These are the inverse problems for obtaining the phonon density of states, the inverse blackbody radiation problem for remote sensing, and the solution for inverse Ewald summation. Of more importance, it shows the possibility of the application of number theory to physical problems.

Abstract:An inverse theorem on an infinite sum of alternating functions is first presented in this paper. The pairwise interaction between ions in a linear ionic chain is first solved by this theorem. The result provides an interesting check on evaluations of the Madelung constant. A new result on a Fermi system is also presented as another example. Of more importance, this work shows the potential application of number theory to physical problems.

Abstract:The fermion sign problem, the biggest obstacle in quantum Monte Carlo calculations, is completely solved in this paper. Here, we find a strategy, in which the contribution from those negative-weighted paths is thoroughly cancelled or replaced by some positive-weighted paths. The crucial point lies on the Feynman path integral formula proposed in our group, which allows us to deeply analyze the Boltzmann weight of each path. Through mathematical proof, we demonstrate that physical quantities can be exactly calculated within a specific kind of paths, which have positive the Boltzmann weight. With this finding, a new Monte Carlo method is proposed, in which the fermion sign problem is absent. As an example, the current method is applied to the two-dimensional Hubbard model, and the results do manifest the correctness.

Abstract:How to give the set-solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation is an important subject[1]. The aim of this paper is to study this subject under inverse semigroups. For an inverse semigroup S and a map R:S × S→S×S, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for R to be a solution of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation, and then for the case of Clifford semigroups, four set-solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation are obtained. The solutions of the equation under the meaning of groups are generalized. This is an improvement of the study on Drinfeld problem.

Abstract:The inverse specific hear problem has played a significant role in physics. But there is no satisfactory solution for this inherently ill-posed inverse problem. The present work shows a concise and unified solution based on the Mobius inversion technique and the Poisson-Abel process. This solution can explain both Debye's and Einstein's approximations very well. All the mathematical deductions are shown in the Appendixes; they are deduced in an elementary way for physicists. Abstract:In current deductions of the inverse scattering method for solving the equation of a ferromagnetic chain, the factor λ~(-1) brings about difficulties. In this note, we show that this factor should be dropped and an equivalent result to the Takhtajan's equation can be obtained, except for some expected corrections at point λ = 0. It is also verified that the solutions given by the ISM satisfy the equation of a ferromagnetic chain.

Abstract:We propose a new approach to the fermion sign problem in systems where there is a coupling $U$ such that when it is infinite the fermions are paired into bosons and there is no fermion permutation sign to worry about. We argue that as $U$ becomes finite fermions are liberated but are naturally confined to regions which we refer to as {\em fermion bags}. The fermion sign problem is then confined to these bags and may be solved using the determinantal trick. In the parameter regime where the fermion bags are small and their typical size does not grow with the system size, construction of Monte Carlo methods that are far more efficient than conventional algorithms should be possible. In the region where the fermion bags grow with system size, the fermion bag approach continues to provide an alternative approach to the problem but may lose its main advantage in terms of efficiency. The fermion bag approach also provides new insights and solutions to sign problems. A natural solution to the "silver blaze problem" also emerges. Using the three dimensional massless lattice Thirring model as an example we introduce the fermion bag approach and demonstrate some of these features. We compute the critical exponents at the quantum phase transition and find $\nu=0.87(2)$ and $\eta=0.62(2)$.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is threefold. The first is to show the matrix inversion method as a joint basis for the inversion of two important transforms: the M\"obius and Laplace transforms. It is found that the M\"obius transform is related to a multiplicative operator while the Laplace transform is related to an additive operator. The second is to show that the matrix inverison method is a useful tool for inverse problems not only in statistical physics but also in applied physics by means of adding two other applications, one the derivation of the Fuoss-Kirkwood formulas for relaxation spectra in studies of anelasticity and dielectrics and the other the reconstruction of real signal in signal processing. The third is to indicate the potentiality of the matrix inversion method as a rough algorithm for numerical solution of the convolution integral equation.
