Study on the impact of head nurses' support on nurses' work stress

Abstract:Objective To study the impact of head nurses' support on nurses' wort stress.Methods 180 nurses were observed by random sampling method.120 of them answered questionnaires by quantity research combined with quality research and 60 got organization structured interviews.Results 100 questionnaires show that nurses' two main sources of work stresses are workload and management atmosphere.Cooperation from the head nurses has positive relevance with nurses' stress from the society's recognition.Head nurses' cooperation,empathy and process management have positive relevance with management atmosphere. Head nurses' process management has positive relevance with nurses' stress from workload.The interview presents that most nurses feel that it is necessary for head nurses to help them relieve stress.Conclusion Head nurses' support can relieve nurses' work stress.

Abstract:Aim: To explore the experiences of nurses' work stress related to COVID-19 regular epidemic prevention and control in China. Background: The global COVID-19 epidemic is still severe, and China's ongoing regular epidemic prevention and control still cannot be relaxed, which places demands on nurses. Methods: Thirty nurses and eight nurse managers were interviewed using semistructured in-depth interviews, and the data were analysed by the Colaizzi seven-step analysis method. Results: Four themes were extracted as follows: environmental factors, organizational factors, personal factors and positive factors in coping with stress. Conclusions: Nursing managers should pay attention to construction of the first-line departments of regular epidemic prevention and control. The shortage of nurses' human resources and the increase of nurse-patient conflicts are problems that need to be solved urgently. In addition, this research also emphasizes the importance of promoting nurses' stress-related growth and thinking about the possibility of reform. Implications for nursing management: The construction of the hospital environment and increasing the resilience of nursing teams require attention. We should attach importance to the training of nurses' communication skills and provide sufficient organizational support and economic guarantees for nurses. Finally, perhaps we should also consider whether it is necessary to reform the relevant hospital systems and how to reform them.

Abstract:Objective To assess work stress and coping styles among different aged groups of nurses.Provide scientific base for us to control the stress and improve nursing supervision.Methods Questionnaires was been used to collected demographic characteristics,and the Nurse Job Stressors Scale,and Facility Coping Questionnaire was applied to investigate all the nurses in a new hospital.Results Nurses in different aged had a statistic difference significantly in nursing profession and work,time distribution and workload,patient nursing.Nurses who work more than 3 years were glad to study and participate with a positive response.Conclusions In a new hospital,as the backbone of the department,nurses working 3 to 10 years,whose work-related stress is above than the other party.So nurse managers should pay more attention to the part of the nurse,guide and provide more learning channels,in order to controlling the stress on the best level,and improving nursing work.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the influence of head nurses' peer support on job stress of nurses. Methods: By adopting quasi-experiment design, nurses were randomly selected from Shaoyifu Hospital of Zhejiang university from March 2006 to March 2007. All nurses were investigated by either filling out questionnaire of combination of quality and quantity study or interviewed in semi-structural mode. Results: After intervention, the job stress of nurses from management atmosphere decreased remarkably. And nurses' sensation of head nurses' supports from five aspects of objective, consciousness, goal, action and process management and total support levels have been enhanced. All interviewees had positive evaluation on head nurses' supports. Conclusion: To certain extent, head nurses' peer support can relief the job stress for nurses.

Abstract:Objective To analyze current nursing workplace.Methods Questionnaires were distributed to 565 nurses,the response rate was 73.8%,417 nurses completed the Q12 scale which consists of four dimensions:basic needs,teamwork,self-development and supervisor's support.Data collected were analyzed by SPSS.Results Highest scores were reported for basic needs and lowest for supervisor's support.Significant correlation between marital status and teamwork was found while moderate correlation between ages and basic needs,ages and teamwork.The four dimensions had non-significant correlation with ducation level,job title and nursing unit.Conclusion On the base of meeting the nurses' basic needs,further improve the nursing administration,pay attention to the nurses' individual differences,optimize the nurses' occupational environment.

Nurses must not only manage heavy workloads but also address diverse patient needs, engage in emotional labor, and cope with occupational exposure risks. These factors collectively contribute to substantial work-related stress for nurses. Abstract:Objective To investigate the sources of nursing stress in the geriatric ward.Method 156 nurses who work more than one year in the geriatric ward were selected by convenient sampling from a general hospital in Beijing.Nursing Stress Scale (NSS) was used to test the level and the sources of the stress.Results The scores of 5 subscales were showed from high to low degressively:①time assignment and workload;②the issues of nursing specialty and the problems in working;③the problems for patient care;④the issues for supervision and internal relationship and communication;⑤problems in working environment,instruments and equipments.Paired t-test showed that there was significant difference among the five subscales scores(P<0.01). Conclusions Enough attention should be paid to the sources of stress in nursing personnel of geriatric wards,and effective stress management strategies should be implemented in order to keep nurses physically and psychologically healthy and improve nursing quality.

Abstract:AIMS:This study aimed to evaluate the health-related quality of life of nursing workers and influential factors.BACKGROUND:Nursing workers are under great occupational stress. However, few population-level studies of nursing workers' health conditions have been reported from China.DESIGN:This was a cross-sectional study conducted in 12 medical institutions in east China between January and March 2015.METHODS:Social-demographic information, nursing workers' work-related information and health-related quality of life using the Chinese (mainland) version of the Short Form 36 health survey were collected by a self-administrated questionnaire.RESULTS:Nursing workers reported significantly lower scores of the vitality, mental health dimensions, and mental component summary of the Short Form 36 survey compared with general population reference values. They scored significantly higher for five other dimensions and comparably for the physical role dimension. Pre-job training, families' positive attitudes to their job, and good relationships with clients were positively related with nursing workers' mental well-being.CONCLUSION:To promote nursing workers' mental health, compulsory work-related training, voluntary psychological counselling, and targeted legislation are needed.
Investigation and countermeasures of the main job stressor of the nurses in the First Hospital of Peking University

Abstract:Objective:The study aimed to investigate the main job stressors of the nurses,so as to provide scientific basis for alleviating nurses' stress and improve their physical and mental health,and the quality of care.Methods:A questionnaire was used to collect data and totally 285 nurses were recruited to participate the study.Results:The result showed that the main job stressors of nurse included workload,job schedule,specialization and nursing work.The working environment and resource,care for patients,administration and interpersonal relationship were the second-class job stressors of nurses.Conclusion:The job stressors of the nurses included the work they did,retaining age,working place and the department.The nursing administrators should pay more attention to nurses` mental health,alleviate the stress,and do some training program to alleviate their stress,in order to maintain their mental health.

Abstract:Objective To explore the level and the reasons of the pre-hospital emergency nurses' job stress,so as to help the managers and the nurses' to look on the job stress correctly and try to alleviate it to improve the quality of nursing and keep nurses' mind and body health.Method Using the method of questionnaire to investigate nurses' job stress in pre-hospital emergency service.Results Ninety-eight percent of the stresses were above the moderate level,focusing on the aspects of nursing profession and job itself.Main stressors included poor working environment,over frequent working shift,low income,rare chances of promotion,low social status,limited chances of continuing education,anxiety about the accidence,overload work,lack of understanding and respect from other staffs and much more no nursing work.Conclusion The findings suggest that the pre-hospital emergency nurse job stress is great and effective stress management strategies should be implemented to alleviate job stress.

Abstract:<section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Aims</h3><p>In this study, we aimed to investigate work stress among Chinese nurses that are supporting Wuhan in fighting against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID‐19) infection and explore relevant influencing factors.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Background</h3><p>The COVID‐19 epidemic has posed a major threat to public health. Nurses have always played an important role in infection prevention, infection control, isolation, containment, and public health. However, available data on the work stress among these nurses is limited.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Methods</h3><p>A cross‐sectional survey. An online questionnaire was completed by 180 anti‐epidemic nurses from Guangxi. Data collection tools, including the Chinese version of the Stress Overload Scale (SOS) and the Self‐Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Descriptive, single factor, correlation, and multiple regression analyses were used in exploring related influencing factors.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Results</h3><p>The SOS (39.91±12.92) and SAS scores (32.19±7.56) of this nurse group were positively correlated (r=0.676, p<0.05). Multiple regression analysis showed that only children, working hours per week, and anxiety were the main factors affecting nurse stress (p=0.000, 0.048, 0.000, respectively).</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Conclusions</h3><p>Nurses who fight against COVID‐19 were generally under pressure.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Implications for Nursing Management</h3><p>Nurse leaders should pay attention to the work stress and the influencing factors of the nurses who are fighting against COVID‐19 infection, and offer solutions to retain mental health among these nurses.</p></section>

Abstract:Abstract Aims Due to the nature of their work, nurses are more prone to experiencing psychological consequences than other healthcare workers. However, evidence on the emotional burden of nurse managers in China is limited. Furthermore, perceived organizational support has been approved that can affect mental health outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the status quo and influencing factors of nurse managers’ work stress, and their possible relationship with perceived organizational support, which could further provide more countermeasures to safeguard their health. Methods A cross-sectional online survey of 21 secondary and tertiary hospitals was conducted in a city in Sichuan province, Southwest China, using a convenience sampling method between October and November 2022. Data were collected using the general information questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Stress Overload Scale (SOS) and the perceived Organizational Support Scale (POSS). SPSS 23.0 was applied to analyze the data. Results In total, 380 participants completed the survey. The median scores (interquartile range [IQR]) for SOS and POSS were 60.50 (50.00, 70.75) and 51.00 (44.00, 55.00), respectively. The work stress of the nurse managers was negatively correlated with perceived organizational support ( P < 0.01). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that age older than 40 years, from secondary hospitals, working in emergency or pediatric wards, and professional qualification of supervisor nurse or deputy supervisor nurse, and the scores of POSS less than 51 significantly influenced the work stress of the nurse managers. Conclusions Our study shows that nurse managers are more prone to work stress, and organizational support can effectively reduce this stress. Governments and hospital administrators should pay more attention to providing comprehensive strategies based on various risk factors to protect and promote psychological health.

Abstract:Objective: To know primary job stressors between emergency room nurses and ward nurses in county level hospital,and provide scientific basis for alleviating nurses' stress, and improve body and mind health level of nurses. Method: To Make an investigation to 50 emergency room nurses and 50 ward nurses through an Job Stressors Questionnaire. Result: The high level of job stressors among all staff nurses were the professional and career issues workload and time pressure and patient care and interaction. The common level of job stressors among all staff nurses were resource and environmental problems, interpersonal relationships and management issues. For resource and environmental problems, was significantly difference between stress level of emergency room nurses and ward nurses ( P 0.05). Suggestion: To bring forward measures alleviating staff nurses' stress including:①improving emergency room environment;② reasonably arranging ward staff nurses; ③decreasing paper work of ward staff nurses;④strengthening all staff nurses' coping stress ability .

Abstract:Nurse is one of the most common occupations in shift work. Due to the particularity of nursing work, shift work often causes nurses to suffer from shift work sleep disorders. It will not only lead to an increase in the risk of accidents in work, but also increase the incidence of nursing errors, and even seriously harm the physical and mental health of individual nurses. This paper reviews the prevalence, serious harm, related influencing factors and intervention measures of shift work sleep disorders among nurses at home and abroad, in order to expect nursing managers and nurses to raise their awareness and pay attention to shift work sleep disorders, thereby improving professional identity and happiness of nurses.
Workplace and Personal Factors Associated with Physical and Mental Health in Hospital Nurses in China.

Abstract:Limited research exists on the workplace and personal factors that might be associated with the physical and mental health of nurses working in China. Therefore, the purposes of this study were to examine, in Chinese hospital nurses, the most frequently occurring workplace stressor, the most often used coping strategy, and the relationships that exist among workplace stressors, coping strategies, psychological hardiness, demographic characteristics, and physical and mental health. Four-hundred-and-eighty hospital nurses from five hospitals in three major Chinese cities were administered five self-report questionnaires. The findings indicated the most frequently cited workplace stressor was workload, while the most commonly used coping strategy was positive reappraisal. Numerous positive and negative correlations were found, suggesting the importance that workplace stress, coping strategies, psychological hardiness, and demographic characteristics play in relationship to each other, as well as to both the physical and mental health of Chinese nurses.

Abstract:It expounded the status quo of research on communication of nurses in abroad and in China.The author thought that research on communication of nurses was relatively mature in abroad.Assessment tools included Roter interaction analysis system,four conventions coding system,conversation analysis and communication scale.However,research on communication of nurses in China was still at the starting stage.Rating scales development are not mature.It needs to develop assessment scales of communication skills for evaluation of clinical nurses so as to provide some bases for evaluating and enhancing communication skills of clinical nurses.
The Study of Perceived Stress, Coping Strategy and Self-Efficacy of Chinese Undergraduate Nursing Students in Clinical Practice

Abstract:The aim of the study was to explore the coping strategy and the effects of self-efficacy of Chinese undergraduate nursing students when they face the stress in clinical practice. Convenience sampling was used to recruit undergraduate nursing students in Mainland China who have practiced 3 months in hospitals in their final college year. Self-report questionnaires including demographics, Perceived Stress Scale, coping behaviour inventory and Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale were collected. The results showed that during clinical practice, assignments and workload were the most common stress to students; transference was the most frequently used coping strategy by students. Self-efficacy not only had a positive main effect in predicting the frequency of use of staying optimistic and problem solving strategies but also moderated the effects of stress from taking care of patients on transference strategy, as well as stress from assignments and workload on problem solving strategy. It is essential to bolster the students' self-efficacy to reduce stress and adopt positively the coping strategies during clinical practice.
