Abstract:The new translated two books which is originally written by Britain scholar David Smith Capon is the result of the answers onthe questions as did the doctrines reflect different aspects of the build-ings such as its form and function, so giving rise to Formalism andFunctionalism, or did they reflect different aspects of the contemplat-ing subject such as his or her reason or emotion, so giving rise to Ra-tionalism and Expressionism’ The two books are the fulfillment of theintentions of the work and consists of an analysis of the architecturaltheory of the twentieth century as recorded in representative samplesof Western literature. To learn from the points and to think about thesituation or the contemporary Chinese architecture theory and prac-tice will be a reasonable help.
