Abstract:A pair of reflective fly eye lens with a high brightness LED as light source is put forward for micro-display projector. Because of reflective system, the embodiment is shorter than 20 mm. The uniformity is above 80% and the efficiency of the illuminator is better than 75%. The design method with induced equations for calculating the lens surface is given. Computer simulated results are also presented.

Abstract:High power Light-Emitting Diodes are used as the illuminating system of the portable projection system more recently. Through analysis the optical structure of high-power LEDs, the LED's optical model and package were simulated and the luminous intensity distribution diagram was obtained. According to the rectangle illuminating requirement of the projection system (the ratio of illuminating length and width is 4:3), a pair of reflective fly eye lens illuminating system with the characteristic of high-bright and uniformity illuminating was designed. Experimental results showed that greater than 85% of the uniform degree of illumination, the output light energy utilization ratio of 80% and the angle of divergence of 38 degree on the object plane were obtained while using the white LED as the light source with illuminating model of Lambertian distribution, luminous flux of 120lm and angle of divergence of 150 degree. This system will be fit for the portable and mini-projection system and other small light-emitting area, uniformity illuminating projection system.

Abstract:Reflective fly-eye condenser with a high brightness LED as light source for micro-display projector is presented. The structure consists of a pair of identical symmetrical elliptical surfaces on which arranged curved mirror arrays. The advantages are compact volume, no chromatism, and uniform intensity profile. The embodiment is shorter than 20 mm. The uniformity is above 80% and the efficiency of the illuminator is better than 75%.

Abstract:White LED has advantages of higher electro-optical conversion efficiency,saving energy,more reliable,longer life,and higher speed modulation,hence it is widely recognized as the next generation of green products for illumination.Indoor visible light communication is a new technology which combines the communication technology with the illumination technology using white LEDs.Such a kind of wireless communications can transmit data from a few meters to tens of meters away,which has notable characteristics of saving energy,safe and large capacity.As a new wireless communication means,it has attracted more and more scholars home and abroad to pay attention to,and has become an important future direction of optical wireless communications.The paper introduces its development home and abroad,and analyzes the key technologies to tackle.Finally it predicts the trends of indoor visible light communication with white LED.

Abstract:With the advance in LCOS panel,LCOS projector is the only way to utilize a high resolution and micromation of the projector.Thus we require more intense,focused light with lower extended values.In this paper,we used two panel LEDs and a FF optical system,which includes a polarization conversion system,a light pipe and an illuminating lens.The simulation result shows that the light is uniform on the LCOS and the efficiency is high.The illumination system has a good performance,with also a simple and compact structure.

Abstract:The direct-lit LED backlight is a key component in large-area LCD displays. The existing methods which rely on point source assumption and irradiance feedback are less effective in compact designs in near field, and designing thin and high-quality back-lit LED backlights still remains a challenging issue. In this paper, we develop a direct method for designing thin and high-quality back-lit LED backlight systems. The étendue of LED light sources is considered in the numerical calculation of the lens profiles without cumbersome Monte Carlo ray tracing, which allows us to obtain compact LED lighting modules and achieve accurate control of the near-field irradiance distribution of the backlight system. Two examples are presented to demonstrate the elegance of this method in designing thin and high-quality back-lit LED backlights.

Abstract:A compact LCD projection display system and its optical performance are discussed in this paper. In order to improve optical performance, two flyingeye lens have been employed in the system. It can improve the brightness uniformity of display image. Also, a polarized light transformer, which involves two functions: polarizing light radiation and converting unpolarized light into the same polarization direction light beam for LCD panels, has been developed to increase the optical efficiency and contrast ratio. Moreover, color separation and combination system has been designed and developed. Under these construction, the system with good optical performance and outstanding picture quality has been achieved.

Abstract:This article analyzes the efficacy of the light sources and their limitations in theory and in technology. The LED's spectra were simulated by a Gaussian model to calculate the efficacy. The conventional light sources have been compared with LEDs; the results show that significant increase of LEDs' internal quantum efficiency and extraction efficiency is essential for LED application in general lighting. Abstract:A high‐efficiency and ultra‐compact pico‐projection engine is designed by using micro‐LED arrays. By integrated a microlens array (MLA) on micro‐LED pixels, the optical energy utilization can be increased by about 3.5 times with the volume of 25.3 mm3 for the projection engine. Pico‐projection displays are the main developing direction for future projection displays, but the balance between the optical efficiency and the system size is still a big concern. This paper presents a pico‐projector design based on micro‐LED (μLED) light sources. Firstly, based on the analysis of the characteristics of μLED, a highly integrated microlens array is designed to improve the system efficiency by reshaping the spatial light distribution. In addition, the matching relationship between the aperture angle of projection lens and the divergence angle of μLED is studied, and on this basis, a set of four‐piece spherical lens group is proposed to achieve compact size. Simulation results show that the μLED equipped with the microlens array can concentrate about 86% of the light energy within a dispersion angle of ±20°, thus increasing the light energy utilization by about 3.5 times and reducing the size of the pico‐projector to 30.18 mm3. The designed pico‐projector has high performance and compact size with great potential for future applications.

Abstract:Appling various LED chip structures,the Etendue of LED chip as well as LED array,which were affected by flux emitting from side surface,was calculated.According to the calculation results of such Etendue,the Luminous-per-Etendue in LED multi-chip array designed for LED projector light source with different spacing between chips and chip thickness was studied.The analysis indicated that,the thin-film LED is a more suitable candidate for LED array used for LED projector light source,because of its characteristics that can be adept to get higher Luminous-per-Etendue in LED array.A thin-film flip-chip with periodical sphere holes textured surface was proposed.The Luminous-per-Etendue of LED array using the textured thin-film flip-chip increased by 164% and 150% compared with conventional sapphire-based LED and SiC-based flip-chip LED,respectively,without encapsulation.

Abstract:To compare the luminous efficiencies of different street lightings,it is necessary to establish an appropriate photometric measuring model.In this paper, two kinds of traditional street lights and two kinds of Lighting Emitting Diode(LED) sources were selected for comparing their luminous efficiencies in the mesopic state and photopic state,then the MOVE model was used to derive the luminous efficiencies of the four kinds of lightings.Compared with the luminous efficiencies in photopic state,the luminous efficiency of the LED street lights and the Metal Halide(MH) lamps have improved significantly in the mesopic vision.However,the efficiency of the Hight Pressure Sodium(HPS) has decreased under the mesopic vision.Furthermore,when background luminance varies from 0.03 cd/m2 to 0.1 cd/m2,and then to 0.3 cd/m2,the luminous efficiency of the LED street lighting in the mesopic visual state will decrease from 131.2 lm/W to 122.7 lm/W firstly but then increase to 140.5 lm/W.It is concluded that the sensitivity of human eye changes in the different brightnesses of backgrounds.Among HPS,MH,standard LED light and modified LED light based on mesopic vision theory,the LED can offer the best solution in energy saving.Moreover,the LED lightings with more high efficiency can be obtained further by optimizing their spectra.

Abstract:To keep micro projection system compact and highly efficient, an illuminating system is proposed based on LCoS and LED. This system follows the principle of Kohler illumination. By modifying Kohler illumination system and setting the rational stop, uniformity lighting zone can be got on the LCoS plane. Besides, this system becomes simple and compact. Spherical lens and aspherical lens are used in this illuminating system respectively. And simulation results show that illumination efficiency is 86% for spherical lens and 95% for aspherical lens. When using aspherical lens, transmission efficiency of the whole projection system is 9.94% and spatial uniformity is above 90%. The thickness of optical module is less than 9 mm.

Abstract:Micro LED can play an important role in the future generation of smart displays. They are found very attractive in many applications, such as maskless lithography, biosensor, AR/MR etc., at the same time. A monitor that can fulfill saturated color rendering, high display resolution, and fast response time is highly desirable, and the micro LED-based technology could be our best chance to meet these requirements. At present, semiconductor-based RGB micro LED chips and color-conversion enhanced Micro LEDs are the major contenders for the full-color high resolution displays. Both of the methods need revolutionary ways to perfect the material qualities, fabricate the device, assemble the individual parts into a system. In this roadmap, we will highlight the current status and challenges of the micro LED-related issues, and discuss the possible advances in science and technology that can stand up to the challenges. The innovation in epitaxy, such as the tunnel junction, the direct epitaxy and nitride based quantum wells for red and ultraviolet, can provide critical solutions of the micro LED performance in various aspects. The quantum scale structure like nanowire or nanorod can be crucial for the scaling of the devices. Meanwhile, the color conversion method, which uses colloidal quantum dots as the active material, can provide a hassle-free way to assemble a large micro LED array, and emphasis on the full color demonstration via colloidal quantum dots. These quantum dots can be patterned by porous structure, inkjet or photo-sensitive resin. In addition to the micro LED devices, the peripheral components or technologies are equally important. Microchip transfer and repair, heterogeneous integration with the electronics and the novel 2D material cannot be ignored or the overall display module will be very power-consuming. The augmented reality is one of the potential customer for our micro-LED displays and the user experience so far is limited due to lack of the truly qualified display. Our analysis showed the micro LED is on the way to address and solve the current problems, such as high loss optical coupling and narrow field of view. All these efforts are channeled to achieve an efficient display with all ideal qualities that meet our most stringent viewing requirements and expect it to become an indispensable part of our daily life.
LEDs: A Promising Energy-Saving Light Source for Road Lighting

Abstract:Rising demand with diminishing reserves of oil and gas spread the energy crisis all over the world. Renewable energy and efficiency technology are the keys to resolve the energy crisis. As the improvement in luminous efficacy, LEDs have been an energy-saving choice for general illumination and road lighting. This paper made a comparison between LEDs system and HPS system for road lighting to evaluate which one is more energy efficient and discussed some factors may influence the efficiency of LEDs system and HPS system, such as mesopic vision, dimming, color of illumination. Though the difference in total luminaire efficacy was not that much in favor of the LEDs, LEDs show a promising prospect in the near future because of the dramatic improvement in luminous efficacy.

Abstract:As a new_fashioned solid state lighting source,LED has many unique advantages such as nearly no pollution of the product and in the production process;resistance to vibration;easily dimmering from 0 to 100%;operating under safe extra low voltage;continuously operating under the condition of switch_off;having a fixed direction of the light output etc.In recent years,LED's obvious improvement of luminous efficacy and photometric characteristic let it be applied for commercial purpose.But for the influence of our country's plan_economics industry arrangement and for the lack of the popularization of LED professional knowledge and comprehensive knowledge of lighting equipments in the professional personnel,LED is not appropriately applied in practical design and application according to its characteristics and there appear many unreasonable and unqualified application products.This passage analyzes the problems occurring in LED's application in the luminaries for road and street lighting and also put forward some ideas and examples for solving the problems,as reference to professional colleagues.

Abstract:Micro-LED display technology is considered to be the next generation of display technology, which has the characteristics of high miniaturization, thin film and integration, as well as the advantages of high brightness, high contrast, fast response speed and long service life. However, in the development of Micro-LED display technology, there are still some technical and cost problems to be solved. This paper focuses on the key technologies involved in Micro-LED display technology, such as chip technology, mass transfer, full-color display, bonding and driving technology, the research history and frontier progress of these technologies are reviewed in detail. For chip epitaxy technology, the wavelength uniformity, current density and defect control are emphasized; for chip process, the two main chip structures and the challenges brought by miniaturization are discussed emphatically; for chip integration, full-color display, backplane bonding and driving, several mainstream technical schemes are summarized in turn. Finally, the chip detection and repair technologies and commercial application are introduced.
