A Recollection of Nature——On the Ground of Ecological Aesthetics

Abstract:A common theoretical concern in contemporary aesthetics, environmental aesthetics was bred in response to destruction of natural environment in the course in industrialization driven by rational centralism and human centralism as the two basic conceptions. A recall of “nature”——a key factor in this theoretical consideration——shows that “nature” here is of three different meanings: “nature” as the object, “nature” as the impression, and “nature” as the origin. “Nature” as the origin is itself an aesthetic realm, the presentation of which means a simultaneous removal of rational centralism and human centralism. Therefore, “nature” as the origin is a reliable theoretical basis of environmental aesthetics, from which we can derive inspirations and paths for solving such problems as the worsening of natural environment.
