Tracing to the Source of the Dimidiate Motive View of Human Behavior——Two Kinds of Connotation Derived from Utilitarianism

Abstract:Modern mainstream economics usually takes economic man as a impassion individual who only cares about its own interest,while the early West society pays more attention to collective interest,and utilitarianism also origins from the concern of collective interests.However,just because there is some different meanings about the utilitarian goal of "the greatest happiness of most people",two different understanding of utilitarianism is derived from it: act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism.Obviously,these two different concepts of utilitarianism were accepted by the different branches of social science respectively,among which economics accepted the act utilitarian and paid much attention to the choice of means about behavior,which led to the assumption of economic man eventually.
