Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:Although the synthesis of allenes has made considerable progress, methods for tetrasubstituted allenes are still limited. In this paper, the CuBr2-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of Grignard reagents and propargylic ammonium salts in tetrahydrofuran at 60 degrees C under argon delivered tetrasubstituted allenes in good to excellent yields. The reaction is thought to proceed by an S(N)2' pathway.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed three-component reaction involving cyclic carbonates, elemental sulfur, and H-phosphonates is presented. It proceeds with excellent yields and provides an attractive approach for the construction of valuable trisubstituted allenyl phosphorothioates using a one-step strategy. Moreover, this method can be easily adapted to large-scale preparation.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed three-component reaction of cyclobutanone oxime esters and 1,3-enynes in the presence of TMSCN or TMSCF3 has been developed. This mild protocol enjoys a broad substrate scope tolerating many functional groups, providing a facile access to 1,7-double-functionalized allenes, which are difficult to prepare. The allenyl nitrile products may be easily transformed into allenoic acid derivatives and stereodefined tetrasubstituted alkenes, demonstrating their potentials as platform molecules in synthesis. Abstract:An efficient one-pot synthesis of trisubstituted allenes from readily available terminal alkynes and ketones is realized. A wide range of trisubstituted allenes may be synthesized efficiently via this method. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that CuI and Ti(OEt)4 are in charge of the formation of propargylic amine, while ZnBr2 is responsible for the transformation from propargylic amine to allene.

Abstract:A gentle and effective method for the photocatalytic dual functionalization of allenes with high regio- and stereoselectivity using a nonmetallic catalyst is described. Inexpensive and easily available sulfinates and TMSN3 were employed as sulfone and azido sources, respectively. The method is characterized by satisfactory substrate compatibility and tolerance toward functional groups. The straightforward initial mechanistic experiments suggested that the reaction could follow a radical pathway. The synthesis of vinylsulfone azide derivatives presented here offers a promising scaffold for the future development of vinyl sulfone-based drugs and functional bioorthogonal reagents.

Abstract:A hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP)-catalyzed difluoroalkylation of propargylic alcohols with difluoroenoxysilanes to access structurally diverse tetrasubstituted difluoroalkyl allenes has been developed. This convenient procedure enables the rapid construction of highly functionalized multisubstituted fluorinated allenes in a mild and straightforward way. Furthermore, the synthetic potential of this methodology has been demonstrated by the facile synthesis of various structurally interesting fluorine-containing molecules such as gem-difluorosubstituted dihydropyran, tetrasubstituted CF2H-allene, and multisubstituted fluorinated cyclopentanone derivatives.

Abstract:Zinc diiodide has been identified as an effective reagent for the efficient synthesis of trisubstituted allenes from propargylic amines. Compared to CdI2 this protocol offers a green approach. Due to the easy preparation of propargylic amines through the method developed by this group, this method provides a two-step synthesis of trisubstituted allenes from 1-alkynes, ketones, and pyrrolidine. Finally, an efficient synthesis of such trisubstituted allenes from 1-alkynes, ketones, and pyrrolidine via simple filtration has been developed. Compared with the CdI2-mediated protocol, the current protocol enjoys a much wider scope for ketones and affords functionalized allenes without further cyclization in some substrates.

Abstract:The cadmium iodide‐mediated reaction between an amine and two molecules of terminal alkynes for the synthesis of allenes has been investigated by using DFT calculations. On the basis of these calculations, a plausible mechanism has been proposed. The results also reveal that pyrrolidine serves not only as a reactant but also as a shuttle in a proton relay.

Abstract:A novel methodology for the synthesis of trisubstituted allenes is reported. Lithiation of 1-aryl-3-alkylpropadienes and subsequent transmetalation with zinc bromide followed by Pd-catalyzed Negishi coupling reactions with halides afforded the corresponding trisubstituted allenes in a highly regioselective fashion with moderate to excellent yields. A plausible regioselective lithiation mechanism was proposed on the basis of deuterium labeling experiments.

Abstract:A divergent synthesis of thioether-functionalized trifluoromethyl-alkynes, 1,3-dienes and allenes via regioselective nucleophilic addition of sulfur nucleophiles to 2-trifluoromethyl-1,3-conjugated enynes was developed. The addition patterns depend on the type of enyne, sulfur nucleophile and reaction conditions used. 1,4-Addition leading to thioether-functionalized trifluoromethyl-allenes was realized when enynes possessing electron-withdrawing aryl groups on the alkyne moiety were used as reaction partners and alkanethiols were used as nucleophiles, whereas solvent-controlled construction of thioether-functionalized 1,3-dienes and alkynes was realized, respectively, via a 3,4-addition pattern or 1,2-addition pattern if thiophenols were applied as nucleophiles. The three types of compounds containing both sulfur and fluorine elements are valuable building blocks for synthesis of multifunctional fluorinated vinyl sulfides and thiophene derivatives.

Abstract:The sequential treatment of terminal alkynes or propargylic alcohols with n-BuLi and MOMCl afforded the corresponding propargylic methyl ethers, which would react with primary alkyl Grignard reagents under the catalysis of CuBr to afford 3-substituted 1,2-allenes or 2-substituted secondary 2,3-allenols, respectively. The reaction may be applied to the synthesis of optically active 2-substituted secondary 2,3-allenols with up to >99% ee without any protection to the free hydroxyl group in the starting 4-hydroxy-2-alkynyl methyl ethers.

Abstract:A co-catalyst of (PPh3)AuCl/AgOTf for the intermolecular hydroamination of allenes with sulfonamides is shown.
