Abstract:A series of silica-pillared layered titanoniobate supported copper catalysts (Cu/Si-TiNbO5) were prepared for the direct decomposition of NO. It was found that Cu/Si-TiNbO5 catalysts were highly active for the reaction of NO (0.1vol.% in He) decomposition in the space velocity range of 3000–30,000cm3g−1h−1. The 3.5wt.% Cu/Si-TiNbO5 catalyst showed the highest conversion into N2 for NO decomposition. While 2.0wt.% Cu/Si-TiNbO5 had the highest specific activity at low temperature (≤550°C) and 1.0wt.% Cu/Si-TiNbO5 showed the highest specific activity at high temperature (>550°C). XRD and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) results indicated that there existed well-dispersed copper oxide species and large copper oxide particles in the catalysts. Well-dispersed copper oxide species were reduced more easily than large copper oxide particles by H2. X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) and Auger electron spectra (AES) results revealed that Cu+ species existed in Cu/Si-TiNbO5 catalysts and that the copper oxide species in Cu/Si-TiNbO5 catalysts after used for NO decomposition were different from those before the reaction. Well-dispersed copper oxide species were active for NO decomposition and the most active sites might be the dimeric copper oxide species over the support.
A Novel Catalyst for NO Reduction by CO

Abstract:A silica-pillared layered niobate (Si-Nb 3 O 8 ) has been prepared by intercalating layered niobate with NH 2 (CH 2 ) 3 Si(OEt) 3 . The results of XRD and BET measurement showed that the obtained product was a porous material with a high specific surface area and high thermal stability, and its layered structure remained unchanged after treatment with 5 vol% water vapor at 500 °C for 3 h. Using Si-Nb 3 O 8 as support, a 2 wt% Cu/Si-Nb 3 O 8 catalyst was prepared by impregnation of Cu(NO 3 ) 2 solution and the catalytic reduction of NO by CO was examined. The results showed that the catalyst had a good activity and selectivity, and the pretreatment of 5 vol% water vapor could obviously improve the conversion of NO reduction, while the selectivity of NO to N 2 almost kept unchanged.

Abstract:A large specific surface area perovskite-type mixed oxide PbTiO3 supported cupric oxide was synthesized as a catalyst for NO decomposition and characterized by techniques such as XPS, XRD, H-2-TPR before and after NO decomposition reactions. The catalytic properties were tested with a fix-bed micro-reactor. The results showed that the PbTiO3 was inactive for the reactions, but 1 wt % Cu/PbTiO3 catalyst gave fairly good activities for NO decomposition at temperature as low as 473 K. Copper species were found well-dispersed but weakly interacted with the support before NO decomposition, and the NO decomposition caused significant change in the environment of the copper species, which became Cu(I) and most probably incorporated into surface crystal lattice of the nano-sized PbTiO3. In NO reaction, a large amount of oxygen atoms from the decomposition of NO penetrated into the nano-sized PbTiO3 support and caused small expansion of crystal lattice. The transport of oxygen between the copper species and the catalyst support may be helpful to speed up the kinetic regeneration of active metal sites from oxygen occupancy and resulted in good catalytic performance.
DIRECT DECOMPOSITION OF NITRIC OXIDE UPON CATALYST DERIVED FROM CALCINED Co-Al HYDROTALCITE-LIKE COMPOUND

Abstract:Direct catalytic decomposition of NO over complex oxide of cobalt and aluminum derived from calcined Co-Al hydrotalcite-like compound is studied. It is found that the decomposition activity of such catalysts in reduction state is 100% (tested by micro-pulse reaction method at 450°C), while that of CuZSM-5 catalyst is 45% in the same condition . XRD and TPR characterization results show that there is a large quantity of CoAlO 2 spinel in the Co-Al complex oxide phase. When CoAlO 2 is reduced, it may produce highly dispersed metallic Co, this may be the reason why this kind of catalyst possesses high activity for direct decomposition of NO. In addition, the stability of catalyst is improved prominently by adding small amount (<1%) of Pt or Ag to the catalyst. It is suggested that oxygen, the product of NO decomposition, is adsorbed firstly on Pt or Ag, so that the adsorption of oxygen on Co surface which may cause the deactivation of catalyst is prevented.

Abstract:Introduction The removal of NOx (deNOx) has been one of the most important tasks for environment protection. Nitrogen monoxide is theoretically unstable relative to N2 and O2 at low temperatures [1], however, its decomposition reaction is hard to reach equilibrium without catalyst. The catalytic decomposition is the simplest method for NO removal from exhaust streams. A variety of catalysts, such as noble metals [2], mixed metal oxides [3], and metal ion-exchanged molecular sieves [4] have been explored intensively. Some of these materials are active in their reduced state, but oxygen contained in the feed gas or released by the decomposition of NO competes with NO for the adsorption sites and poisons the activity. Accordingly, the quick removal of the surface oxygen to regenerate the catalytic activity is required. Perovskite-type mixed oxides of base metals, with a well-defined structure and high thermal stability, have been demonstrated as active catalysts for the cleaning of NO in exhaust gases, however, the related documented research works are mainly focused on the implementation of active elements into the structure of perovskite-type oxides, in these cases, the stable structure of the complex oxides might limit the valence fluctuation of the active metal ions resulting in disadvantage to their activity for NO reaction.

Abstract:Manganese-based catalysts supported on TiO2 were studied for the oxidation of NO to NO2 in excess oxygen to remove NO from flue gas. Catalysts were prepared by incipient impregnation, excessive dipping and ultrasonic improved impregnation. The effects of precursor, manganese loadings, preparation method of catalysts and calcination temperature of catalysts on NO oxidation were investigated in details. Mn/TiO2-10% catalysts made from Mn(NO3)2 and prepared by excessive dipping had the highest NO oxidation. More than 60% NO conversion was obtained at 200degC under the condition of 500 ppm NO, 3% O2 and the balance N2, GHSV=19,200 h-1.

Abstract:The catalytic activity of three different types of Cu2+-exchanged zeolites (Cu-ZSM-5, Cu-Y, Cu-M) for the NO direct decomposition, especially the effects of the preparation and reaction conditions on the catalytic activity have been studied. The results show that the catalyst Cu-ZSM-5 (IV) bears high catalytic activity, good stability and strong ability of oxygen-resistance in the reaction systems of NO-He and NO-O2-He, while the Cu-Y and Cu-M zeolites lose their activity after reaction for 2 h under the same reaction conditions. It is also found that the activity of the catalyst IV decreases quickly when the space speed increases and the O2 concentration in feed gas is over 10%. The further way of this research is suggested.
In situ formation of cocatalytic sites boosts single-atom catalysts for nitrogen oxide reduction

Abstract:Nitrogen oxide (NOx) pollution presents a severe threat to the environment and human health. Catalytic reduction of NOx with H2 using single-atom catalysts poses considerable potential in the remediation of air pollution; however, the unfavorable process of H2 dissociation limits its practical application. Herein, we report that the in situ formation of PtTi cocatalytic sites (which are stabilized by Pt-Ti bonds) over Pt1/TiO2 significantly increases NOx conversion by reducing the energy barrier of H2 activation. We demonstrate that two H atoms of H2 molecule are absorbed by adjacent Pt atoms in Pt-O and Pt-Ti, respectively, which can promote the cleave of H-H bonds. Besides, PtTi sites facilitate the adsorption of NO molecules and further lower the activation barrier of the whole de-NOx reaction. Extending the concept to Pt1/Nb2O5 and Pd1/TiO2 systems also sees enhanced catalytic activities, demonstrating that engineering the cocatalytic sites can be a general strategy for the design of high-efficiency catalysts that can benefit environmental sustainability.

Abstract:Tricomponent cerium–tungsten–titanium catalysts have the potential for selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH3, while the accurate modulating of the surface structure and the understanding of the atomic-level mechanism remain extremely challenging. To resolve the conundrum, here, we investigate the modular ternary catalysts through advanced spectroscopic and computational studies. It reveals that the introduction of graphene oxide induces a high dispersion of W and Ce species, resulting in the generation of amorphous W–O–Ce- and Ce–O–Ti-bonding structures on the surface. More importantly, the high dispersion of CeO2 facilitates the formation of abundant oxygen vacancies, which are mobile active sites for adsorption and activation of NO and NH3. Temperature-programmed desorption of NO (NO-TPD) and temperature-programmed desorption of NH3 (NH3-TPD) validate the feasibility of adsorption of NO and NH3 at low temperatures. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy of the transient reaction indicates that both NO2 and monodentate nitrate are active intermediates, which can react with the adsorbed NH3 to generate N2 and H2O during catalysis. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), in situ Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) provide direct evidence for the presence of Ce, W, and Ti interactions. Theoretical simulations prove that the inherent interactions reliably accelerate the conversion efficiency of NO x to N2 by improving the electron transfer on the surface. Furthermore, the Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanism is thermodynamically more feasible and predominant over the graphene oxide-triggered catalyst.

Abstract:A 2 wt% copper catalyst supported on silica-pillared layered niobate (Cu/Si–Nb3O8) with a high hydrothermal stability was prepared and tested for the NO+CO reaction. Pretreatment with water vapor could improve the activity of the catalyst greatly, while the selectivity to N2 almost kept unchanged. The addition of water vapor (2 vol%) into the reaction gas could increase the activities of the catalyst without pretreatment and those pretreated by 2 vol% and 5 vol% stream, but reduce the activity of the catalyst pretreated by up to 10 vol% water vapor. Generally, water vapor in the reaction gas slightly reduced the selectivity to N2.

Plasma-catalytic High-Efficiency Oxidation of NO over Co-Mn/Ti Catalysts Using Surface Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma

Abstract:A surface dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor was applied for the oxidation of NO over a series of Co-Mn/Ti catalysts. Compared with the DBD process, the combination of DBD with the Co-Mn/Ti catalysts showed excellent oxidation performance. Approximately 91.3% of the NO was obtained when the 0.1 Co-Mn/Ti catalyst was placed downstream the discharge reactor at 45.2 W. A minimum NO concentration was found with a change in the reaction temperature. H2O significantly inhibited the NO oxidation, but NO oxidation efficiency could recover to the initial level after removing H2O. SO2 not only restrained the NO oxidation, but resulted in the irreversible deactivation as well. The interaction of Co and Mn in a certain proportion on the catalyst leaded to the formation of more surface oxygen species, which favored the deep oxidation of existing NO to N2O5. The reaction pathways and mechanism were studied for the oxidation of NO in this paper.
Mesoporous Co3O4 Nanoparticles with Enriched Oxygen Defects for Efficient NO Oxidation

Abstract:Catalytic conversion of NO to NO2 stands as a pivotal step governing NO x purification technology, with its effectiveness relying heavily on the utilization of high-performance catalysts. Herein, we harness a facile ligand-assisted self-assembly strategy to fabricate mesoporous Co3O4 with abundant oxygen vacancies (M-Co3O4), aiming at improving the activity of NO oxidation. For comparison, Co3O4 nanoflakes (F-Co3O4) and bulk Co3O4 (B-Co3O4) were synthesized from a hydrothermal method and direct calcination of cobalt nitrate, respectively. Activity results reveal that M-Co3O4 can oxidize 88% of NO at 275 degrees C under a GHSV of 180,000 h(-1), surpassing both F-Co3O4 (70% at 325 degrees C) and B-Co3O4 (66% at 325 degrees C). Extensive characterizations indicate that the exceptional activities of M-Co3O4 are predominantly attributed to the synergistic effects of its surface Co2+ species, weak Co-O bond strength, and high mobility of surface lattice oxygen. This work lays the groundwork for the advancement of high-performance Co3O4-based catalysts for atmospheric contaminants remediation.
Direct Conversion of No Over Cu-Loaded 8mr of High Silica Lta Zeolite

Abstract:NO is a principal air pollutant that has received attention for its harmful impact on the environment and human health. Direct catalytic conversion of NO to N2O/N2 is therefore a process that carries promising potential with further development of metal exchanged zeolitic catalysts. While many reports have cited Cu-loaded high silica to aluminium ratio (SAR) LTA zeolites to be effective deNOx catalysts with their high catalytic activity and hydrothermal stability, the detailed mechanisms by which it acts are still poorly understood. In this study, multiple reaction pathways were discussed to elucidate a feasible reaction pathway that allows NO to be directly converted to N2O over the loaded-Cu in the eight-member ring (8MR) of the high silica LTA. In addition, as the oxidation intermediate Cu-O hindered the desired NO conversion, multiple gaseous components (NO, CO, N2) that frequently existed in the catalytic process were considered for residual O (Ores) removal.
MnOx/TiO2 Composite Nanoxides Synthesized by Deposition-Precipitation Method As a Superior Catalyst for NO Oxidation

Abstract:A series of MnOx/TiO2 composite nanoxides were prepared by deposition-precipitation (DP) method, and the sample with the Mn/Ti ratio of 0.3 showed a superior activity for NO catalytic oxidation to NO2. The maximum NO conversion over MnOx(0.3)/TiO2(DP) could reach 89% at 250°C with a GHSV of 25,000h−1, which was much higher than that over the catalyst prepared by conventional wet-impregnation (WI) method (69% at 330°C). Characterization results including XRD, HRTEM, FTIR, XPS, H2-TPR, NO-TPD and Nitrogen adsorption–desorption implied that the higher activity of MnOx(0.3)/TiO2(DP) could be attributed to the enrichment of well-dispersed MnOx on the surface and the abundance of Mn3+ species. Furthermore, DRIFT investigations and long-time running test indicated that NO2 came from the decomposition of adsorbed nitrogen-containing species.

Abstract:A series of Fe-Ni mixed oxide catalysts were synthesized through a sol-gel method for NO reduction by CO. Compared to monometallic catalysts prepared using the same method, Fe-Ni mixed oxide catalysts revealed a tremendous enhancement in catalytic performance. The effects of Fe/Ni molar ratio and calcination temperature on catalytic activity were examined. The physicochemical properties of catalysts were characterized by XRD, Raman, N2 adsorption-desorption, H2-TPR, NO-TPD and XPS. The results indicated that the reduction behavior, surface oxygen species and surface chemical valence states of Fe and Ni in catalysts are the key factors for NO elimination. The Fe0.5Ni0.5Ox sample calcined at 250 °C exhibited an excellent catalytic activity of 100% NO conversion at 130 °C and lifetime more than 40 h. A possible mechanism for NO reduction by CO over Fe-Ni mixed oxide catalysts was proposed based on the XPS and in-situ DRIFTS analyses.

Abstract:Nitric oxide (NO) oxidation is an integral part of the nitrogen chemical cycle, but competitive activation of NO/O2 over single platinum (Pt)-based catalysts result in inadequate low temperature performance. Here, we constructed catalysts with BiMn2O5/CeO2 and Pt/BiMn2O5 defective interfaces (sufficient activation of NO/O2). The constructed catalyst achieved 95 % NO conversion at 260 °C in NO/O2 atmosphere, superior to most known catalysts. Even after aging (800 °C for 16 h), the NO conversion was up to 76 %. Further, the catalyst can be applied to actual diesel exhaust. Detailed oxygen vacancies (Ov) characterization reveals that BiMn2O5/CeO2 defective interface created by Ce3+-Ov + Mn4+-O ↔ Ce4+-O + Mn3+-Ov promote the activation of NO (on Mn3+ sites) and O2 (on Mn3+-Ov sites). Besides, the Ov on Pt/BiMn2O5 defective interface compensate for the loss of Pt sites ensuring hydrothermal stability. And this construction of multiple defective interfaces develops a pathway for boosting catalytic reactions.
Design of meso-TiO2@MnOx-CeOx/CNTs with a core-shell structure as DeNOx catalysts: Promotion of activity, stability and SO2-tolerance

Abstract:Developing low-temperature deNO(x) catalysts with high catalytic activity, SO2-tolerance and stability is highly desirable but remains challenging. Herein, by coating the mesoporous TiO2 layers on carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-supported MNOx and CeOx nanoparticles (NPs), we obtained a core-shell structural deNO(x) catalyst with high catalytic activity, good SO2-tolerance and enhanced stability. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, N-2 sorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, H-2 temperature-programmed reduction and NH3 temperature-programmed desorption have been used to elucidate the structure and surface properties of the obtained catalysts. Both the specific surface area and chemisorbed oxygen species are enhanced by the coating of meso-TiO2 sheaths. The meso-TiO2 sheaths not only enhance the acid strength but also raise acid amounts. Moreover, there is a strong interaction among the manganese oxide, cerium oxide and meso-TiO2 sheaths. Based on these favorable properties, the meso-TiO2 coated catalyst exhibits a higher activity and more extensive operating-temperature window, compared to the uncoated catalyst. In addition, the meso-TiO2 sheaths can serve as an effective barrier to prevent the aggregation of metal oxide NPs during stability testing. As a result, the meso-TiO2 overcoated catalyst exhibits a much better stability than the uncoated one. More importantly, the meso-TiO2 sheaths can not only prevent the generation of ammonium sulfate species from blocking the active sites but also inhibit the formation of manganese sulfate, resulting in a higher SO2-tolerance. These results indicate that the design of a core-shell structure is effective to promote the performance of deNO(x) catalysts.
