Abstract:The 403–700 nm emission spectrum observed in ArF laser photolysis of stibine was recorded for the first time and was assigned to the SbH2(Ã2A1 → X̃2B1) transition. More than fifty emission lines arising from the transitions of Sb(6s → 5p) were also observed.

Abstract:Multi-line laser transitions from one metastable triplet state to another at wavelengths of 2.92, 3.01, 2.69 and 2.60 μm have been obtained through high pulse repetition frequency longitudinal discharge in a mixed gas of strontium vapor and helium buffer gas. The intensity ratio of these laser lines was 5:4:4:1. As far as we know, these laser lines have never been reported except for 3.01 μm. Some mechanisms for forming a population inversion are initially discussed on the basis of analyzing features of corresponding energy-level structure and experimental phenomena. It is reasonable to name this kind of laser as an M–M transition laser according to the feature of the lasing process.

Abstract:A new-style discharge tube for a metal vapour laser has been designed and built. SrBr2 was successfully used to replace the metal strontium as a working medium. Multi-line laser oscillations from resonance to metastable transition of strontium atoms (6.45 mum), ions (1.03 mum/1.09 mum) and from strontium ion recombination (416.2 nm/430.5 nm) have been obtained through longitudinal pulsed discharge. The problem of an incompatibility reaction between metallic strontium and the discharge tube in the strontium vapour laser has been solved. Some proposals are presented for further developments of strontium halide lasers.

Abstract:An investigation of a strontium bromide vapor laser excited by a nanosecond pulsed longitudinal discharge is presented. The optimal discharge conditions for laser oscillation on several Sr atom and ion lines are found. At multiline output an average laser power of 2.4 W is obtained, more than 80 % of which is concentrated at the 6.45-mu m Sr atom line.

Abstract:A cataphoresis discharge tube of 7mm inner diameter and 38cm active length was designed and made for the He–Sr+ laser. The cataphoretic input of uniform distribution of strontium vapor concentrations along the active region was realized by the cataphoresis effect and the slow flowing (0.5nl/h) of helium buffer gas. The strontium ionic recombination laser at 430.5nm and the R–M transition laser at 1.03μm were obtained with the modified Blumlein circuit by high-frequency longitudinal pulsed discharge. The laser components are concentrated on the 430.5nm wavelength. Dependences of working parameters such as the pulse frequency, the supply voltage, and the helium pressure on laser output characteristics were measured and discussed. The maximum laser output power of 819mW and specific power of 56mW/cm3 were obtained, respectively.
THE M-M TRANSITION LASERS IN STRONTIUM VAPOR

Abstract:A set of laser oscillations of four strontium atom spectral lines simultaneity have been obtained, through high-repetition-frequency pulsed discharge in mixed gases of strontium vapor and helium buffer gas. The corresponding wavelengths with the transitions from compound three-energy levels 4d·3D3,2,1 to 5p·3P02,1,0 are 2.92μm, 3.01μm, 2.69μm and 2.60μm respectively,their ratios of intensities are 5∶4∶4∶1 and the total average laser power is 10mW.As far as we know,the laser spectral lines have never been reported except 3.01μm.On the basis of analyzing characteristics of corresponding energy levels and experimental phenomena,the action mechanism is discussed primarily.We suggest the classification of the spectral lines to be named as M-M transition laser.

Abstract:The NH(A (3)Pi -> X (3)Sigma(-)) fluorescence spectrum, of 331-343 nm, wavelength region was recorded when NH3 was irradiated by the 193 nm ArF laser beam (Fig. 1) The ratio of the intensity I-f of Q(0,0) to that of Q(1,1) suggests that 5% of population of NH(A (3)Pi)) is in the first vibrational state (nu' = 1). For the rotational lines of the P branch, a diagram of In I-f/(2N' +1) vs. Be N' (N' + 1) is plotted in Fig 2, in which I-f corresponds to the relative intensities of the rotational lines of the P branch and NI is the rotational quantum number of NH(A (3)Pi, nu'), NH(A (3)Pi) is highly rotationally excited in the first 12 levels with a Boltzmann temperature of T-R = 7700K.A single-exponential decay of the NH(A (3)Pi -> X (3)Sigma-) emission was found and a lifetime of (470 +/- 40) us was obtained, The Sterm-Volmer plots are shown in Fig,3, The quenching rate coefficients of NH(A 317)by various gases were measured from the slopes as: k(Hz) = (4.8 +/- 0.5) x 10(-11) cm(3) molec(-1) s(-1), k(NO) = (7.3 +/- 1.0) x 10(-11) cm(3) molec(-1) s(-1), k(cH) = (6.6 +/- 1.5) x 10(-11) cm(3) molec(-1) s(-1) and K-O2 = (2.9 +/- 0.2) x 10(-11) cm(3) molec(-1) s(-1), The quenching rate coeffecient of Ar gas is of order of 10(-13) cm(3). molec(-1) s(-1).The first 193 am photon is absorbed by NH3(X: A(i)') and makes it to NH3((A) over bar). The predissociation of NH3((A) over bar (1) A(2)') is very rapid, The nascent NH2 ((A) over bar (1); A(2)') can further absorb a second 193nm photon to the NH2(B B-2(2)) state, The bond angle changes tremendously from 141,4 degrees to 50 degrees for above process. The fragment NH(A Pi) species then possesses a high rotational excitation population which agrees the experimental temperature of T-R = 7700K.

Abstract:Strontium halide was substituted for metal strontium by way of lasing substance, a few of strontium laser oscillations have been obtained including strontium atom self-terminating lasing with wavelength 6.45 μm, strontium ion self-terminating lasing with wavelength 1.03/1.09 μm, and strontium ion recombination lasing with wavelength 416.2/430.5 nm. The developing foreground of strontium halide laser was prospected.

Abstract:The AsH2(Ã2A1 → X̃2B1) emission spectrum (402–650 nm) following ArF laser photolysis of AsH3 is reported. Seven bands are assigned and the relation ν = 19928 + (868v'2-3v'22)-(987v″2-6v″22) is obtained. The AsH2 (Ã2A1) radiative lifetime is 130 ± 20 ns. Emission spectra from nascent As and a multiphoton ionization signal were also obtained.

Abstract:A systematic investigation was made for the R-M transition and recombination lasers in strontium ions by the longitudinal pulse discharge-excited with the helium buffer gas in a quartz discharge tube of 9 mm inner diameter and 42cm electrode's separation. The laser power of each-line as a function of different working parameters, as well as the corresponding photo-electrical pulse waveforms were analyzed and observed for two kinds of optical cavity. A set of better operating parameters was also obtained for the multi-line strontium ion laser.

Abstract:Since the first observation of high order harmonic generation (HOHG) in a rare gas jet, the creation of ultrashort laser pulses in the extreme UV (XUV) has been a field of continuous development. The increasing accessibility of femtosecond lasers and chirped pulsed amplifiers (CPA) has helped to fuel research into the fundamentals of the HOHG process [1], its practical implementation and tentative uses of such a source in spectroscopy. One of our particular interests in the use of this facility is to study the ability of these ultrashort pulses to initiate photochemical processes on clean or adsorbate-covered (SF6 or CCl4) silicon surfaces. More recently, femtosecond or even atto-second laser pulses has been evoked as being the best tools to photo-ablate polymeric materials [2]. VUV studies [3] also demonstrate that higher photon energies applied on the same kind of matter can decrease dramatically the threshold fluence for the onset of ablation. We seek to determine exactly what happens when both conditions (ultrafast and VUV pulses) are combined during irradiation.

Abstract:The wavelength of a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser (TS, 800 nm) was converted into the ultraviolet (UV, 200 nm) using three β-barium borate crystals (β-BaB2O4) for frequency doubling and subsequent mixing. The UV pulse was further converted into the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV, 185 nm) based on four-wave Raman mixing, in which a two-color pump beam consisting of the fundamental beam (800 nm) of the TS and the signal beam of an optical parametric amplifier (1200 nm) pumped by the TS was focused onto a capillary waveguide filled with hydrogen gas for molecular phase modulation and the single-color UV probe beam (200 nm) was then focused onto the waveguide for frequency modulation to generate anti-Stokes and high-order Stokes Raman sidebands at wavelengths of 185 and 218-267 nm, respectively. The efficiency of conversion from the UV (200 nm) to the VUV (185 nm) was 6%. The ionization energy was calculated for 13 amino polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons using density functional theory, since they are associated with the development of occupational bladder cancers. The values calculated by the B3LYP/cc-pVDZ and ωB97Xd/cc-pVTZ methods were 6.24-7.14 eV (199-174 nm) and 6.41-7.35 eV (194-169 nm), respectively. A sample containing a mixture of 9-aminoanthracene, 3-aminofluoranthene, and 1-aminopyrene was separated by gas chromatography (GC), and the eluents were ionized with the VUV pulse (0.015 μJ) in mass spectrometry (MS). The analytes were observed on a two-dimensional display of GC/MS, and the detection limit obtained by single-photon ionization of 3-aminofluoranthene was 1 ng/μL.

Abstract:The dispersed fluorescence spectrum of SO2((BB1)-B-1-->X(1)A(1), 320-380 nm) excited by 266 nm laser into the first allowed absorption region (240-340 nm) where the high vibrational levels of A(1)A(2) and (BB1)-B-1 states are strongly coupled, and its preliminary assignment are presented. A three-level model is proposed to deal with the SO2-(X(1)A(1), A(1)A(2), (BB1)-B-1) system, and the coupling coefficient, xi, and the relaxation time, tau, at the high vibrational levels of A(1)A(2), and (BB1)-B-1 states have been obtained. The results show that xi and tau keep basically constant under our experimental conditions, which reflects the characteristics of the system.

Abstract:UV light irradiation of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in low temperature solid argon matrix produces sulfenic ester, CH3SOCH3, a high energy structural isomer of DMSO. The sulfenic ester molecule further dissociates to the CH2O-CH3SH complex under 266 nm laser irradiation. The CH2S-CH3OH complex is also formed upon UV light irradiation. The infrared spectra-of the aforementioned species are assigned on the basis of isotopic substitutions (C-13 and deuterium) as well as density functional frequency calculations.

Abstract:We present a laser spectroscopic study of the Ã1Πu – X̃1Σg+ transition of 13C mono-substituted C3 in the 378–406 nm region. The 13C12C12C and 12C13C12C isotopologues are produced in a pulsed jet expansion, by DC discharging a gas mixture of ∼0.3% C2H2/Ar (with ∼1% 13C natural abundance). By using laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy, thirteen vibronic bands belonging to the Ã1Πu – X̃1Σg+ electronic transition have been recorded for 13C12C12C and 12C13C12C, eleven of which have not been reported before. The transitions cover the three fundamental vibrational modes (ν1,ν2l,ν3). For all the vibronic bands, the full width at half maximum of spectral lines is found to be narrower than 0.023 cm-1, allowing to determine the transition frequencies with an absolute accuracy of ∼0.003 cm-1. Moreover, rotational analyses of the high-resolution data have yielded accurate spectroscopic constants for the upper vibronic states studied here. The 100–000, 04+0–000 and 12−0–000 bands of 13C12C12C, and the 02+0–000 and 04−0–000 bands of 12C13C12C are found to be less blended by spectral features of 12C3, and thus may be used for astronomical searches of 13C12C12C and 12C13C12C in the space.

Abstract:We have observed laser emission from five SnII transitions (579.9, 645.4, 719.1, 1061, 1074 nm) and four infra-red SnI transitions (1193, 1302, 1346, 1361 nm) in a tin hollow cathode in which the tin vapor was entirely created by discharge sputtering. Laser action occurs in the afterglow stage of the discharge with the exception of the 645.4 nm SnII line which operates in CW mode. The inversion in the afterglow is believed to be created by a recombination and population redistribution mechanism induced by collisions of the tin ions with low energy electrons.
Soft x-ray Ar + 8 laser excited by low-voltage capillary discharge

Abstract:We demonstrated the operation of a 46.9-nm capillary discharge Ar + 8-laser excited by electrical pulses at a very low voltage (35 - 45 kV), which is approximately two times lower than previously reported. The decrease in pulse voltage not only allows for further reduction in the size of the laser's excitation part, but also a principal shift to the experimental methods, techniques, and technologies used in ordinary pulsed gas lasers operating in the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared regions of the spectra. In an argon-filled alumina capillary with an inner diameter of 3.1 mm and a length of 22 cm, laser pulses with an energy of 4 µJ and a duration of 1.6 ns were generated. The laser produces a beam with a Gaussian intensity distribution and an FWHM divergence of 1.9 mrad. The results could be particularly useful in the development of compact, practical soft x-ray capillary lasers for use in small laboratories at educational and research institutions.
Optical recording performance of In47Sb14Te39 phase change thin films using 514.5nm wavelength laser beam

Abstract:Optical absorption spectra of In47Sb14Te39 thin films prepared by D.C. magnetron sputtering method were studied. A comparatively large absorption has been observed in the wavelength region of 400-600nm which matches with the wavelength of argon laser. X-ray diffraction and DSC results indicate that the crystallization compounds include mainly In3SbTe2 with small amount of InTe, In2Te3. Optical recording test of the films show that larger reflectivity contrast can be obtained at lower argon laser (514.5nm) irradiation. The erasing contrast is comparatively lower but can be improved by multi-films match.

Abstract:We will present our recent work using noble and Raman-active gas-filled anti-resonant hollow-core fiber (ARHCF) technology. First, we will present the generation of supercontinuum spanning from 200 nm to 4000 nm based on nonlinear effects of soliton self-compression and phase-matched deep‑ultraviolet (DUV) dispersive wave (DW) emission in Argon (Ar)-filled ARHCFs pumped at 2.46 μm wavelength with 100 fs pulses and ~8μJ pulse energy. Then we will discuss our recent work on stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) effect in a hydrogen (H2)-filled ARHCF, to achieve near- and MIR Raman lasers. By employing the single-stage vibrational SRS effect, a 4.22 μm Raman laser line is directly converted from a linearly polarized 1.53 μm pump laser. A quantum efficiency as high as 74% was achieved, to yield 17.6 µJ pulse energy. The designed 4.22 μm wavelength is well overlapped with the strongest CO2 absorption, therefore constituting a promising way for CO2 detection. In addition, we report a multi-wavelength Raman laser based on the cascaded rotational SRS effect. Four Raman lines at 1683 nm, 1868 nm, 2100 nm, and 2400 nm are generated, with pulse energies as high as 18.25 µJ, 14.4 µJ, 14.1 µJ, and 8.2 µJ, respectively. The energy of these Raman lines can be controlled by tuning the H2 pressure from 1 bar to 20 bar.
