Intellectual Property Protection and Social Welfare Effect in a Open Economy

Abstract:The normal studies about IPP and social welfare effect in the open economy have shown that,for the purpose of protecting innovator's benefits,developed countries will require developing countries to raise their intellectual property protection level.But this requirement cannot essentially improve the welfare of the developed countries nor that of the developing countries.Besides,as two of the most important transmission mechanism between intellectual property protection and welfare,the response of technology innovation and technology diffusion to the IPP of South-Country is also uncertainty.Empirical studies have shown that intellectual property protection will influence economic growth,international trade,FDI and technology transfer.From the perspective of Development Economics,the analysis about the influences of IPP on poverty,unemployment and the upgrading of industrial structure is one important extension of the current researches.
