Abstract:A new theorem of inverse formula is introduced for a kind of infinite series. Thus some new results for important inverse problems in physics are presented in this paper. These are the inverse problems for obtaining the phonon density of states, the inverse blackbody radiation problem for remote sensing, and the solution for inverse Ewald summation. Of more importance, it shows the possibility of the application of number theory to physical problems.

Abstract:Recent literature on Weil-Petersson random hyperbolic surfaces has met a consistent obstacle: the necessity to condition the model, prohibiting certain rare geometric patterns (which we call tangles), such as short closed geodesics or embedded surfaces of short boundary length. The main result of this article is a Moebius inversion formula, allowing to integrate the indicator function of the set of tangle-free surfaces in a systematic, tractable way. It is inspired by a key step of Friedman's celebrated proof of Alon's conjecture. We further prove that our tangle-free hypothesis significantly reduces the number of local topological types of short geodesics, replacing the exponential proliferation observed on tangled surfaces by a polynomial growth.

Abstract:A general and exact solution of inverse lattice problems in physics for simple cubic (sc), fcc and binary structures are presented based on a three-dimensional Möbius inversion formula, which is unexpectedly concise and easy. More important, it shows the potential application of the theory of numbers to the physical sciences.
A Categorical Approach to Möbius Inversion via Derived Functors

Abstract:We develop a cohomological approach to Möbius inversion using derived functors in the enriched categorical setting. For a poset $P$ and a closed symmetric monoidal abelian category $\mathcal{C}$, we define Möbius cohomology as the derived functors of an enriched hom functor on the category of $P$-modules. We prove that the Euler characteristic of our cohomology theory recovers the classical Möbius inversion, providing a natural categorification. As a key application, we prove a categorical version of Rota's Galois Connection. Our approach unifies classical ideas from combinatorics with homological algebra.

Abstract:International Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics, Ahead of Print. We establish the mathematical fundamentals for a unified description of curvature, torsion, and non-metricity 2-forms in the way extending the so-called Möbius representation of the affine group, which is the method to convert the semi-direct product into the ordinary matrix product, to revive the fertility of gauge theories of gravity. First of all, we illustrate the basic concepts for constructing the metric-affine geometry. Then the curvature and torsion 2-forms are described in a unified manner by using the Cartan connection of the Möbius representation of the affine group. In this unified-description, the curvature and torsion are derived by Cartan's structure equation with respect to a common connection 1-form. After that, extending the Möbius representation, the dilation and shear 2-forms, or equivalently, the non-metricity 2-form, are introduced in the same unified manner. Based on the unified-description established in this paper, introducing a new group parametrization and applying the Inönü–Wigner group contraction to the full theory, the relationships among symmetries, geometric quantities, and geometries are investigated with respect to the three gauge groups: the metric-affine group and its extension, and an extension of the (anti)-de Sitter group in which the non-metricity exists. Finally, possible applications to theories of gravity are briefly discussed.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the properties of the Möbius addition under the action of the gyration operator gyr [ a , b ], and the relation between -translation defined by the Möbius addition and the generalized Laplace–Beltrami operator in the octonionic space. Despite the challenges posed by the non-associativity and non-commutativity of octonions, Möbius addition still exhibits many significant properties in the octonionic space, such as the left cancellation law and the gyrocommutative law. We introduce a novel approach to computing the Jacobian determinant of Möbius addition. Then, we discover that the gyration operator is closely related to the Jacobian matrix of Möbius addition. Importantly, we determine that the distinction between and is a specific orthogonal matrix factor. Finally, we demonstrate that the -translation is a unitary operator in and it commutes with the generalized Laplace–Beltrami operator in the octonionic space.

Abstract:We study the sums $\sum_{n\le X, (n,q)=1}\frac{\mu(n)}{n^s}\log^k\left(\frac{X}{n}\right)$, where $k\in\{0,1\}$, $s\in\mathbb{C}$, $\Re s>0$ and give asymptotic estimations in an explicit manner. In order to do so, we produce a large family of arithmetical identities and derive several applications. Along similar ideas, we present an appendix showing the inequality $\sum_{n\le X}\Lambda(n)/n\le \log X$, valid for any $X\geq 1$.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is threefold. The first is to show the matrix inversion method as a joint basis for the inversion of two important transforms: the M\"obius and Laplace transforms. It is found that the M\"obius transform is related to a multiplicative operator while the Laplace transform is related to an additive operator. The second is to show that the matrix inverison method is a useful tool for inverse problems not only in statistical physics but also in applied physics by means of adding two other applications, one the derivation of the Fuoss-Kirkwood formulas for relaxation spectra in studies of anelasticity and dielectrics and the other the reconstruction of real signal in signal processing. The third is to indicate the potentiality of the matrix inversion method as a rough algorithm for numerical solution of the convolution integral equation. The numerical examples given include the inversion of Laplace transform and the signal reconstruction with a Gaussian point spread kernel. (c) 1995 The American Physical Society
Möbius Homology

Abstract:This paper introduces Möbius homology, a homology theory for representations of finite posets into abelian categories. While the connection between poset topology and Möbius functions is classical, we establish a direct connection between poset topology and Möbius inversions. More precisely, the Möbius homology categorifies the Möbius inversion because its Euler characteristic is equal to the Möbius inversion of the dimension function of the representation. We also introduce a homological version of Rota's Galois Connection Theorem which relates the Möbius homology over two posets connected by a Galois connection. Our main application is to persistent homology over general posets. We show that under one definition, the persistence diagram is an Euler characteristic over a poset of intervals and hence Möbius homology is a categorification of the persistence diagram. This provides a new invariant for persistent homology over general posets. Finally, we use our homological Rota's Galois Connection Theorem to prove several results about the persistence diagram.

Abstract:Suppose M is a m-dimensional submanifold without umbilic points in the (m + p)-dimensional unit sphere S m+ p .Four basic invariants of M m under the Möbius transformation group of S m+ p are a symmetric positive definite 2-form g called the Möbius metric, a section B of the normal bundle called the Möbius second fundamental form, a 1-form called the Möbius form, and a symmetric (0, 2) tensor A called the Blaschke tensor.In the Möbius geometry of submanifolds, the most important examples of Möbius minimal submanifolds (also called Willmore submanifolds) are Willmore tori and Veronese submanifolds.In this paper, several fundamental inequalities of the Möbius geometry of submanifolds are established and the Möbius characterizations of Willmore tori and Veronese submanifolds are presented by using Möbius invariants.

Abstract:Let $x:{\bf M}^m\rightarrow {\bf S}^{m+1}$ be a hypersurface in the (m+1)-dimensional unit sphere S m+1 without umbilics. Four basic invariants of x under the Möbius transformation group in S m+1 are a Riemannian metric g called Möbius metric, a 1-form Φ called Möbius form, a symmetric (0,2) tensor A called Blaschke tensor and symmetric (0,2) tensor B called Möbius second fundamental form. In this paper, we prove the following classification theorem: let $x:{\bf M}^m\rightarrow {\bf S}^{m+1}$ be a hypersurface, which satisfies (i) Φ≡0, (ii) A+λg+μB≡0 for some functions λ and μ, then λ and μ must be constant, and x is Möbius equivalent to either (i) a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in S m+1 ; or (ii) the pre-image of a stereographic projection of a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in the Euclidean space R m+1 ; or (iii) the image of the standard conformal map of a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in the (m+1)-dimensional hyperbolic space H m+1 . This result shows that one can use Möbius differential geometry to unify the three different classes of hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in S m+1 , R m+1 and H m+1 .

Abstract:In this chapter, dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of Themistocles M. Rassias, Möbius transformation and Einstein velocity addition meet in the hyperbolic geometry of Bolyai and Lobachevsky. It turns out that Möbius addition that is extracted from Möbius transformation of the complex disc and Einstein addition from his special theory of relativity are isomorphic in the sense of gyrovector spaces.

Abstract:Using the stratifications of Deligne-Mumford moduli spaces $\overline{\mathcal M}_{g,n}$ indexed by stable graphs, we introduce a partially ordered set of stable graphs by defining a partial ordering on the set of connected stable graphs of genus $g$ with $n$ external edges. By modifying the usual definition of zeta function and Möbius function of a poset, we introduce generalized ($\mathbb Q$-valued) zeta function and generalized ($\mathbb Q$-valued) Möbius function of the poset of stable graphs. We use them to proved a generalized Möbius inversion formula for functions on the poset of stable graphs. Two applications related to duality in earlier work are also presented.

Abstract:This paper traces a straight line from classical Möbius inversion to Hopf-algebraic perturbative renormalisation. This line, which is logical but not entirely historical, consists of just a few main abstraction steps, and some intermediate steps dwelled upon for mathematical pleasure. The paper is largely expository, but contains many new perspectives on well-known results. For example, the equivalence between the Bogoliubov recursion and the Atkinson formula is exhibited as a direct generalisation of the equivalence between the Weisner--Rota recursion and the Hall--Leroux formula for Möbius inversion.
