High-Quality Development and Common Prosperity:Theoretical Logic and Practical Path

Abstract:Since the latter part of the 1970s, Western capitalist nations have become ensnared in the dilemma of neoliberalism and the welfare state, resulting in a deteriorating mechanism for income distribution and a weakening of economic growth.This has led to a stark polarization between the wealthy and the poor, which is not simply a consequence of imbalanced and insufficient development, but rather a challenge that must be addressed during the pursuit of high-quality development.The concept of common prosperity is a crucial aspect of socialism with Chinese characteristics and high-quality development is centered on the well-being of the people, promoting the seamless integration of production and distribution to attain common prosperity.However, several obstacles remain, including platform monopolies, the digital divide, underdeveloped agriculture and rural areas, an over-reliance on financialization in enterprises, and a low-end lock on the value chain, hindering the attainment of common prosperity.To overcome these challenges and advance common prosperity through high-quality development, it is crucial to give full expression to the centralized and unified leadership of the Party in gathering common prosperity.This requires the implementation of high standards in addressing platform monopolies, as well as addressing key issues such as the development of the rural collective economy and rural industrial system, promoting the growth of the real economy, and maintaining a stable proportion of manufacturing.
