Abstract:We reveal a contradiction in measure-theoretic probability. The contradiction is an "equation" $1/2 = 0$ with its two sides representing probabilities. Unlike known paradoxes in mathematics, the revealed contradiction cannot be explained away and actually indicates that measure-theoretic probability is inconsistent. Appearing only in the theory, the contradiction does not exist in the physical world. So practical applications of measure-theoretic probability will not be affected by the inconsistency as long as "ideal events" in the theory (which will never occur physically) are not mistaken for real events in the physical world. Nevertheless, the inconsistency must be resolved. Constructive mathematics can avoid such inconsistency. There is no contradiction reported in constructive mathematics.

Abstract:We start by presenting a theory of finite sets using the approach which is essentially that taken by Whitehead and Russell in Principia Mathematica}, and which does not involve the natural numbers (or any other infinite set). This theory is then applied to prove results about structures which, like the natural numbers, satisfy the principle of mathematical induction, but do not necessarily satisfy the remaining Peano axioms.

However, when we consider finitely supported sets, the notion of finiteness becomes more interesting and richer. We present several independent definitions of finite sets within the framework of finitely supported structures, emphasizing the differences between these definitions.

Abstract:Infinite statistics in which all representations of the symmetric group can occur is known as a special case of quon theory. However, the validity of relativistic quon theories is still in doubt. In this paper we prove that there exists a relativistic quantum field theory which allows interactions involving infinite statistics particles. We also give some consistency analysis of this theory such as conservation of statistics and Feynman rules.

Abstract:Alternative set theory was created by the Czech mathematician Petr Vop\v enka in 1979 as an alternative to Cantor's set theory. Vop\v enka criticised Cantor's approach for its loss of correspondence with the real world. Alternative set theory can be partially axiomatised and regarded as a nonstandard theory of natural numbers. However, its intention is much wider. It attempts to retain a correspondence between mathematical notions and phenomena of the natural world. Through infinity, Vop\v enka grasps the phenomena of vagueness. Infinite sets are defined as sets containing proper semisets, i.e. vague parts of sets limited by the horizon. The new interpretation extends the field of applicability of mathematics and simultaneously indicates its limits. This incidentally provides a natural solution to some classic philosophical problems such as the composition of a continuum, Zeno's paradoxes and sorites. Compared to strict finitism and other attempts at a reduction of the infinite to the finite Vop\v enka's theory reverses the process: he models the finite in the infinite.

Abstract:The theory of finitely supported algebraic structures represents a reformulation of Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory in which every construction is finitely supported according to the action of a group of permutations of some basic elements named atoms. In this paper we study the properties of finitely supported sets that contain infinite uniformly supported subsets, as well as the properties of finitely supported sets that do not contain infinite uniformly supported subsets. For classical atomic sets, we study whether they contain or not infinite uniformly supported subsets.

Abstract:The Problem of Continuity and Discreteness is the basic problem of philosophy and mathematics. For a long time, there is no clear understanding of this problem, which leads to the stagnation of the problem, because the essence of the problem is a problem of finity and infinity. The essence of the philosophical thought on which the mathematical definition of “line segment is composed of dots” is the idea of actual infinity, and geometric dot is equivalent to algebraic zero in terms of measure properties. In view of the above contradictions, this paper presents two solutions satisfying both the philosophical and mathematical circles based on the view of dialectical infinity, and the authors make a deep analysis of Zeno’s paradox and the non-measurable set based on both solutions.

Abstract:A partition is finitary if all its members are finite. For a set $A$, $\mathscr{B}(A)$ denotes the set of all finitary partitions of $A$. It is shown consistent with $\mathsf{ZF}$ (without the axiom of choice) that there exist an infinite set $A$ and a surjection from $A$ onto $\mathscr{B}(A)$. On the other hand, we prove in $\mathsf{ZF}$ some theorems concerning $\mathscr{B}(A)$ for infinite sets $A$, among which are the following: (1) If there is a finitary partition of $A$ without singleton blocks, then there are no surjections from $A$ onto $\mathscr{B}(A)$ and no finite-to-one functions from $\mathscr{B}(A)$ to $A$. (2) For all $n\in\omega$, $|A^n|<|\mathscr{B}(A)|$. (3) $|\mathscr{B}(A)|\neq|\mathrm{seq}(A)|$, where $\mathrm{seq}(A)$ is the set of all finite sequences of elements of $A$.

Abstract:In this article, we explore the notion of infinity by studying Cantor's contribution to this field. A brief history of set theory is given. As an example of infinity, we consider Hilbert's famous hotel. A graphical construction is used to demonstrate the countability of rationals. Cantor's diagonal procedure is explored, demonstrating that the infinity of real numbers is greater than that of integers. There is therefore a hierarchy of infinities, enabling us to elaborate on the continuum hypothesis, which remains an unsolved problem in mathematics.

Abstract:Our main result (Theorem A) shows the incompleteness of any consistent sequential theory T T formulated in a finite language such that T T is axiomatized by a collection of sentences of bounded quantifier-alternation-depth. Our proof employs an appropriate reduction mechanism to rule out the possibility of completeness by simply invoking Tarski's Undefinability of Truth theorem. We also use the proof strategy of Theorem A to obtain other incompleteness results.

Abstract:This work presents theorems which state (i) Z is a proper subset for any bijection f between A and Z, where Z is contained in P(A), A is a non-finite set and |Z|=|A|, and (ii) being Z a proper subset of P(A) nothing affirms or denies that |P(A)|>|A|. Russell's paradox is examined and it is shown that the set of all the ordinary sets does not exist. A mistake in Cantor's proof on cardinality of power sets is shown.
