Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Abstract:This paper addresses the issue of the homogenization of linear divergence form parabolic operators in situations where no ergodicity and no scale separation in time or space are available. Namely, we consider divergence form linear parabolic operators in $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with $L^\infty(\Omega \times (0,T))$-coefficients. It appears that the inverse operator maps the unit ball of $L^2(\Omega\times (0,T))$ into a space of functions which at small (time and space) scales are close in $H^1$ norm to a functional space of dimension $n$. It follows that once one has solved these equations at least $n$ times it is possible to homogenize them both in space and in time, reducing the number of operation counts necessary to obtain further solutions. In practice we show under a Cordes-type condition that the first order time derivatives and second order space derivatives of the solution of these operators with respect to caloric coordinates are in $L^2$ (instead of $H^{-1}$ with Euclidean coordinates). If the medium is time-independent, then it is sufficient to solve $n$ times the associated elliptic equation in order to homogenize the parabolic equation.

Abstract:We study a class of integral functionals for which the integrand f-epsilon(x, u, nabla u) is an oscillatory function of both x and u. Our method is based on the concept of GAMMA-convergence. Technical difficulties arise because f-epsilon(x, u, nabla u) is not convex or equi-continuous in u with respect to epsilon. Two somewhat different approaches, based respectively on abstract convergence theorems and the study of affine functions, are exploited together to overcome these technical difficulties. As an application, we give another proof of a homogenization result of P. L. Lions, G. Papanicolaou, and S. R. S. Varadhan for Hamilton-Jacobi equations.

Abstract:In this paper we shall prove the existence, uniqueness and global H$\ddot{o}$lder continuity for the Dirichlet problem of a class of Monge-Ampère type equations which may be degenerate and singular on the boundary of convex domains. We will establish a relation of the H$\ddot{o}$lder exponent for the solutions with the convexity for the domains.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the homogenization of a class of nonlinear nonlocal parabolic equations with time dependent coefficients in a periodic and stationary structure. In the first part, we consider the homogenization problem with a periodic structure. Inspired by the idea of Akagi and Oka for local nonlinear homogenization, by a change of unknown function, we transform the nonlinear nonlocal term in space into a linear nonlocal scaled diffusive term, while the corresponding linear time derivative term becomes a nonlinear one. By constructing some corrector functions, for different time scales and the nonlinear parameter , we obtain that the limit equation is a local nonlinear diffusion equation with coefficients depending on and . In addition, we also consider the homogenization of the nonlocal porous medium equation with non negative initial values and get similar homogenization results. In the second part, we consider the previous problem in a stationary environment and get some similar homogenization results. The novelty of this paper is two folds. First, for the determination equation with a periodic structure, our study complements the results in literature for and . Second, we consider the corresponding equation with a stationary structure.

Abstract:In L2(Rd) , we consider an elliptic differential operator Aε , ε>0 , of the form Aε=−div⁡g(x/ε)∇+ε−2V(x/ε) with periodic coefficients. For hyperbolic equations with the operator Aε , analogs of homogenization problems related to an arbitrary point of the dispersion relation of the operator A1 are studied (the so-called high-frequency homogenization). For the solutions of the Cauchy problems for these equations with special initial data, approximations in L2(Rd) -norm for small ε are obtained.

Abstract:This paper considers a family of second-order parabolic equations in divergence form with rapidly oscillating and time-dependent periodic coefficients and an interface between two periodic structures. Following a framework initiated by Blanc, Le Bris and Lions and a generalized two-scale expansion in divergence form of elliptic homogenization with an interface by Josien, we can determine the effective (or homogenized) equation with the coefficient matrix being piecewise constant and discontinuous across the interface. Moreover, we obtain the $O(\varepsilon)$ convergence rates in $L^{2(d+2)/{d}}_{x,t}$ with $\varepsilon$-smoothing method and the uniform interior Lipschitz estimates via compactness argument.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to prove the well-posedness (existence and uniqueness) of entropy solutions to the general anisotropic degenerate parabolic–hyperbolic equations with L∞ initial data and homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. We use the doubling variables device to prove a comparison theorem, which implies the uniqueness. The existence of entropy solutions can be obtained by finding the limit of solutions for the regularized equation of strictly parabolic type.

Abstract:The Functionalized Cahn-Hilliard equation has been proposed as a model for the interfacial energy of phase-separated mixtures of amphiphilic molecules. We study the existence of a nonnegative weak solutions of a gradient flow of the Functionalized Cahn-Hilliard equation subject to a degenerate mobility M(u) that is zero for u<=0. Assuming the initial data u0(x) is positive, we construct a weak solution as the limit of solutions corresponding to nondegenerate mobilities and verify that it satisfies an energy dissipation inequality.

Abstract:We consider the Cauchy-problem for a parabolic equation of the following type: \begin{equation*} \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}= \Delta u+ f(u,|x|), \end{equation*} where $f=f(u,|x|)$ is supercritical. We supply this equation by the initial condition $u(x,0)=\phi$, and we allow $\phi$ to be either bounded or unbounded in the origin but smaller than stationary singular solutions. We discuss local existence and long time behaviour for the solutions $u(t,x;\phi)$ for a wide class of non-homogeneous non-linearities $f$. We show that in the supercritical case, Ground States with slow decay lie on the threshold between blowing up initial data and the basin of attraction of the null solution. Our results extend previous ones allowing Matukuma-type potential and more generic dependence on $u$. Then, we further explore such a threshold in the subcritical case too. We find two families of initial data $\zeta(x)$ and $\psi(x)$ which are respectively above and below the threshold, and have arbitrarily small distance in $L^{\infty}$ norm, whose existence is new even for $f(u,r)=u^{q-1}$. Quite surprisingly both $\zeta(x)$ and $\psi(x)$ have fast decay (i.e. $\sim |x|^{2-n}$), while the expected critical asymptotic behavior is slow decay (i.e. $\sim |x|^{2/q-2}$).

Abstract:The study of homogenization results has long been a central focus in the field of mathematical analysis, particularly for equations without lower-order terms. However, the importance of studying homogenization results for parabolic equations with lower-order terms cannot be understated. In this study, we aim to extend the analysis to homogenization for the general parabolic equation with random coefficients: \begin{equation*} \partial_{t}p^\epsilon-\nabla\cdot\left(\mathbf{a}\left( \dfrac{x}{\epsilon},\dfrac{t}{\epsilon^2}\right)\nabla p^\epsilon\right)-\mathbf{b}\left( \dfrac{x}{\epsilon},\dfrac{t}{\epsilon^2}\right)\nabla p^\epsilon -\mathbf{d}\left( \dfrac{x}{\epsilon},\dfrac{t}{\epsilon^2}\right) p^\epsilon=0. \end{equation*} Moreover, we establish the Caccioppoli inequality and Meyers estimate for the generalized parabolic equation. By using the generalized Meyers estimate, we get the weak convergence of $p^\epsilon$ in $H^1$.

Abstract:This article studies the Cauchy problem for the evolution p-Laplacian equation ut−Δpu=λum+μ|∇u|qur in RN×(0,T). The local existence, global existence and nonexistence of solutions are investigated. In particular, for the case λ>0 and μ>0, we obtain an optimal Fujita-type result, which demonstrates the positive gradient term brings about the discontinuity phenomenon of the critical exponent. For the case λ>0 and μ<0, the existence and nonexistence of global solutions are also discussed.
