Study of Aanesthesia Machine Circuit Contamination and Disinfection Method in 10 Shanghai Hospitals

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To evaluate the contamination of internal circuits of anesthesia machines in Shanghai general hospitals,and to evaluate the disinfection efficacy of Yuan Shan Brand disinfection machine.METHODS 121 sets of anesthesia machines from 10 general hospitals were enrolled in the study.The inner surfaces of import and export circuits were sampled to evaluate the contamination.12 sets of anesthesia machine were used to measure bactericidal rate for internal circuits with disinfection machine.RESULTS Some internal circuits of anesthesia machine had massive contamination,4 of which yielded growth in excess of 104 bacteria per cm2,and 12 of which had isolated mold.The bactericidal rate of disinfection machine was 94.3±9.3%.CONCLUSIONS Some investigated hospitals have high-level contamination of bacteria in internal circuits of anesthesia machine.Use of disinfection machine can benefit the infection control of anesthesia patients.
