Abstract:The reaction of methylenecyclopropanes with diphenyl diselenide promoted by visible light was investigated and a series of 2,4-diphenylselenyl-1-butenes was prepared under mild conditions. Interestingly, with the addition of oxidant such as dibenzoyl peroxide, 1-(phenylselenyl)cyclobutanols were obtained.

Abstract:An efficient copper-catalyzed regio- and chemoselective multicomponent reaction of 1,6-enynes, diselenides, DABCO center dot(SO2)(2) and cycloketone oxime esters is described. Under mild conditions, this protocol exhibits a broad substrate scope and high functional group compatibility, enabling rapid access to cyanoalkylsulfonylated pyrrolidines in moderate to good yields. This radical-triggered cyclization reaction allows the formation of four new bonds including the C-SO2, C-C and C-Se bonds in a single step. A plausible mechanism is proposed on the basis of control experiments, and a cyanoalkylsulfonyl radical species is involved during the reaction process.

Abstract:Herein, a copper(I)-catalyzed asymmetric hydrophosphination of 3,3-disubstituted cyclopropenes is reported. It provides a series of phosphine derivatives in high to excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. The methodology enjoys broad substrate scope on both 3,3-disubstituted cyclopropenes and diarylphosphines. The high stereoselectivity is attributed to both the high stability of the Cu(I)-(R,R)-QUINOXP* complex in the presence of stoichiometric HPPh2 and the produced phosphines, and the high-performance asymmetric induction of the Cu(I)-(R,R)-QUINOXP* complex. Finally, the method is used for the synthesis of new chiral phosphine-olefin compounds built on a cyclopropane skeleton, one of which serves as a wonderful ligand in Rh-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition of phenylboronic acid to various α,β-unsaturated compounds.

Abstract:A series of chiral C2-symmetric bis(oxazoline) ligands containing dibenzo[a,c]cycloheptadiene units were synthesized. The copper complexes, prepared in situ from copper (I)-triflate and the new enantiopure oxazoline ligands, were assessed as chiral catalysts in the enantioselective cyclopropanation of styrene with diazoacetate. Enantioselectivities up to 82 and 62%, respectively, for trans- and cis-2-phenylcyclopropanecarboxylate were observed.

Abstract:In this protocol, copper-catalyzed diverse silylative carbocyclization reactions of 2,2′-diethynylbiaryl derivatives with silaboronate were reported. Three new and novel types of domino reactions for the copper-catalyzed transformation of silaboronate were discovered. Abstract:This study presents an approach for the electrochemical oxidation ring‐opening/ cyclization reaction of methylcyclopropane with diselenides/ditellurides, leading to the synthesis of diverse 2‐substituted‐3, 4‐dihydronaphthalene derivatives with exceptional selectivity and efficiency. This methodology involves C(sp3)‐H functionalization, ring opening, and cyclization processes. One characteristic of this method is its ability to accommodate a wide range of substrates with various functional groups.

Abstract:In this study, the direct copper-catalyzed C-S coupling reaction of heterocyclic compounds with diphenyl disulfide, without the existence of ligands and alkalis, has been developed. It showed that the yield of target product was 89.9% when the reaction was carried out at 110 degrees C, the reaction time was 12 h, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) was used as solvents, and the molar ratio of heterocyclic compound to biphenyl disulfide was 2 : 1. The structures of the target products were confirmed with H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR. The effects of various conditions on the reaction were investigated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis and its reaction mechanism was discussed.

Abstract:Cyclopropane-fused ring scaffold represents one of the most appealing structural motifs in organic chemistry due to their wide presence in bioactive molecules and versatility in organic synthesis. These skeletons are typically prepared from olefinic diazo compounds via transition-metal catalysed intramolecular carbenoid insertion, which suffers from prefunctionalization of starting materials and limited substrate scope. Herein, we disclosed a practical copper-mediated direct intramolecular cyclopropanation of distal olefinic acetate to synthesize cyclopropane-fused γ-lactones and lactams. This cascade reaction is postulated to proceed through a hydrogen atom transfer event induced radical cyclization and copper-mediated cyclopropanation sequence. The protocol features high atom- and step- economy, excellent diastereoselectivity, broad tolerance of functional groups, and operational simplicity.

Abstract:2-(Phenylthio)phenols were successfully synthesized from simple phenols and aromatic halides by using dimethyl sulfoxide as the oxidant. The transformation was accomplished via tandem copper(I)-catalyzed C-S coupling/C-H functionalization employing the CuI/L [L = (E)-3-(dimethylamino)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one] catalyst system. The mechanism of the reaction was elucidated based on an isotope labeling strategy.

Abstract:Phenyl or m-tolyl selenoamides reacted with functionalized alpha-haloacetic acid in 1 : 1 or I : 2 molar ratio with no catalyst in various alcohols to undergo a selenium transfer reaction. This reaction in different molar ratios furnished the same C-Se-Se-C coupling products with a special structure bis(alkoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenide. A new and facile method for synthesis of such bis(alkoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenides with the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high yields, easy availability of starting materials and good chemical selectivity was provided. In order to investigate the mechanism for this reaction, methyl a-bromoacetate or ethyl a-bromoacetate as starting material was added to the solution of phenyl selenoamide in ethanol in I : I or 2 : I molar ratio under the neutral condition at room temperature. The results indicated that the same product bis(methoxycarbonylmethyl) or bis(ethoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenide was formed. Byproduct ethyl benzoate was also separated. A mechanism for this C-Se-Se-C coupling reaction was proposed.

Abstract:While hexaphenylsilacyclopentadiene (hexaphenylsilole) is viewed as an archetypal Aggregation-Induced Emission (AIE) luminogen, its isostructural hydrocarbon surrogate hexaphenylcyclopentadiene has strikingly never been investigated in this context, most probably due to a lack of synthetic availability. Herein, we report a straightforward synthesis of hexaphenylcyclopentadiene, via the direct perarylation of cyclopentadiene upon copper(I) catalysis under microwave activation, with the formation of six new C-C bonds in a single synthetic operation. Using zirconocene dichloride as a convenient source of cyclopentadiene and a variety of aryl iodides as coupling partners, this copper-catalysed cross-coupling reaction gave rise to a series of unprecedented hexaarylcyclopentadienes. The latter are direct precursors of extended π-conjugated polycyclic compounds, and their cyclodehydrogenation under Scholl reaction conditions yielded helicenic 17,17-diarylcyclopenta[ l , l' ]diphenanthrenes. These structurally complex polyannelated fluorene derivatives can now be prepared in only two synthetic steps from cyclopentadiene.

Abstract:The activation of disulfides by Cu(II) salts has been realized, which triggers a highly efficient electrophilic sulfenoamination of alkenes under aerobic conditions. Various sulfenyl N-heterocycles and their Selena counterparts were produced regioselectively, with no competing disulfidation products detected. Mechanistic studies suggest a profound influence of the counterions on the Lewis acidic copper center, and the important roles of oxygen and DMSO as co-oxidants for these cyclization processes.
