Abstract: We describe the proof that the period map from the Torelli space of Calabi-Yau manifolds to the classifying space of polarized Hodge structures is an embedding. The proof is based on the constructions of holomorphic affine structure on the Teichm\"uller space and Hodge metric completion of the Torelli space. A canonical global holomorphic section of the holomorphic $(n, 0)$ class on the Teichm\"uller space is constructed.

Abstract: We prove that the period map from the Torelli space of Calabi--Yau type manifolds to the period domain of polarized Hodge structures is injective. The proof is based on the construction of holomorphic affine structure on the Teichm\"uller space and the construction of the completion space of the Torelli space with respect to the Hodge metric.

Abstract:In this paper we describe some recent results on the geometry of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces. We surveyed new and classical metrics on the moduli spaces of hyperbolic Riemann surfaces and their geometric properties. We then discussed the Mumford goodness and generalized goodness of various metrics on the moduli spaces and their deformation invariance. By combining with the dual Nakano negativity of the Weil-Petersson metric we derive various consequences such that the infinitesimal rigidity, the Gauss-Bonnet theorem and the log Chern number computations.

Abstract:We introduce the notions of strong local Torelli and T-class for polarized manifolds, and prove that strong local Torelli implies global Torelli theorem on the Torelli spaces for polarized manifolds in the T-class. We discuss many new examples of projective manifolds for which such global Torelli theorem holds. As applications we prove that, in these cases, a canonical completion of the Torelli space is a bounded pseudoconvex domain in complex Euclidean space, and show that generic Torelli implies global Torelli on moduli space with certain level structure.

Abstract:Let Vn+1 be an (n + 1)-dimensional real vector space and (F) over tilde = (alpha) over tilde phi(s) s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be all (alpha, beta)-metric, where (alpha) over tilde is an Euclidean metric and (beta) over tilde is a one form. Minimal surfaces with respect to the Busemann-Hausdorff measure and the Holmes-Thompson measure are called BH-minimal and HT-minimal surfaces, respectively. We give a Bernstein type theorem for minimal graphs in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde) with n <= 7. Let (F) over tilde (b) = (alpha) over tilde phi(s), s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be a Minkowski metric with b := parallel to(beta) over tilde parallel to(alpha) over tilde. We use a PDE to characterize the BH-minimal and HT-minimal graph over any hyperplane containing the origin in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde (b)). Then we prove that this PDE is an elliptic equation of mean curvature type when b is an element of [0, is an element of) for sonic constant is an element of > 0 and give a Bernstein type theorem for BH-minimal surface in (V-3, (F) over tilde (b)). BH-minimal cones with an isolated singularity at the origin are also given.
The Geometry of Grassmannian Manifolds and Bernstein-Type Theorems for Higher Codimension

Abstract:This paper continues the line of research where one shows a Bernsteintype theorem, namely, that a complete minimal submanifold of a Euclidean space has to be affine linear, by proving that its Gauss map is constant. This Gauss map is a harmonic map into some Grassmann manifold. Therefore, we need geometric conditions on the target of the Gauss map which imply that, being harmonic, it has to be constant. For this purpose, we identify a region W 1/3 in a Grassmann manifoldG(n,m,) not covered by a usualmatrix coordinate chart, with the following important property. For a complete n-submanifold M of Rn+m with n >= 3, and m >= 2, with parallel mean curvature whose image under the Gauss map is contained in a compact subset K subset of W 1/3 subset of G(n,m), we can construct strongly subharmonic functions on M and derive a priori estimates for the harmonic Gauss map, to eventually show that it is constant. While we do not know yet how close our region is to being optimal in this respect, it is substantially larger than what could be achieved previously with other methods. Consequently, this enables us to obtain substantially stronger Bernstein-type theorems in higher codimension than previously known. We also provide some new explicit computations for the example of Lawson and Osserman [18].

Abstract:Combining the tools of geometric analysis with properties of Jordan angles and angle space distributions, we derive a spherical and a Euclidean Bernstein theorem for minimal submanifolds of arbitrary dimension and codimension, under the condition that the Gauss image is contained in some geometrically defined closed region of a Grassmannian manifold. The proof depends on the subharmoncity of an auxiliary function, the Codazzi equations and geometric measure theory.

Abstract:Under suitable conditions on the range of the Gauss map of a complete submanifold of Euclidean space with parallel mean curvature, we construct a strongly subharmonic function and derive a-priori estimates for the harmonic Gauss map. The required conditions here are more general than in previous work and they therefore enable us to improve substantially previous results for the Lawson–Osseman problem concerning the regularity of minimal submanifolds in higher codimension and to derive Bernstein type results.

Abstract:For entire spacelike stationary 2-dimensional graphs in Minkowski spaces, we establish Bernstein type theorems under specific boundedness assumptions either on the W-function or on the total (Gaussian) curvature. These conclusions imply the classical Bernstein theorem for minimal surfaces in 3-dimensional Euclidean space and Calabi's theorem for spacelike maximal surfaces in 3-dimensional Minkowski space.

Abstract:The geometry of submanifolds is intimately related to the theory of functions and vector bundles. It has been of fundamental importance to find out how those two objects interact in many geometric and physical problems. A typical example of this relation is that the Picard group of line bundles on an algebraic manifold is isomorphic to the group of divisors, which is generated by holomorphic hypersurfaces modulo linear equivalence. A similar correspondence can be made between the K-group of sheaves and the Chow ring of holomorphic cycles. There are two more very recent examples of such a relation. The mirror symmetry in string theory has revealed a deeper phenomenon involving special Lagrangian cycles (cf. [SYZ]). On the other hand, C. Taubes has shown that the Seiberg-Witten invariant coincides with the Gromov-Witten invariant on any symplectic 4-manifolds. In this paper, we will show another natural interaction between Yang-Mills connections, which are critical points of a Yang-Mills action associated to a vector bundle, and minimal submanifolds, which have been studied extensively for years in classical differential geometry and the calculus of variations.

Abstract:We extend the vanishing and sphere theorems due to Lawson, Simons, Xin, Shiohama and Xu. By using the techniques of calculus of variations in the geometric measure theory, we prove the vanishing theorem for homology groups of submanifolds in the hyperbolic space H-n(c) with negative constant curvature c. Moreover, we obtain a topological sphere theorem for certain complete submanifolds in H-n(c).

Abstract:A number of geometric problems, including affine hyperbolic spheres, Hilbert metrics and Minkowski type problems, are reduced to a singular Monge-Ampère equation which can be written locally as a class of Monge-Ampère equations with singularity at boundary. We estimate the boundary derivatives of all orders for the solutions to the class of singular equations as possible as optimal and prove that the solution to the equation is globally analytic if the dimension of the space is even. As a corollary, we obtain the global analyticity of affine hyperbolic spheres in the even dimensional space.

Abstract:fundamental result in global analysis and nonlinear elasticity asserts that given a solution $\mathfrak{S}$ to the Gauss--Codazzi--Ricci equations over a simply-connected closed manifold $(\mathcal{M}^n,g)$, one may find an isometric immersion $\iota$ of $(\mathcal{M}^n,g)$ into the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+k}$ whose extrinsic geometry coincides with $\mathfrak{S}$. Here the dimension $n$ and the codimension $k$ are arbitrary. Abundant literature has been devoted to relaxing the regularity assumptions on $\mathfrak{S}$ and $\iota$. The best result up to date is $\mathfrak{S} \in L^p$ and $\iota \in W^{2,p}$ for $p>n \geq 3$ or $p=n=2$. In this paper, we extend the above result to $\iota \in \mathcal{X}$ whose topology is strictly weaker than $W^{2,n}$ for $n \geq 3$. Indeed, $\mathcal{X}$ is the weak Morrey space $L^{p, n-p}_{2,w}$ with arbitrary $p \in ]2,n]$. This appears to be first supercritical result in the literature on the existence of isometric immersions with low regularity, given the solubility of the Gauss--Codazzi--Ricci equations. Our proof essentially utilises the theory of Uhlenbeck gauges -- in particular, Rivière--Struwe's work [Partial regularity for harmonic maps and related problems, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 61 (2008)] on harmonic maps in arbitrary dimensions and codimensions -- and compensated compactness.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the differential topological properties of a large class of singular spaces: subcarteisan space. First, a minor further result on the partition of unity for differential spaces is derived. Second, the tubular neighborhood theorem for subcartesian spaces with constant structural dimensions is established. Third, the concept of Morse functions on smooth manifolds is generalized to differential spaces. For subcartesian space with constant structural dimension, a class of examples of Morse functions is provided. With the assumption that the subcartesian space can be embedded as a bounded subset of an Euclidean space, it is proved that any smooth bounded function on this space can be approximated by Morse functions. The infinitesimal stability of Morse functions on subcartesian spaces is studied. Classical results on Morse functions on smooth manifolds can be treated directly as corollaries of our results here.

Abstract:In this paper, we are able to prove an analogy of the Calabi-Yau theorem for complete Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature which are aspherical at infinity. The key tool is an existence result for arbitrarily large bounded regions with weakly mean-concave boundary in Riemannian manifolds with sublinear volume growth. As an application, we use the same tool to show that a complete contractible Riemannian $3$-manifold with positive scalar curvature and sublinear volume growth is necessarily homeomorphic to $\mathbb R^3$.

Abstract:We introduce the space of mixed-volume forms endowed with an $L^2$ metric on a balanced manifold. A geodesic equation can be derived in this space that has an interesting structure and extends the equation of Donaldson \cite{Donaldson10} and Chen-He \cite{CH11} in the space of volume forms on a Riemannian manifold. This nonlinear PDE is studied in detail and the existence of weak solution is shown for the Dirichlet problem, under a positivity assumption. Later we study the Calabi-Yau equation for balanced metrics and introduce a geometric criteria for prescribing volume forms that is closely related to the positivity assumption above. We call this assumption the sub-Astheno-Kähler condition. By deriving $C^0$ a priori estimates, we show that the existence of solutions can be established on all sub-Astheno-Kähler manifolds.
