practice in moral education in China has come about because of a rapidly changing Chinese society, as a result of the government's ‘reform and opening up’ policy since the end of the 1970s. The consequent changes in the Chinese economy, politics and culture are innovatory and challenging. It is these changes that have brought about, and will continue to bring about, new ideas and practices in moral education. This paper describes how Chinese moral education has been influenced according to recent social changes and modernization in China, including the formation of the market economy, the impact of globalization, mass media and the Internet, cultural diversity and value pluralism, trends to democratization in politics, and structural changes in the family. It also considers the kind of social issues and challenges which are being dealt with and anticipated in policy, theory and practice in contemporary Chinese moral education.

A Critique of Pan-Moralization:Putting Morality in Its Right Place

Abstract:In contemporary China,with the social transformation accelerated,the interpersonal relations have been greatly expanded. In particular,the gradual popularization of the Internet and the rapid development in the Internet technology and self-media has brought about tremendous changes in the content and form of interpersonal interactions. Accordingly,the openness,interactivity and heterogeneity of people's social life have been greatly enhanced and there is an explosion of the influence of virtual society formed in the cyberspace on the public sphere. The area which is the first to have surely felt the impact of these changes is morality. It is a common and basic desire for the people in a community to live a moral life so that moral judgments form an important force promoting the social development. Moral criticism is usually the prelude to other criticisms and at the same time becomes the driving force for the pursuit of a purified moral life. However,if the moral judgment goes to the extreme of pan-moralization,many issues outside the sphere of morality will be moralized and the abuse of morality will be inevitable. Therefore,the key to the construction of morality in the new era is to first define the boundaries of morality,i.e. to make an explicit definition of the sphere for people's moral practice. To achieve this purpose,it is necessary to stick to the scientific Marxist concept of moral criticism, make moral criticism scientific and based on the facts,enable the moral criticism to fully play its guiding role, and seek the establishment of the common interest mechanism in a society characterized by different interests and pursuits so as to lay a solid foundation for the reestablishment of moral order.

Abstract:Wang chuan-shan regarded the whole society as his own duty. He emphasized that scholars should have the social responsibility for the fate of their country. Pragmatism, understanding the law according to the change were the main spirit of Huxiang culture. The duty spirit of Huxiang culture not only played an active role on promoting good and resisting evil, inspired Huxiang children work hard for the state and people, but also enlightened the contemporary scholars’ hardworking spirit and assume the historical task of revitalizing China.

Abstract:Mounting studies have suggested that messages featuring morality and emotion are more likely to go viral on social media platforms. Our study investigated three controversial events intensely discussed on Weibo (the Chinese equivalent of Twitter), with a focus on the linkage between morality/emotion and social media in a non-Western cultural context. We found (1) more moral content than non-moral content in the online discussion across the three events, (2) no delay of hourly aggregated moral/emotional content between individual posts and media posts, and (3) posts with stronger but heterogeneous emotions attract more retweets, comments, and likes, while homogenous moral foundations in a post can gain more comments and likes but not retweets.

Abstract:It is a main traditional character that moralization is realized through creating a deep etiquette culture,and it is due to a close relation between the morality education and social culture in Chinese history. The etiquette culture has been accumulated from ritual activities for a long time. Rituals are the operation and show of etiquette spirit, and the spiritual core of etiquette presents the interpersonal relations and social order. From this clue, we can find a deep close connection between the embryo and development of culture and moralization, and the ritual activities play a role of an intermediary's link in them. So it needs to pay attention to dasigning ritual activities for improving school moral education.

Abstract:Moral education is always closely associated with politics in China, and the term ‘moral education’ is often interchangeable with such other terms as ideological and political education. Officially, moral education is seen as an important tool in upholding the socialist nature of the school and society. This paper examines the changing political and ideological orientations in China, and their implications for policy change in moral education since 1978. The paper reports on a case study on The new three character classic movement in Guangdong province, a focal point of opening up. This demonstrates some changes in the orientations of the moral education curriculum, including the growing concern about individual well‐being and the moral quality of citizens that would fit with a society that is fast changing under the reform and opening‐up policy, and being integrated into the world. It is argued that there is a clear reorientation for moral education to be disassociated from politics, and replaced by an emphasis on personal moral quality, as well as individual well‐being, such as psychological health.

Abstract:A moral crisis can be personal, collective, or national. It is the perception of a critical accumulation of attitudinal changes that disrupt preexisting ethical norms and behavior. Most public perceptions of a moral crisis are not shared by all the people in a society, and the contents of moral crises also shift over time due to ongoing changes in social conditions and subjective perspectives. The differences, tensions, and conflicts underpinning recurrent public discourses over morality constitute the politics of moral crisis. This article first sketches the social conditions and moral premises in the 1970s that set the stage for radical changes in attitudinal perspectives in the post-Mao era, examines in particular the value shift toward a more individualistic morality in the 1980s, and contends that the Chinese understanding of Western individualism as a doctrine of egotism helped plant the seeds of public perceptions of moral crisis. The final section unpacks five perceived types of moral crises and points out the politics in each, highlighting the centrally important role of the Party-state in shaping China's moral landscape. An examination of these moral crises provides a unique angle to understand the complexity of social transformation and political constraints in post-Mao China.

Abstract:Taking as an example Xi Jinping's use of the phrase “excellent traditional culture” ([Formula: see text], youxiu chuantong wenhua), this article looks at the construction of a centrally sanctioned narrative of traditional Chinese culture in resources produced within the Party school system. The specific focus of analysis is on how these resources theorise the functionality of traditional culture for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as a political organisation, and what culture-based solutions they put forward to tackle the problems with Party theory and ideology, the state governance model, and cadre performance. It is argued that by referencing traditional culture, and, in particular, by drawing on traditional moral virtues, the CCP realigns itself with societal expectations without making concessions over the ideological foundations of the party state.

Abstract:This paper tries to investigate the nature of the spirit of Chinese culture and the possibility to renew Chinese culture in contemporary era. Contrary to the popular trend to simply imitate or learn form the Western, the author insists on the following positive positions for the Chinese culture. Firstly, the spirit of the Chinese culture is the “the spirit with sensitive life”. Secondly, the subjectivity of “common value of exchange” cannot be formed in the spirit of Chinese culture. Thirdly, the task of “enlightenment” can only be realized by Chinese themselves with its own characteristics. Fourthly, the essence of the possibility to revive Chinese culture lies in the constitution of “sensitive truth”. Lastly, “returning originality and open new world” will be the destination Chinese culture seeks from now on. Therefore, the basic topic for the revival of Chinese culture is to turn the power of capital into social right and obligation of the basis of sensitive individual moral.
