Abstract:Further phytochemical investigation on the root barks of Artocarpus petelotii Gagnep afforded two new prenylated 2-arylbenzofurans, artopetelins L and M (1 and 2), as well as a known compound, lakoochin B (3). Their structures were identified by spectroscopic methods. Artopetelins B-E (5-8), four 2-arylbenzofurans previously isolated from this plant, and lakoochin B (3) were potent against HepG2 (IC50 = 14.4-44.4 mu M) and MCF-7 (IC50 29.7-59.1 mu M).

Abstract:Two new isoprenylated 2-arylbenzofurans, artonitidin A (=(2'R)-2',3'-dihydro-2'-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)-5',7-bis(3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl)-2,4'-bi-1-benzofuran-6,6'-diol; 1) and artonitidin B (=5-[6-hyd roxy-7-(3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl)-1-benzofuran-2-yl] -4-(3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl)benzene-1,3-diol; 2), together with 14 known compounds, 3-16, were isolated from the stems of Artocarpus nitidus TREC. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Norartocarpin (3), cudraflavone C (5), brosimone I (8), artotonkin (11), albanin A (13), and artopetelin M (14) showed inhibitory effects on pancreatic lipase with IC50 values ranging from 1.8 +/- 0.1 to 63.8 +/- 3.6 mu M.

Abstract:A new mixture of epimeric isomers furanosesquiterpenes (1 and 1a), together with two known furanosesquiterpenes were isolated from Xanthopappus subacaulis, which was used as Tibetan medicine in China. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data including UV, IR, MS and NMR. The biosynthetic pathway of furanosesquiterpenes is proposed and the chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds is also discussed.

Abstract:Thirteen compounds were isolated from Artocarpus heterophyllus, including one new di-isoprenylated stilbene, (+/-)-artoheterin A (1), and twelve known isoprenylated phenolics, artocarbene (2), 3',5',2,4-tetrahydroxy-4'-(3-methyl-2-butenyl) stilbene (3), cudrastilbene (4), 3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl) luteolin (5), 5,7,2',4'-tetrahydroxy-6-(3-methyl-2-butenyl) flavone (6), 6-(3-methyl-2-butenyl) apigenin (7), artochamin B (8), 5'-hydroxycudraflavone A (9), artonins A and B (10-11), heterophyllin (12), and 8-(3-methyl-2-buteny1)-6,7-dihydroxycoumarin (13). The structures of these compounds were identified by spectroscopic methods. All isolated compounds were screened for their inhibitory abilities against cathepsin K (CatK). Of them, compounds 1-4 and 8-13 were found to have suppression capabilities against CatK with IC50 values ranging from 1.9 to 73.7 mu M.

Abstract:From the fruits of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. a new beta-dihydroagarofuran sesquiterpene ester named 1beta,2beta,13-triacetoxy-9alpha-cinnamoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (1) has been isolated along with two known compounds, 6alpha-acetoxy-1beta, 9beta-dibenzoyloxy-8beta-hydroxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (2), and 1beta, 6alpha-diacetoxy-9beta-benzoyloxy-8beta-hydroxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran ( 3). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data.

Abstract:Two new stilbenes with two lsoprenold groups, namely artostilbenes A (compound 1) and B (compound 2), were isolated from the stems of Artocarpus chama Buch.-Ham. by repeated column chromatography. Their structures were elucidated as (E)-4-[2-(7-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-6-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)-2H-1-benzopyran-5-yl)vinyl]benzene-1, 2-diol (compound 1) and (Z)-4-[2-(7-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-6-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)-2H-1-benzopyran-5-yl)vinyl]benzene-1,2-diol (compound 2) by spectroscopic methods, mainly by 1D-, 2D-NMR and MS spectra. Compounds 1 and 2 are two cis- and trans-isomers and compound 2 is the first cis-stilbene isolated from Moraceous plants.

Abstract:In continuation of our research on the isolation of bioactive compounds from Annonaceae species, we focus our attention on Artabotrys petelotii species since the ethyl acetate extract from the leaves of this plant showed growth inhibition of 60% KB cancer cell line at the concentration of 10 μg/mL in the preliminary screening. To the best of our knowledge, only one research on the essential oil of the leaves of A. petelotii has been reported [<a href="#CR1">1</a>], and this is the first report on the phytochemical investigation of this plant, which led to the isolation and characterization of 24-methylenelanosta-7,9(11)-dien-3β-ol (1), betulinic acid (2), β-sitosterol (3), daucosterol (4), vitexin (5), mangiferin (6), kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside (7), and quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (8). Abstract:Two new prenylated stilbenes, artochamins F (1) and G (2), and their four novel derivatives, artochamins H-K (3-6), were isolated from the stems of Artocarpus chama. Abstract:The phytochemical investigation of the root bark of Pseudolarix kaempferi yielded eight eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoids, including three new ones, 1α-hydroxyl-4(14)-en-β-dihydroagarafuran (1), 1α, 2α-diacetoxy-8β-isobutanoyloxy-9α-benzoyl oxy-15-β-(β-furancarbonyloxy)-4β, 6β-dihydroxy-β-dihydroagarofuran (7), and 1α-acetoxy-2 α-furancarbonyloxy-8β-isobutanoyloxy-9α-benzoyloxy-15β-(β-acetoxy)-4β, 6β-dihydroxy-β-dihydroagarofuran (8). Herein the new compounds 7 and 8 were reported as a mixture. The molecular structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including UV, IR, NMR, and MS, and comparison with the literature data.

Abstract:OBJECTIVETo study the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of Petasites tricholobus and its phenolic components.METHODPhenolic compounds were separated purified by column chromatographic methods such as macroporous resin D-101, silica gel, ODS, MCI GEL CHP 20P, Sephadex LH-20. Their structures were identified on the basis of physicochemical property and multiple spectral data.RESULTNineteen phenolic compounds were separated from 95% ethanol extracts from P. tricholobus Franch. and identified as sulfonated benzyl glucoside (1), 3-(4beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy-3, 5-dimethoxy) -phenyl-2E-propenol (2), dihydrosyringin (3), tangshenosides II (4), 4-hydroxy-2,6-dimethoxyphenol-1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (5), 4-hydroxymethyl-2, 6-dimethoxyphenyl-1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (6), arbutin (7), rutin (8), kaempferol-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (9), quercetin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (10), kaempferol-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (11), afzelin (12), petasiphenol (13), caffeic acid (14), chlorogenic acid (15), 2-hydroxy-5-acetylbenzoic acid (16), p-hydroxy-benzoic acid (17), protocatechuic aldehyde (18) , and p-hydroxy-phenylpropionic acid (19).CONCLUSIONAbove result shows that phenolic compounds contained in P. tricholobus mainly include simple phenols, phenolic glycosides, coffee acid and flavonoid glycosides. Among them, compound 1 was separated from the composite family for the first time; compounds 2-7, 9, 11, 12, 16, 19 were separated from the genus Petasites for the first time, and the others were separated from the plant for the first time. These compounds have been proved to have pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammation, antibiosis, antioxidantion.

Abstract:Phytochemical study on the stems and leaves of Artocarpus tonkinensis led to the isolation of a new 2-arylbenzofuran, artocartone ( 1 ), as well as seven known 2-arylbenzofurans ( 2–8 ). The chemical structure of 1 was established by means of comprehensive spectroscopic analyses and the known compounds were determined by comparing their MS and NMR data with those reported data in literature. The antiproliferative activities of all isolates 1–8 against five human cancer cell lines: HL-60, SMMC-7721, A-375, MCF-7 and SW480 in vitro were evaluated. As a result, compounds 1– 8 displayed notable antiproliferative activities against various human cancer cell lines with IC 50 values in the range of 0.28 ± 0.05–26.89 ± 0.18 μM.

Abstract:Five new isoprenylated flavones, artochamins A-E (1-5), together with eight known flavones (6-13), were isolated from the roots of Artocarpus chama. All structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Artonin E (12) showed strong cytotoxicity against 1A9 (ovarian), significant activity against MCF-7 (breast adenocarcinoma), and moderate activity against HCT-8 (ileocecal) and MDA-MB-231 (breast adenocarcinoma) tumor cell lines. Artochamin C (3) was more potent against MCF-7, 1A9, HCT-8, and SK-MEL-2 (melanoma) than A549 (lung carcinoma), KB (epidermoid carcinoma of the nasopharynx), and its drug-resistant (KB-VIN) variant. Artocarpin (6) displayed weak but relatively broad inhibitory effects compared with 3 and 12.

Abstract:The total syntheses of norartocarpin and artocarpin, two biologically interesting natural flavonoids with two regioisomeric isoprenyl side chains, were achieved for the first time via a linear reaction sequence of 9 and 12 steps with the overall yields of 14% and 3.5%, respectively, starting from commercially available 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene.

Abstract:Chemical constituents were isolated and purified from ethyl acetate fraction of Arctium lappa leaves by silica gel, ODS, MCI, and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. Their structures were identified with multiple spectroscopical methods including NMR, MS, IR, UV, and X-ray diffraction combined with literature data. Twenty compounds(1-20) were identified and their structures were determined as arctanol(1), citroside A(2), melitensin 15-O-β-D-glucoside(3), 11β,13-dihydroonopordopicrin(4), 11β,13-dihydrosalonitenolide(5), 8α-hydroxy-β-eudesmol(6), syringin(7), dihydrosyringin(8), 3,4,3',4'-tetrahydroxy-δ-truxinate(9),(+)-pinoresinol(10), phillygenin(11), syringaresinol(12), kaeperferol(13), quercetin(14), luteolin(15), hyperin(16), 4,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid(17), 1H-indole-3-carboxaldehyde(18), benzyl-β-D-glucopyranoside(19), and N-(2'-phenylethyl) isobutyramide(20). Among them, compound 1 is a new norsesquiterpenoid, and compounds 2-5, 7-8, and 18-20 are isolated from this plant for the first time.
