The Demarcation Between Science and Philosophy in the View of Existential Philosophy: Jaspers’ Solution to the “Philosophy Crisis”

Abstract:In the view of existential philosophy, Jaspers dedicates himself to clarifying the relation between science and philosophy. He demarcates science and philosophy mainly from nine perspectives, including source, object, task, method, certainty, recognition, progress, communicative means and system. He claims that science is the basis and the tool of philosophy. Meanwhile, philosophy demonstrates its power under ì"the world orientationī", and then philosophy can be retrieved in "self forgetfulnessī". It is a worthwhile discussion for coping with the so-called ì"the forth philosophy crisisī".
