Abstract:We study the problem of finding complete conformal metrics determined by some symmetric function of the modified Schouten tensor on compact manifolds with boundary; which reduces to a Dirichlet problem. We prove the existence of the solution under some suitable conditions. In particular, we prove that every smooth compact n-dimensional manifold with boundary, with n >= 3, admits a complete Riemannian metric g whose Ricci curvature Ric(g) and scalar curvature R-g satisfydet(Ric(g) - R(g)g) = const.This result generalizes Aviles and McOwen's in the scalar curvature case.

Abstract:By simplifying the first and the second variation formulas of the energy functional and generalizing the Weitzenbock formula, we study the stability and the rigidity of harmonic maps between Finsler manifolds. It is proved that any nondegenerate harmonic map from a compact Einstein Riemannian manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature to a Berwald manifold with nonpositive flag curvature is totally geodesic and there is no nondegenerate stable harmonic map from a Riemannian unit sphere S-n (n > 2) to any Finsler manifold.

Abstract:Certain general conditions are put forth on a complete simply-connected Riemannian manifold of nonpositive curvature which guarantee that they support nontrivial bounded harmonic functions. This result includes the Cartan–Hadamard manifolds with curvature pinched between two negative constants and the bounded symmetric domains ${{\mathfrak{R}}_I(n,n)}$ and ${{\mathfrak{R}}_{II}(n)}$ (n ≥ 2) as special cases.

A precise conjecture is formulated. We discuss its implications and present some partial results. Related questions are discussed for compact Riemannian manifolds with positive Ricci curvature and convex boundary.

Abstract:On a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, we study how Ricci curvature of the interior affects the geometry of the boundary. First, we establish integral inequalities for functions defined solely on the boundary and apply them to obtain geometric inequalities involving the total mean curvature. Then, we discuss related rigidity questions and prove Ricci curvature rigidity results for manifolds with boundary.

Boundary exceptional sets for radial limits of superharmonic functions on non-positively curved Harmonic manifolds of purely exponential volume growth

Abstract:By classical Fatou type theorems in various setups, it is well-known that positive harmonic functions have non-tangential limit at almost every point on the boundary. In this paper, in the setting of non-positively curved Harmonic manifolds of purely exponential volume growth, we are interested in the size of the exceptional sets of points on the boundary at infinity, where a suitable function blows up faster than a prescribed growth rate, along radial geodesic rays. For Poisson integrals of complex measures, we obtain a sharp bound on the Hausdorff dimension of the exceptional sets, in terms of the mean curvature of horospheres and the parameter of the growth rate. In the case of the Green potentials, we obtain similar upper bounds and also construct Green potentials that blow up faster than a prescribed rate on lower Hausdorff dimensional realizable sets. So we get a gap in the corresponding Hausdorff dimensions due to the assumption of variable pinched non-positive sectional curvature. We also obtain a Riesz decomposition theorem for subharmonic functions. Combining the above results we get our main result concerning Hausdorff dimensions of the exceptional sets of positive superharmonic functions.

Abstract:A well studied classical problem is the harmonicity of functions satisfying the restricted mean-value property (RMVP) for domains in $\mathbb{R}^n$. Recently, the author along with Biswas investigated the problem in the general setting of Riemannian manifolds and obtained results in terms of unrestricted boundary limits of the function on a full measure subset of the boundary. However in the context of classical Fatou-Littlewood type theorems for the boundary behavior of harmonic functions, a genuine query is to replace the condition on unrestricted boundary limits with the more natural notion of non-tangential boundary limits. The aim of this article is to answer this question in the local setup for pre-compact domains with smooth boundary in Riemannian manifolds and in the global setup for non-positively curved Harmonic manifolds of purely exponential volume growth. This extends a classical result of Fenton for the unit disk in $\mathbb{R}^2$.

Abstract:In this paper, by modifying the arguments in \cite{WY}, we get some rigidity theorems on compact manifolds with nonempty boundary. The results in this paper are similar with those in \cite{ST} and \cite{WY}. Like \cite{ST} and \cite{WY}, we still use quasi-spherical metrics introduced by \cite{Ba} to get monotonicity of some quantities.
Boundary behavior of limit-interfaces for the Allen-Cahn equation on Riemannian manifolds with Neumann boundary condition

Abstract:We study the boundary behavior of any limit-interface arising from a sequence of general critical points of the Allen-Cahn energy functionals on a smooth bounded domain. Given any such sequence with uniform energy bounds, we prove that the limit-interface is a free boundary varifold which is integer rectifiable up to the boundary. This extends earlier work of Hutchinson and Tonegawa on the interior regularity of such limit-interface. A key novelty in our result is that no convexity assumption of the boundary is required and it is valid even when the limit-interface clusters near the boundary. Moreover, our arguments are local and thus works in the Riemannian setting. This work provides the first step towards the regularity theory for the Allen-Cahn min-max theory for free boundary minimal hypersurfaces, which was developed in the Almgren-Pitts setting by the first-named author and Zhou.

Abstract:It is a classical theorem that if a function on the unit circle is integrable, then it is the nontangential limit of a holomorphic function on the open disc (subject to a certain growth condition) if and only if its Fourier coefficients for nonnegative integers are zero. In this article we generalize this result to higher complex dimensions by proving that for an integrable function on the unit sphere, it is a "boundary trace" of a holomorphic function on the open unit ball if and only if two particular families of integral equations are satisfied. To do this, we use the theory of Hardy spaces as well as the invariant Poisson and Cauchy integrals.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop the geometry of the limit spaces of compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary, where we assume lower bounds on the sectional curvatures of manifolds and boundaries and the second fundamental forms of boundaries and an upper diameter bound. We mainly focus on the general case of non inradius collapse/convergence, where inradii of manifolds are uniformly bounded away from <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://zero.In" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> this case, many limit spaces have wild geometry, which arise from the boundary behavior of manifolds. We determine the infinitesimal and the local structures around the boundary singular points of the limit spaces.We also present some global convergence/collapsing results.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the Dirichlet problem at infinity of proper harmonic maps from noncompact complex hyperbolic space $\mathbf{CH^m}$ to a rank one symmetric space N of noncompact type with singular boundary data $f: \mathbf{S^{2m-1}}\longrightarrow \partial_\infty N$. Abstract:A classic result of Shi and Tam states that a 2-sphere of positive Gauss and mean curvature bounding a compact 3-manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature, must have total mean curvature not greater than that of the isometric embedding into Euclidean 3-space, with equality only for domains in this reference manifold. We generalize this result to 2-tori of Guass curvature greater than $-1$, which bound a compact 3-manifold having scalar curvature not less than $-6$ and at least one other boundary component satisfying a 'trapping condition'. The conclusion is that the total weighted mean curvature is not greater than that of an isometric embedding into the Kottler manifold, with equality only for domains in this space. Examples are given to show that the assumption of a secondary boundary component cannot be removed. The result gives a positive mass theorem for the static Brown-York mass of tori, in analogy to the Shi-Tam positivity of the standard Brown-York mass, and represents the first such quasi-local mass positivity result for non-spherical surfaces. Furthermore, we prove a Penrose-type inequality in this setting.

Abstract:We study the set of curvature functions which a given compact manifold with boundary can possess. First, we prove that the sign demanded by the Gauss-Bonnet Theorem is a necessary and sufficient condition for a given function to be the geodesic curvature or the Gaussian curvature of some conformally equivalent metric. Our approach allows us to solve problems that are impossible to solve in the pointwise conformal case. Moreover, we obtain a deep and more delicate information on pointwise conformal deformations. We prove new existence and nonexistence results for metrics with prescribed curvature in the conformal setting, which depend on the Euler characteristic.

Abstract:Based on the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index formula, we construct an obstruction to positive scalar curvature metrics with mean convex boundaries on spin manifolds of infinite K-area. We also characterize the extremal case. Next we show a general deformation principle for boundary conditions of metrics with lower scalar curvature bounds. This implies that the relaxation of boundary conditions often induces weak homotopy equivalences of spaces of such metrics. This can be used to refine the smoothing of codimension-one singularites a la Miao and the deformation of boundary conditions a la Brendle-Marques-Neves, among others. Finally, we construct compact manifolds for which the spaces of positive scalar curvature metrics with mean convex boundaries have nontrivial higher homotopy groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove some splitting results for manifolds supporting a non-constant infinity harmonic function which has at most linear growth on one side. Manifolds with non-negative Ricci or sectional curvature are considered. In dimension 2, we extend Savin's theorem on Lipschitz infinity harmonic functions in the plane to every surface with non-negative sectional curvature.
