Abstract:Chemical investigation on the ethyl acetate extract of the roots of Hedysarum multijugum resulted in the isolation of two new prenylated isoflavonoids: 5, 7, 2′-trihydroxy-4′-methoxy-3′-(γ, γ-dimethylallyl) isoflavone (hedysarimisoflavone A, 1) and 5, 7, 2′-trihydroxy-4′-methoxy-6, 8-di-(γ, γ-dimethylallyl) isoflavone (hedysarimisoflavone B, 2). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses, especially, 1H and 13C NMR spectra in conjunction with their 2D experiments, 1H-1H COSY, HMQC, HMBC, and NOESY.

Abstract:From the fruits of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. a new beta-dihydroagarofuran sesquiterpene ester named 1beta,2beta,13-triacetoxy-9alpha-cinnamoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (1) has been isolated along with two known compounds, 6alpha-acetoxy-1beta, 9beta-dibenzoyloxy-8beta-hydroxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (2), and 1beta, 6alpha-diacetoxy-9beta-benzoyloxy-8beta-hydroxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran ( 3). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data.

Abstract:Two new eudesmane sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. The structures were established based on the interpretation of high-resolution MS and 1D- and 2D-NMR data, the absolute configuration of compound 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The new compounds were elucidated as (1βH, 3βH, 5βH, 7αH)-4α, 10α-dimethyl-7β-isopropyl-1α, 3α, 4β, 11-tetrahydroxy decahydronaphthalene (1) and (1βH, 3βH, 5βH, 7αH)-4α, 10α-dimethyl-7β-isopropyl-1α, 3α, 4β-trihydroxy decahydronaphthalene-11-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (2). The compound 1 showed significant antioxidant activity.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of the roots of Hedysarum multijugum Maxim.METHODS:Compounds were isolated and purified by solvent and column chromatographic methods, and their structures were determined on the basis of physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic data.RESULTS:Seven compounds warangalone-4'-methyl ether (1), afrormosin (2), sissotrin (3) and ononin (4), naringenin-5, 7-di-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (5), apigenin (6) and narcissin (7) were obtained from the roots of Hedysarum multijugum.CONCLUSION:Compound 1 is a new natural product, and other compounds; are obtained from the plant for the first time.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents from the root of Hedysarum multijugum.METHOD:The compounds were separated by chromatographic methods, their structures were identified by spectral analysis.RESULT:Four compounds were isolated and identified as soyasaponin II methyl ester (1), soyasaponin II (2), soyasaponin Bg (3), and soyasaponin I (4).CONCLUSION:The four compounds were obtained from the plant for the first time. Compound 3 was isolated from the genus Hedysarum for the first time, and the NMR data of 3 was reported for the first time.

Abstract:Aim To study the chemical constituents of Hedysarum gmelinii. Methods The constituents were separated and purified by different methods of chromatography, and their structures were elucidated by IR, MS and NMR. Results Eight compounds were isolated from Hedysarum gmelinii, including three triterpenoids, two flavonoids and two other compounds. Their structures were identified as squasapogenol (1), soyasapogenol (2), lupeol (3), 3, 9-dihydroxy coumestan (4), 3-hydroxy-9-methoxy pterocarpan (5), β-sitosterol (6), palmatic acid (7), and hexadecanoic acid 2, 3-dihydroxypropyl ester (8). Conclusion All the compounds have been isolated from this plant for the first time. Compounds 1-4 and 8 were obtained from this genus for the first time. The NMR data of 1 are reported for the first time.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of Hedysarum polybotrys.METHOD:Chromatographic methods were used to isolate compounds from H. polybotrys and chemical and spectral methods were used to elucidate the structures of the isolated compounds.RESULT:Five compounds, N,N,N-trimethyl-tropaphone inner salt (hypaphorine) (1), octadecyl-3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-benzeneacrylate (2), 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-dihydroflavanone 5,7-di-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), 3,4,5-trimethoxy cinnamic acid methy ester (4) and vanillic acid (5), were isolated from the roots of H. polybotrys.CONCLUSION:Compounds 1, 2 and 3 were obtained from this plant for the first time, while compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from Hedysarum for the first time.

Abstract:In combination with phytochemical results, the pilot chemotaxonomy study on genus Hedysarum by using HPLC methods revealed differences between section Fruticosa and the three other sections Multicaulia, Obscura and Subacaulia, but there was a closer genetic relationship with Multicaulia and Subacaulia. Isoflavonoids and pterocarpans were proved to be the common constituents of genus Hedysarum, whereas pterocarpans, benzofurans, and coumestans were the characteristic constituents of section Fruticosa, and chalcones were the chemical markers of section Multicaulia and section Subacaulia. The present finding is consistent with the classical morphological classification of genus Hedysarum, and provides supporting evidences for dividing Hedysarum into two subgenera, i.e. subgenus Hedysara and subgenus Ruticosa.

Abstract:The present work constitutes a contribution to the phytochemical investigation of Hedysarum carnosum aiming to search for novel bioactives secondary metabolites. In this context, the fractionation of the butanolic extract of H. carnosum flowers afforded two new flavonoid glycosides quercetin 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside 1 and kaempferol 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside 2 together with a the known rutin 3 indicated for the first time in this species. Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic evidences (UV, HRMS and NMR) and comparison with literature. The fatty acid composition of the hexane extract of this species was also investigated by using GC–MS. The n-butanol extract and the isolates were assessed for their antioxidant potential using DPPH and ABTS+ scavenging assays and ferric reducing power (FRAP). The n-butanol extract and its fractions exhibited efficient radical scavenging activity with IC50 values ranging from 16 to 37 μg/mL for the DPPH assay. The obtained results suggest that the isolated compounds 1 and 3 could be promising antioxidant agents.

Abstract:Comprehensive Summary Chemical investigation of Hedyosmum orientale led to the identification of two terpenoid derivatives, dyosmunoids A and B (1 and 2) featuring two different 3/5/6/6/5‐fused pentacyclic ring systems, respectively. Compound 1 is the second natural product of this C25 terpenoid compound class, and compound 2 is a rare dinor‐C25 terpenoid with a peroxide bridge. Their structural elucidation was achieved by the comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data, single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, and ECD calculation. Putative biosynthetic pathways for compounds 1 and 2 are proposed. Compound 2 exhibited strong antimalarial activity with an IC50 value of 0.42 μM. This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. resulted in the isolation of a new sesquiterpene named as daucucarotol (1). Its structure was elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR experiments, coupled with MS studies. To our knowledge, compound 1 is the first example for a natural eudesmane sesquiterpene with a hydroxymethyl group located at a methine carbon rather than a usual quaternary carbon in the two fused six-membered ringsystems.

Abstract:Two new sesquiterpenoids, sarglanoids G and H (1 and 2), together with two known analogues (3-4) were isolated from the roots of Sarcandra glabra. Compound 2 was a rare elemene-type sesquiterpenoid with a furan ring fragment, which is mostly lactone ring in its analogues. The structures of new compounds were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic methods including HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR, and the absolute configuration of 1 was established by ECD calculations. Their anti-inflammatory activities were also evaluated.

Abstract:A new p-coumaroylated santalane-type sesquiterpenoid, 8-p-coumaroyl-α-santalene (1), a new p-coumaroylated oplopanane-type sesquiterpenoid, 8-β-p-coumaroyl-oplopanone (2), and three known p-coumaroylated humulene-type sesquiterpenoids (3-5) were isolated from the ethanol extract of the whole herbs of Pilea cavaleriei. Their structures were elucidated based on the combination of 1D and 2D NMR and HRMS methods. Compound 2 was found to show anti-tuberculosis activity with MIC of 16 μg/ml.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the aerial parts of Artemisia giraldii var.longipedunculata led to the isolation of 10 known sesquiterpenes,including 12-hydroxy-a-cyperone (1),1β,6a-dihydroxyeudesma-4(15)-ene (2),carainterol A (3),oplodiol (4),douglanin (5),1α-hydroxyisodauc-4-en-15-al (6),3α,6α-dihydroxybisabola-4,10-diene (7),4a,5β-dihydroxybisabola-2,10-diene (8),opposit-4(15)-ene-1β,7-diol (9),and saniculamoid D (10),respectively.Their structures were elucidated by analysis of the MS and NMR spectroscopic data and comparison with the literature.All the isolates were obtained from A.giraldii var.longipedunculata for the first time,and five of them were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time.Additionally,the 13C NMR data of 1 were fully assigned based on the 2D NMR data for the first time.
