Abstract:Four new compounds (1a and 2-4), a series of uncommon eremophilane derivatives with C19-carbon skeleton, were isolated from the roots of Ligularia sagitta Maxim. Their structures were respectively determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis (IR, MS, NMR, and X-ray).

Abstract:Ligulasagitins A–E (1–5), five new eremophilane-derived metabolites possibly formed via a Diels–Alder reaction in the biosynthetic process, were isolated from Ligularia sagitta Maxim. Among them 1 and 2 possess a novel C19 skeleton, 4 and 5 are two novel dimeric eremophilane type derivatives. Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis and the structure of 2 was also confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Furthermore, 4 and 5 showed weak cytotoxic activity against HL-60 (human promyelocytic leukemia) cells.

Abstract:Two known eremophilanodiolides [1,2] and four new compounds of this class [3-6], a new eremophilanolide [7], two eremophilane epimers [9,10], and a noreremophilane derivative [8], were isolated in a phytochemical investigation of the the roots of Ligularia przewalskii. Abstract:One new triterpene and seven new eremophilane-type sesquiterpenes were isolated from the roots of Ligularia sagitta, among them la, an O-acetylated oleanane type triterpene, 2a and 3a, two 11-nor eremophilane-type sesquiterpenes, 4a, 5, and 6, three standard eremophilane-type sesquiterpenes, and 7 and 8, two tri-nor eremophilane-type sesquiterpenes. Their structures were established by extensive spectral analyses (1D, 2D-NMR, IR, and MS). Compound la showed moderate cytotoxicity against two tumor cell lines.

Abstract:From Ligularia atroviolacea, four new eremophilendiolides, 8β-hydroxy-eremophil-3,7 (11)-dien-12,8α(14,6α)-diolide (1), 8β-methoxy-eremophil-3,7(11)-dien-12,8α(14,6α)-diolide (2), 8α-hydroxy-eremophil-3,7(11)-dien-12,8β(14,6α)-diolide (3) and eremophil-3,7(11),8-trien-12,8 (14,6α)-diolide (4), as well as a known diolide (5) were isolated. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR as well as ESI-MS spectral data.

Abstract:Ligulaverin A I, an eremophilane derivative with a novel carbon skeleton, was isolated from the medicinal plant Ligularia veitchiana, along with four analogues (ligulaverin B 2, ligulaverin C 3, ligulaverin D 4 and ligulaverin E 5). Abstract:Three new eremophilane-type sesquitererpenes (1, 2 and 3) were isolated from the roots of Ligularia macrophylla. On the basis of spectroscopic methods including 2D NMR and X-ray diffraction experiment, their structures were elucidated as 6 alpha, 15 beta-epoxy-8 beta-hydroxy-7(11)-8 alpha, 12-olide (1), 7-acetyl-6(7)-en-noreremophil- 13 beta-carboxylic acid (2) and eremophil-7(11)-en-6 alpha, 15 beta-olide (3). In addition, antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity activity of compound 1 were tested.

Abstract:Chemical investigation of the roots of Ligularia sagitta has resulted in the characterization of six eremophilenolides 60,80-dimethoxy-10beta-hydroxyeremophil-7(11)-en-12,8alpha-olide (1), 6beta-angeloyloxy-10beta-hydroxy-8beta-methoxyeremophil-7(11)-en-12,8alpha- olide (2), 6beta-(2'-methylbutanoyloxy)-10beta-hydroxy-8beta-methoxyeremophil-7(11)-en-12,8alpha-olide (3), 6beta-angeloyloxy-10beta-hydroxy-8alpha-methoxyeremophil-7(11)-en-12,8alpha-olide (4), 6beta-(2'-methylbutanoyloxy)-10beta-hydroxy-8alpha-methoxyeremophil-7(11)-en- 12,8beta-olide (5) and 8beta,10beta-dihydroxy-6beta-methoxyeremophil-7(11)-en-12,8alpha-olide (6), together with one monoterpene (3R,4R,6S)-3,6-dihydroxy-1-menthene (7), two triterpenes lupeol (8) and ursolic acid (9), and beta-sitosterol (10). The structures of five new constituents (1-5) were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including 2D-NMR experiments. The compounds 1, 5 and 7 showed antibacterial activity by being assayed against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli.

Abstract:Four new eremophilenolides, 1-4, have been isolated from the whole plant of Ligulariopsis shichuana, Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including 2D NMR experiments. Structures of compounds 1 and 2 were unequivocally established by X-ray diffraction experiments. All of these sesquiterpenes have eremophilane skeletons with 7(11)-en-8(12) lactone units. Compounds I and 2 showed moderate antibacterial activities against E. coli and B. subtilis.

Abstract:Six new highly oxygenated eremophilane-type sesquiterpene derivatives (1-6), including a norbisesquiterpene, were isolated from an extract of the roots of Ligularia lapathifolia, and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. The structure of 1 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. In addition, the cytotoxicity of compounds 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 was evaluated against selected cancer cell lines, including human stomach carcinoma (MGC-803), human hepatoma (HEP-G2), and murine sarcoma (S-180) cell lines.
