Abstract:In this paper, by modifying the arguments in \cite{WY}, we get some rigidity theorems on compact manifolds with nonempty boundary. The results in this paper are similar with those in \cite{ST} and \cite{WY}. Like \cite{ST} and \cite{WY}, we still use quasi-spherical metrics introduced by \cite{Ba} to get monotonicity of some quantities.

Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with constant k-curvature or constant quotient curvature. We prove that such manifolds must have constant sectional curvature under the assumption that the manifolds have positive sectional curvature. The same result is also held on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

Abstract:We consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric by a fully nonlinear flow on a compact manifold with totally geodesic boundary. We prove that the k-curvature defined by the modified Schouten tensor always can be deformed in a natural way to a constant at exponential rate and the boundary preserves totally geodesic.

Abstract:We study the problem of finding complete conformal metrics determined by some symmetric function of the modified Schouten tensor on compact manifolds with boundary; which reduces to a Dirichlet problem. We prove the existence of the solution under some suitable conditions. In particular, we prove that every smooth compact n-dimensional manifold with boundary, with n >= 3, admits a complete Riemannian metric g whose Ricci curvature Ric(g) and scalar curvature R-g satisfydet(Ric(g) - R(g)g) = const.This result generalizes Aviles and McOwen's in the scalar curvature case.

Abstract:A classic result of Shi and Tam states that a 2-sphere of positive Gauss and mean curvature bounding a compact 3-manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature, must have total mean curvature not greater than that of the isometric embedding into Euclidean 3-space, with equality only for domains in this reference manifold. We generalize this result to 2-tori of Guass curvature greater than $-1$, which bound a compact 3-manifold having scalar curvature not less than $-6$ and at least one other boundary component satisfying a 'trapping condition'. The conclusion is that the total weighted mean curvature is not greater than that of an isometric embedding into the Kottler manifold, with equality only for domains in this space. Examples are given to show that the assumption of a secondary boundary component cannot be removed. The result gives a positive mass theorem for the static Brown-York mass of tori, in analogy to the Shi-Tam positivity of the standard Brown-York mass, and represents the first such quasi-local mass positivity result for non-spherical surfaces. Furthermore, we prove a Penrose-type inequality in this setting.

Abstract:In this paper, using the idea of Bartnik [B2] on quasi-spherical metrics we continue our study on the boundary behaviors of compact manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature and nonempty boundary. Unlike the previous work [ST] of the authors and the work of Liu-Yau [LY], we only assume each boundary component has nonnegative curvature which is not identically zero. We also study the case that the boundary is embedded in the quotient of the infinity of the Euclidean space over a finite group. The regularity of the black hole boundary condition of quasi-spherical metrics is also discussed.

In this paper, some recent developments and new results on curvatures and fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds are summarized briefly. The contents contain the growth of fundamental groups, the entropy of manifolds and fundamental groups, the first Betti number and the finiteness of fundamental groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the boundary behaviors of compact manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature and nonempty boundary. Using a general version of Positive Mass Theorem of Schoen-Yau and Witten, we prove the following theorem: For any compact manifold with boundary and nonnegative scalar curvature, if it is spin and its boundary can be isometrically embedded into Euclidean space as a strictly convex hypersurface, then the. integral of mean curvature of the boundary of the manifold, cannot be greater than the integral of mean curvature of the embedded image as a hypersurface in Euclidean space. Moreover, equality holds if and only if the manifold is isometric with a domain in the Euclidean space. Conversely, under the assumption that the theorem is true, then one can prove the ADM mass of an asymptotically flat manifold is nonnegative, which is part of the Positive Mass Theorem.
Scalar-mean rigidity theorem for compact manifolds with boundary

Abstract:We prove a scalar-mean rigidity theorem for compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary in dimension less than five by extending Schoen-Yau dimension reduction argument. As a corollary, we prove the sharp spherical radius rigidity theorem and best NNSC fill-in in terms of the mean curvature. Additionally, we prove a (Lipschitz) Listing type scalar-mean comparison rigidity theorem for these dimensions. Our results remove the spin assumption.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain some rigidity theorems on compact manifolds with nonempty boundary. The results may be related to the positivity of some quasi-local mass of Brown–York type. The main argument is to use monotonicity of quantities similar to the Brown–York quasi-local mass in a foliation of quasi-spherical metrics. Together with a hyperbolic version of positivity of a mass quantity, we obtain our main results.

Abstract:On a compact manifold with boundary, the map consisting of the scalar curvature in the interior and the mean curvature on the boundary is a local surjection at generic metrics. Moreover, this result may be localized to compact subdomains in an arbitrary Riemannian manifold with boundary. The non-generic case (also called non-generic domains) corresponds to static manifolds with boundary. We discuss their geometric properties, which also work as the necessary conditions of non-generic metrics. In space forms and the Schwarzschild manifold, we classify simple non-generic domains (with only one boundary component) and show their connection with rigidity theorems and the Schwarzschild photon sphere.

Abstract:In the article we introduce new conformal and smooth invariants on compact, oriented four-manifolds with boundary. In the first part, we show that "positivity" conditions on these invariants will impose topological restrictions on underlying manifolds with boundary, which generalizes the results on closed four-manifolds by M. Gursky and on conformally compact Einstein four-manifolds by S.-Y. A. Chang, J. Qing, and P. Yang. In the second part, we study Weyl functional on four-manifolds with boundary and establish several conformally invariant rigidity theorems. As applications, we prove some rigidity theorems for conformally compact Einstein four-manifolds. These results generalize the work on closed four-manifolds by S.-Y. A. Chang, J. Qing, and P. Yang and rigidity theorem for conformally compact Einstein four-manifolds by G. Li, J. Qing, and Y. Shi. A crucial idea of the proofs is to understand the expansion of a smooth Riemannian metric near the boundary. It is noteworthy to point out that we rule out some examples arising from the study of closed manifolds in the setting of manifolds with umbilic boundary.

Abstract:Based on the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index formula, we construct an obstruction to positive scalar curvature metrics with mean convex boundaries on spin manifolds of infinite K-area. We also characterize the extremal case. Next we show a general deformation principle for boundary conditions of metrics with lower scalar curvature bounds. This implies that the relaxation of boundary conditions often induces weak homotopy equivalences of spaces of such metrics. This can be used to refine the smoothing of codimension-one singularites a la Miao and the deformation of boundary conditions a la Brendle-Marques-Neves, among others. Finally, we construct compact manifolds for which the spaces of positive scalar curvature metrics with mean convex boundaries have nontrivial higher homotopy groups.

Abstract:On a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, we study how Ricci curvature of the interior affects the geometry of the boundary. First, we establish integral inequalities for functions defined solely on the boundary and apply them to obtain geometric inequalities involving the total mean curvature. Then, we discuss related rigidity questions and prove Ricci curvature rigidity results for manifolds with boundary.

In particular, we prove a rigidity results on comparison of scalar curvature and scaled mean curvature on the boundary for any convex domain in Euclidean space, which is a parallel of Shi-Tam's results.

Abstract:We study the set of curvature functions which a given compact manifold with boundary can possess. First, we prove that the sign demanded by the Gauss-Bonnet Theorem is a necessary and sufficient condition for a given function to be the geodesic curvature or the Gaussian curvature of some conformally equivalent metric. Our approach allows us to solve problems that are impossible to solve in the pointwise conformal case. Moreover, we obtain a deep and more delicate information on pointwise conformal deformations. We prove new existence and nonexistence results for metrics with prescribed curvature in the conformal setting, which depend on the Euler characteristic.
