Abstract:High-performance distributed computing often requires careful selection and configuration of computers, networks, application protocols, and algorithms. In grid environment, the participators of domains provide site information by default that may be not adequate for resources manager to achieve optimal performance. In this paper, an Extensible Information Service Architecture (EISA) is described to resolve this problem. EISA supports a virtual organization participator's autonomous control of local resources. It consists of three layers, the registration and deployment layer, normalization and organization layer, and information collection layer. Dynamic information services in EISA could be deployed and extended easily. EISA improves the extensibility of grid information services and the efficiency of resources utilization.

Abstract:Service-oriented computing, cloud computing, and web services composition mark cornerstones of a paradigm shift in software systems engineering. The general new idea is to use as much as possible services that are made available by others, mostly disseminated via the web. In this paper, we present an abstract model for clouds as federations of services together with a specification of semantics and quality characteristics. For the services as such we adopt the abstract model of abstract state services, which is based on views on some hidden database layer that are equipped with service operations. For the semantics we adopt types for in- and output, pre- and post-conditions, and a description of functionality within an operations ontology. In addition, quality characteristics capture performance, costs, availability, etc. On the basis of this model of clouds, users may conduct a (web) search for usable services, extract service components, and recompose these components. The quality characteristics can be used to optimise the selection of usable services.

Abstract:With loosely coupled Web services, service-oriented applications and processes could be composite and dynamic and change service providers based on the criteria such as price, reliability, security, credit, or the elements' weighted utilities. A precise service search engine is critical for the loosely coupled applications to select emerging Web services regularly, automatically, across the Internet. Based on a developed collaborative platform for service-oriented software engineering, this paper reports an improvement to the platform by adding an ontology-based semantic service search engine, to implement automatic service discovery. The discovery service uses a matrix of description elements for search precision, uses semantic dictionary for intelligence and self-learning, and uses meta-search techniques to improve search scope. The service search engine utilizes search capability of multiple search engines and Web services registration services.

Abstract:The ability to match user's goals with service offers is the key to service discovery. In this paper we present an ontology-based architecture for service discovery. In our architecture, ontologies are used to give machine-understandable descriptions, and there is a central discovery platform acting as a mediator for requesters and providers. Service offers are described by abstract services, general services and concrete services. The description of concrete services can be generated timely by component-level Web services. By exploiting the semantic descriptions of the service offers, the discovery platform is able to discover the required service, which can be single or composed of multiple services.

Abstract:E-services are business functions made available via the Internet by service providers, and accessible by clients that could be human users or software applications. The main benefit of the e-services environment is that clients are able to dynamically discover the available e-service that best meets their needs, to examine its properties and capabilities, and to determine if and how to access it. However, in order to deliver e-services to clients, service providers are faced with several challenges. In particular, they need to describe e-services in a way that is accessible and understandable by the clients and to advertise them in web directories, so that they can be discovered by brokers as well as by end-users. In this tutorial we discuss the main requirements for models and languages for service description and discovery, and we present relevant approaches proposed by standardization consortia.

Abstract:For advanced web search engines to be able not only to search for semantically related information dispersed over different web pages, but also for semantic services providing certain functionalities, discovering semantic services is the key issue. Addressing four problems of current solution, this book presents the following contributions. A novel service model independent of semantic service description models is proposed, which clearly defines all elements necessary for service discovery and selection. It takes service selection as its gist and improves efficiency. Corresponding selection algorithms and their implementation as components of the extended Semantically Enabled Service-oriented Architecture in the Web Service Modeling Environment are detailed. Many applications of semantic web services, e.g. discovery, composition and mediation, can benefit from a general approach for building application ontologies. With application ontologies thus built, services are discovered in the same way as with single domain ontologies, and the mediation problem between service ontologies is solved. Further, an ontology-based approach to improve service discovery is proposed and validated. Within the service model, a service selection approach oriented at quality criteria is proposed. It normalises diverse qualities of a service in their respective metrics and employs a service selection algorithm based on soundness.

Abstract:Although discovery of semantic web services has widely been investigated, the problems to represent the users’ informal needs as formal goals and of goal-based service discovery are not addressed sufficiently well, yet. Therefore, an ontology-dependent, two-phase, and goal-based approach to discover semantic web services is proposed. It addresses the formalisation of a user’s needs into formal goals by asking questions. Further, it uses a goal template to discover a set of candidate web services and, then, specifies a goal instance to discover the final web service.

Abstract:Modern scientific research is generating daunting amount of data that is commonly required to be combined together to service daily research endeavors. This paper introduces an ontology-based approach to publishing and composing data intensive web service. The approach distinguishes itself by its capability of dynamically evolving service interface and a data service composition graph (DSCG for short) planner for service composition, enabled by richly describing service capability using the semantic web languages. The advantage of the proposed approach is that the data service(DS for short) can adapt itself with client request dynamically, greatly improving its query service capability. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is scalable, and provides a better performance on handling time.
A Framework of Web Services Description and Discovery Based on OWL-S and Domain Ontology

Abstract:At present, massive Web Services are available on the Internet; discovery of relevant and required ones among these Web Services becomes a significant challenge. Because of deficiency of semantics, traditional discovery approaches are inefficient and have lower precision rate. In such a case, this paper presents a framework of Web Services description and discovery using OWL-S and domain ontology by which semantic information is extracted to help convert WSDLs into service profile files describing how service works semantically; then mappings from profiles to UDDI are built to reconstructed data structures of UDDI for supporting semantic services discovery. Meanwhile, a query template is provided to formulate the format of service requirement; after formatted, alluser queries will be submitted to discovery engine and query engine to complete the semantic discovery process. As results, the most suited services can be discovered and returned to users. The experiment shows this framework is effective and useful in services discovery.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel approach for Web Services discovery on the envisioned Semantic Web. At first it proposes ontology based four-layer Web Services description model which is helpful for data-independence and concept-sharing. And then a users' services preferences and constrains model upon the description is described. SBWSDF ("Semantic Based Web Services Discovery Framework") is a framework to implement Web Services discovery using these models. Using the prototype of this framework, we set up a services ontology base and a rules base about flight booking. This prototype integrates the services description, the preferences and constrains rules and the request information to select proper services by using an inference engine. The result proves it's a new approach of Web Services discovery with intelligence.

Abstract:Currently a large number of web services as well as other kinds of services such as EJBs,COM,and even Java Classes are made available to the general public.Facilitating the SOA based system development by leveraging such kinds of services becomes a challenge.A framework for service repository,ontology based service discovery and service composition is put forward.The service repository can maintain the web services,EJBs,and Java Classes with the functions such as service registration,publishing,discovery, matching,versioning,and monitoring.The details of service description are analyzed.A domain ontology for Procurement,Selling,and Inventory is also given.Based on the domain ontology and the service repository, the semantic enhanced service composition algorithm is discussed.

Abstract:In order to improve the user oriented service delivery, we present a soft service robot, e-SBOT. It plays the "bridge" role between a user and massive external services. By sensing explicit and implicit intentions and demands of a user, it helps find appropriate services and construct coarse-grained service solutions. Both global and personal knowledge graph are utilized to for intention reasoning and service solution planning. Sensors are designed for the dynamic changes of external services and resources. By e-SBOT, the cognition of a user could be amplified to a large extent. This paper gives a brief introduction to e-SBOT's technical challenges, architecture design, and key theoretical problems.

Abstract:Current web services standards lack the support of formal semantic descriptions of a service's nonfunctional characters, i.e. its Quality Of Service. When a large number of functionally-equivalent services have been discovered, it is difficult for users to choose which one to be invoked. Thus, QoS becomes a very critical factor in selecting among these candidates services to best meet users needs. In this paper, we design and build a general QoS ontology to support web services nonfunctional features. This ontology can solve the interoperability of QoS description. We also give a semantic web services discovery framework based on QoS ontology. The framework supports the automatic discovery of web services and it can improve the efficiency for users to find the best services.

Abstract:To discover services efficiently has been regarded as one of important issues in the area of Service Oriented Computing (SOC). This article carries out a survey on the issue and points out the problems for the current semantic-based service discovery approaches. After that, an information model for registered services is proposed. Based on the model, it brings forward a two-phase semantic-based service discovery method which supports both the operation matchmaking and operation-composition matchmaking. Th authors import the bipartite graph matching to improve the efficiency of matchmaking. An implementation of the proposed method is presented. A series of experiments show that the method gains better performance on both discovery recall rate and precision than a traditional matchmaker and it also scales well with the number of services being accessed.
