Abstract:The catalytic phtodegradation of methyl orange(MO) with 365()nm irradiation on TiO_2 and(n(Ag)/)n(TiO_2) thin films is investigated in aqueous solution.With a silver loading ratio of n(Ag)/n(Ti)=0.064(in sol),73% enhancement of catalytic efficiency is observed.

Abstract:In order to approach the influence of TiO2configuration on photocatalysis,the photo-catalytic degradation process of methyl-orange by TiO2which was prepared by adsorption phase reaction technique and impregnation methods was studied.The influence of preparation conditions on the morphology and activity of TiO2was also investigated.After analyzing the reaction,it assumes that the diffusion and surface reaction are coupled.The controlling step depends on the activity of catalyst and the concentration of methyl-orange.It affects the apparent order of the reaction.After evaluating the activity of catalyst,it is deduced that the key factor affecting the photo-catalytic activity is the type of crystal of TiO2,secondly the content of Ti and diameter of the particles.The catalyst prepared by adsorption phase reaction technique has a larger content of Ti,smaller diameter,and can be better controlled,thereby better photo-catalytic.With the increasing of water content,the advantage of adsorption phase reaction technique is becoming more and more conspicuous.

Abstract:Highly ordered TiO2 nanorod (TNR) array films decorated with Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) by a hydrothermal treatment and a successive ionic layer adsorption reaction (SILAR) technique. The amount of Ag NPs on the TNR can be controlled by changing the number of cycles in silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution. The morphology, structure, composition, optical, photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic properties of the Ag/TNR films were investigated in detail. The Ag/TNR films exhibit larger redshift of the absorption edges and higher absorption intensities in the visible light range. Furthermore, the Ag/TNR films sensitized with 5 SILAR cycles show the best photocurrent density (32 mu A/cm(2)) and photodegradation efficiency (95.52%), which is 5.7 and 1.3 times higher than that of pure TNR, respectively. The excellent properties can be ascribed to localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of Ag NPs. The stability and reusability of the Ag/TNR films were also investigated. Therefore, the Ag/TNR films with high performance and stability can be used in potential applications. (C) 2016 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The novel few-layers MoS 2 sensitized Ag–TiO 2 were prepared through hydrothermal method, photoreduction method and spin-coating method, respectively. The microstructure, surface morphology, chemical composition and ultraviolet–visible absorbance of the samples were investigated systematically. The results indicated that the Ag nanoparticles and few-layers MoS 2 were deposited successfully on the surface of TiO 2 NRAs. The visible photocatalytic activity was estimated by degradation of methylene blue solution. The results indicated that the photocatalytic properties of MoS 2 /Ag–TiO 2 was larger than pure TiO 2 NRAs and Ag–TiO 2 . The significantly increased photocatalytic properties was attributed to the stronger visible light capture capability and the enhanced electron–hole pairs separation.
TiO2 Nanoparticles Supported on PMMA Nanofibers for Photocatalytic Degradation of Methyl Orange

Abstract:In this paper, a photocatalyst composed of TiO2 nanoparticles supported on the nanofibers of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was successfully prepared by hydrothermally treating the electrospun PMMA nanofibers containing titanium n-butoxide precursor at 135°C for 8h. As-prepared composite was characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction pattern, thermal gravimetric analysis and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area measurements. It is revealed that high content (42%) of tetragonal anatase TiO2 nanoparticles are uniformly loaded on the PMMA nanofibers to constitute the composite (TiO2@PMMA) photocatalyst with BET surface area of 21.4m2g−1. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2@PMMA towards the degradation of methyl orange (MO), a model pollutant, has been investigated. It is observed that 0.1g of the composite could degrade 100mL of MO (10mg/L) completely within 50min under UV illumination, exhibiting a high catalytic activity. Moreover, the composite could be easily separated from the reaction system by filtration, and maintain high photocatalytic activity in five consecutive cycles of the degradation of MO, suggesting its potentials in recycling use. The work provides a new approach for the development of novel supported photocatalysts with high catalytic activity and good reusability.

Abstract:A series of transition metal‐doped TiO2 was prepared by a simple sol‐solvothermal method. Ag−TiO2 was chosen for further study due to its extraordinary reactivity. Ag−TiO2 produces more ⋅O2− and ⋅OH under visible light, which are responsible for the oxidation of methyl orange to CO2 and H2O and other inorganic small molecules. In this study, a series of transition metal‐doped TiO2 was prepared by a simple sol‐solvothermal method. Mix an ethanol solution of tetrabutyl titanate and metal nitrate solution to obtain a homogeneous sol, which is then subjected to solvothermal treatment. After calcination, the metal‐TiO2 naoncomposite was obtained. Selected transition metal precursors, including Cu, Fe, Ag, Cr, Co and Zn, were doped into TiO2 nanocatalysts to assess photocatalytic degradation activities. The results show that 1 mol % Ag−TiO2 photocatalyst has a larger specific surface area, a stable anatase phase and the narrowest forbidden band energy (3.00 eV). In photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) tests, 1 mol % Ag−TiO2 could reach 100 % decolourisation after 70 min and 75.43 % mineralisation after 90 min. ESR analysis confirmed that Ag doping significantly increased the content of ⋅O2− and ⋅OH for the TiO2 catalyst, which are responsible for the oxidation reactions and consequently degradation of pollutants. The photocatalytic degradation mechanism of MO was also proposed. The TOC analyses confirmed the mineralization of MO. The excellent thermal and chemical stability of 1 mol % Ag−TiO2 has also been demonstrated by thermogravimetric analysis and cycling experiments. Electrochemical tests have also demonstrated the excellent electrochemical properties of 1 mol % Ag−TiO2.

The Impact of Silver Modification on the Catalytic Activity of Iodine-Doped Titania for P-Chlorophenol Degradation under Visible-Light Irradiation

Abstract:Iodine-doped titania photocatalysts (I-TiO2) were improved by doping the catalysts with different contents of silver (Ag-I-TiO2) to investigate the effect of silver modification on the structure and activity of the photocatalysts. The chemical and physical properties of the catalysts were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction pattern (SAED), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra. The impact of silver modification on the photocatalytic activity was investigated via the photodegradation of p-chlorophenol (PCP) under visible-light irradiation. The significant enhancement of PCP degradation using Ag-I-TiO2, with an optimum silver content of 3% can be ascribed to the fact that the doped silver trapped photogenerated electrons and promoted the formation of Ti3+ and, hence, the inhibition of the recombination of electron–hole pairs. The probable pathway of PCP mineralization was mainly a surface charge process, caused by adsorbed OH radicals (OHads), valence band holes (hvb+) and electrons (ecb−), which was verified by studying the effects of scavengers and nitrogen purging.
Photocatalytic Degradation of Methyl Orange by Using Different Shape-controlled TiO2 Micro-crystals

Abstract:Different shape-controlled TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared from titanium butoxide and titanium chloride precursors through the sol-gel method and using sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(DBS),sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose(HPMCS) as shape-controlled agent.The photocatclytic activity of the shape-controlled TiO2 micro-crystals was also investigated using methyl orange(MO) as model compound.The XRD results indicated that the TiO2 micro-crystals obtained at the anealling temperature of 500 ℃ were composed of the anatase crystalline phase.The UV vis absorption spectra suggested that the shape-controlled TiO2 micro-crystals showed a red shift and a lower band gap energy.The cubic TiO2 micro-crystals shaped by DBS had a higher photocatclytic activity than other samples.TiO2 micro-crystals calcined at 600 ℃ showed the highest photocatclytic activity with the highest decomposition rate of MO.

Abstract:Natural mordenite, replacing the synthetic zeolites, has been employed as the support of TiO2, and its photocatalytic activity has been examined in methyl orange (MO) aqueous under UV light. AFM, TEM, XRD, FTIR and fluorescence spectra have been used to reveal the loading effects of TiO2 on mordenite. The results show that the photocatalytic degradation (PCD) reaction rates are sharply increased by natural zeolite supports. Since mordenite is photo-inert, the PCD-enhancement is mostly caused by the bonding effects of Ti–O–Si and Ti–O–Al. Moreover, another two distinct natural zeolites have been employed as the supports of TiO2, in order to check the universality of PCD-enhancement effect of natural zeolites on TiO2. And the factors of PCD reaction on TiO2–zeolite, such as pH and catalyst dose, have been investigated.
Silver-surface-loaded ferroelectric barium titanate and its photocatalytic activity

Abstract:Silver nanoparticles were photodeposited onto the surface of ferroelectric barium ti-tanate.The microstructure and photocatalytic properties of the obtained photocatalysts were investigated by using XRD、SEM/EDX、TEM、XPS and UV-Vis spectroscopy.With increas-ing the photodeposition time,the size and amount of surface-loaded silver nanoparticles in-crease as well.The highest photodegradation rate of Rhodamine B was obtained in Ag-BTO-30s,where the silver particle size was roughly 5 nm.Its photodegradation rate was about 7.5 times that of BTO.This improved photocatalytic activity was attributed to the electron-trap roles of noble metal silver and the enhanced absorption in the visible-light range arising from surface plasmon resonance.Finally,the critical role of OH· in photodegradation was verified by the significantly decreased photodegradation after the addition of ethanol which is consid-ered as a O H · scavenger.
Enhanced Visible-Light Photocatalysis Activity of TiO2/Ag Nanocomposites Prepared by the Ultrasound-Assisted Sol–Gel Method: Characterization and Degradation–Mineralization of Cationic and Anionic Dyes

Abstract:Coupling TiO2 with various elements could enhance its photocatalytic activity. In this study, an innovative ultrasound-assisted sol–gel method was used to synthesize TiO2/Ag(x%) by varying Ag–support mass (x = 9.3, 17.1, and 23.6%), followed by calcination at 450 °C for 30 min. The aim was to demonstrate that Ag compositing improves photoactivity under visible light (>400 nm). The synthesized photocatalysts were assessed for their effectiveness in the degradation and mineralization of Methylene Blue (MB) and Acid Orange 7 (AO7) using visible lamps emitting in the range of 400–800 nm. Characterization of the prepared photocatalysts was performed by using Raman spectroscopy, SEM/EDS, pHpzc, and UV–visible spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the predominance of the anatase phase in all the photocatalysts. The photodegradation efficiencies of the selected dyes, MB and AO7, reached 99% (pH 6) and 95% (pH 3) after 180 min of irradiation, respectively. The best performance for the degradation of the two dyes was observed with TiO2/Ag9.3%, showing optimal kinetics at this doping concentration. The improved photoactivity of the TiO2/Ag composite is due to a decrease in the recombination rate of electron/hole (e−/h+) and a decrease in the band gap from 3.13 to 2.49 eV. The mineralization rate of both dyes under visible light is about 9.3%, indicating the presence of refractory by-products that resist complete degradation. Under UVA irradiation, complete mineralization is obtained. This study confirms the potential of TiO2/Ag composite as a high-performance and cost-effective photocatalyst for solar environmental remediation, highlighting the role of silver in extending light absorption into the visible region and improving charge separation.

Abstract:By controlling the initial concentration of Ti4+, neutralization quantity of ammonia, sulfate ions and hydrolytic temperature, the preparation and properties of the TiCl4-derived TiO2 nano-crystalline photocatalysts were investigated in detail. As-prepared powder was amorphous at 95 degreesC and anatase nano-sized powder with 10 nmsimilar to30 nm grain size was produced after calcining at 600 degreesC. Quantum-sized effects were observed by using UV-VIS absorption spectra in small titanium dioxide particles with 10 nm primary particle size. Nanosized TiO2 powders synthesized with different process conditions were found to show a rather large diversity in the photodegradation of methyl orange irradiated by black light lamp. An optimal TiO2 product exhibited a maximum degradation ratio with 0.3 mol/L initial concentration of Ti4+ and 2 pH value of precursor solution by addition ammonia. Moreover, "peak drifting "phenomenon of lambda(max) in UV-VIS absorption spectra of methyl orange occurred during reaction proceeding.
High performance photocatalyst TiO2@UiO-66 applied to degradation of methyl orange

Abstract:MOFs have considerable adsorption capacity due to their huge specific surface area. They have the characteristics of photocatalysts for their organic ligands can absorb photons and produce electrons. In this paper, the photodegradation properties of TiO2 composites loaded with UiO-66 were investigated for the first time for MO. A series of TiO2@UiO-66 composites with different contents of TiO2 were prepared by a solvothermal method. The photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) was performed using a high-pressure mercury lamp as the UV light source. The effects of TiO2 loading, catalyst dosage, pH value, and MO concentration were investigated. The results showed that the degradation of MO by TiO2@UiO-66 could reach 97.59% with the addition of only a small amount of TiO2 (5 wt%). TiO2@UiO-66 exhibited significantly enhanced photoelectron transfer capability and inhibited efficient electron-hole recombination compared to pure TiO2 in MO degradation. The composite catalyst indicated good stability and reusability when they were recycled three times, and the photocatalytic reaction efficiencies were 92.54%, 88.76%, and 86.90%. The results provide a new option to design stable, high-efficiency MOF-based photocatalysts.

Abstract:This study is designed to highlight photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanoparticles in methyl orange (MO) dye degradation. Titanium dioxide TiO2 nanopowder was synthesized by conventional sol-gel method and calcined in air atmosphere at different temperatures 350C, 550C and 850C. The prepared TiO2 nanoparticles then were subjected to a solid state reaction with calcium hydride (CaH2) at the same temperatures but calcined in argon atmosphere. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) measurements used for phase and crystalline size identification showed that the obtained samples have the same TiO2 anatase phase, but the crystalline size decreased after reduction treatment. The electronic properties obtained via UV spectroscopy showed the decrease in calculated energy gap from 3.3 eV for prepared TiO2-550 to 2.65 eV for reduced TiO2-CaH2-550, which extend the absorption spectra toward visible light region. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements revealed that the particle size decreased after reduction treatment similar to the XRD crystalline size. EDS results indicated that the deficient in oxygen content relates to formation oxygen vacancies responsible for nonstoichiometric TiO2-x oxides formation. The synthesized reduced TiO2 showed an excellent photo-catalytic activity in methyl orange dye degradation under optimum condition: pH 4.5, 40 mg catalyst loading and 10 ppm initial dye concentration.

Abstract:Ag-TiO2/Montmorillonite (Ag-TiO2/MMT) was synthesized as photocatalyst using TiCl4 hydrolysis to introduce nanosized TiO2 into the interlayer space of the montmorillonite (MMT).'Stable pillared TiO2/MMT was obtained by calcination at 500 degrees C, then silver was loaded by reduction of silver nitrate. The physico-chemical properties of the photocatalyst were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS), nitrogen gas adsorption (BET method) and UV-Visible spectra. The photooxidation activity for methylene blue (M. B.) degradation was as follows: Ag-TiO2/MMT > TiO2/ MMT > TiO2(P25). Among them Ag-TiO2/MMT had the highest photooxidation activity because of its larger specific surface caused by pillaring and loading of silver for improving its light absorption. Study on Photocatalytic Degradation of Azo Dye over Silver-Modified TiO2/SiO2 Particles under Visible Light Irradiation

Abstract:A set of silver-modified TiO_2/SiO_2 catalysts prepared in different conditions are used to degrade an azo dye.AO7 under visible light irradiation.Silver modified TiO_2/SiO_2 catalysts are characterized by XRD,SEM and BET.The results indicate that doping Ag~+ has negligible effect on the photoactivity of TiO_2/SiO_2,while the photoactivity of Ag~0 photodeposited TiO_2/SiO_2 is much higher than that of TiO_2/SiO_2 alone.The photodegradation rate of AO7 depends on the amount of photodeposited Ag~0,and TiO_2/SiO_2 loaded with 1mol%Ag~0 reveals the highest level of activity. The results are explained on the basis of a mechanism involving efficient separation of electron/cationic dye radical pairs induced by Ag~0 in TiO_2/vis system.

Abstract:Au/TiO2 nanotubes catalyst was successfully synthetized through the calcination of TiO2 with HAuCl4. The Au nanoparticles were formed both on internal and external walls of TiO2 nanotubes. The degradation of methyl orange (MO) was used as a model reaction to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of the obtained catalyst. It was found that the degradation ratio of Au/TiO2 nanotubes hybrids was improved as compared with that of pure TiO2 nanotubes. Moreover, it turned out that different ratios of Au/TiO2 influenced the degradation activity and the TiO2 nanotubes modified with 0.02M HAuCl4 aqueous solution exhibited the best performance.

Abstract:Ag-TiO 2 /SiO 2 materials were synthesized with 1, 3, 5, and 10 wt% Ag contents and extensively characterized by different techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, BET, UV–VIS, EPR, and PL spectroscopy. Subsequently, the activity of these materials in the degradation of a model volatile organic compound ( n -hexane) was compared by testing in a continuous gas–solid photoreactor. Loading with Ag induced stabilization of the brookite phase and crystal growth. TEM images showed d-spacing values corresponding to anatase and metallic silver. The specific surface area was lower in the Ag-modified catalysts, probably due to the blocking of the silica gel pores by Ag nanoparticles, whose size (~ 20 nm) was larger than the silica pores (~ 1.98 nm). SEM–EDS images showed heterogeneous distribution of Ag on the surface of the materials. XPS spectra showed bands referring to Ag + and Ag 0 3d, and Ti 4+ and Ti 3+ 2p. EPR analyses showed that silver loading of TiO 2 /SiO 2 greatly increased the occurrence of oxygen vacancies in the material. Finally, the band gap energies calculated from the UV–VIS spectra were lower in the silver-containing catalysts, dropping from 3.25 to 3.17 eV in the optimal material. Under visible light, while TiO 2 /SiO 2 showed no photoactivity, the Ag-modified materials presented satisfactory steady-state performance (46.4% n -hexane removal).

Abstract:The Ag/TiO2 photocatalyst with varying Ag loadings was prepared by the photodeposition method and its photocatalytic activity was tested using phenol degradation as the model reaction. Transmission electron microscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) were used to observe the distribution and size of silver clusters on the TiO2 surface and to determine the optical characteristics of Ag/TiO2, respectively. The results showed that a suitable Ag loading could greatly enhance the TiO2 photocatalytic activity. Ag clusters were formed on the TiO2 surface and the size of Ag clusters increased with the increase in Ag loading. The DRS results indicated that silver deposition had no effect on the optical characteristics of the catalyst lit the UV region. The relationship between the Ag loading and the photocatalytic activity of Ag/TiO2 was discussed.

Abstract:For the first time, we photo-fixed silver ions (10–2, 10–3, and 10–4 M) onto films prepared from commercial TiO2 powder via ultraviolet illumination. The synthesis process is straightforward and environmentally friendly. The nanostructures are characterized by SEM, XRD, FAAS, and UV/Vis spectroscopy for the photocatalytic properties. The X-ray diffraction pattern demonstrated the phase of the anatase TiO2 structure. Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry is used as a simple way to determine the Ag+ content in solutions from the heterogeneous photocatalysis under UV illumination. The research shows that at the end of the degradation process, no silver ions are observed for both dyes – malachite green and methylene blue. The formation of stable intermediates by the reaction of OH with the triarylmethane dye during the photocatalysis resulted in faster degradation of malachite green than methylene blue. In comparison to pure TiO2, the TiO2/Ag films have higher photocatalytic efficiency. The reason is the presence of silver, which leads to a decrease in the recombination of pairs of charges.
