A Study of the "Dream" Images in Lu You's Poems

Abstract:In the literary arena of the Song dynasty, Lu You made the most use of dream images in his poems. As a mental activity stretching from daytime to nighttime, the dream represents man's state of existence and mental pursuit to some extent. By interpreting the dream images, researchers can in a unique perspective probe into the sentiment and inner heart of the poets concerned. While Lu You's poems on dreams have long been the focus of study, there have been defects in the coverage and range of the study. In view of this, this paper attempts to make an overall study of "dream images" in Lu You's poems so as to reveal the distribution of dream images in the different stages of his life and his attitude to his state of existence and mental pursuit.
