Abstract:Under the variety of information and communication technologies, the control center can securely and reliably operate power grid during the system disturbances and natural events. Specifically, when the initial failures are detected by cyber monitoring, the system will timely take emergency protecting operations to restrain the spreading of failures. Although cyber network makes the system more robust, they also increase the risk from the cyber network. In this paper, we firstly consider a control strategy into the cascading failures model. Then, we study how the cyber attack - False negatives attack confuses the control center, and makes the control center can not take emergency operation timely, causing the failure continue spreading. We propose an optimization problem to model the above assumptions and, by solving the optimization problem, study the impact of different attack scenarios on power system.

Abstract:A secure and highly reliable communication network is a crucial component of the distributed control system (DCS) in nuclear power plants (NPPs), particularly for the protection system. However, there have been numerous reported cases of cyber-attacks in the field of nuclear power, and the cybersecurity threats faced by a DCS are increasing. Given that the DCS is a complex integrated system combining computers, communication, and control with a large number of interactions between components and external interferences, traditional linear safety analysis methods fail to meet its requirements. To minimize cybersecurity accidents caused by potential vulnerabilities, it is necessary to conduct systematic safety analysis on DCS cybersecurity accidents in NPPs. Therefore, this paper selected a specific case of cybersecurity accidents in a NPP for abstract modeling and reproduction. The causal analysis based on system theory (CAST) method was applied to conduct an analysis of the accident causes. It can identify existing vulnerabilities and potential factors impacting the safe operation of NPPs, and countermeasures and recommendations can be proposed. The reference for assessing potential risks and devising solutions can be provided for other DCS communication networks.

Abstract:For the nuclear power DCS platform, real-time communication network architecture and the selection lack of theoretical basis and performance comparison, as well as the lack of mature experience for reference in the design of DCS Platform made in China, this paper studies the hardware and software implementation of real-time network communication architecture based on different protocols. A network communication scheme suitable for the design of various network topologies of safety-level DCS is proposed, which realizes the real-time and deterministic data transmission of Safety DCS network. It has the advantages of better certainty of data communication, fault-tolerant ability and stability of response time, and meets the requirements of high reliability of data communication for DCS network system of nuclear power platform.

Abstract:Distributed Control System (DCS) has been widely recognized in the field of modern thermal power thermal control, and has significant effects in the application process. Today, the monitoring of electrical quantities is included into the DCS system, thus replacing the traditional "one to one" manual mode of operation in electrical control. It is to further improve the main works of the station automation and control systems. Combined with the actual project needs, this study focuses on the components of electrical control included in DCS system, the implementation of software and hardware features, and the measures to improve reliability. In addition, useful discussions have been made for some technical problems. In the DCS system, the electrical control inclusion is not just a perfection thermal power plant electrical control system, but a big improvement as well. In addition, it is a new attempt. At present, most of the electrical control parts of control system included into the DCS system with the manual operation are basically cancelled, but there are some problems, for example many of the designs do not match with the original operating habits, etc., which will have a certain impact on the tradition. In the transformation process of system, some of the designs are good but cannot be achieved currently. They still need further research and improvement, for example how can the electrical control of system enter into the DCS in a better manner, how can the display of light texts upon failure or abnormal time weaken electric signals in a more comprehensive and rapid manner, what are the new requirements for anti-interference, and other sequential control functions to be improved and perfected.

Abstract:Current-carrying fault is one of the most popular faults of power equipments.When carrier fault occurs the contactor's temperature is higher than normal values and lead to serious result.However,the traditional methods can only do simple threshold determination,and failed to effectively extract valuable information and the diagnosis results are always unsatisfactory.To solve the problem,a new intelligent diagnosis method is proposed in this paper.Furthermore the intelligent warning system is designed and developed for power equipment current-carrying fault,and it's working principle,structure and performance are elaborated.
A Control and Protection Scheme of Multi-terminal DC Power System for DC Line Fault

Abstract:In the multi-terminal DC power transmission system,DC circuit breakers contribute to the fast fault clearing,but the immature manufacturing process leads to the difficulty of its engineering application.This paper uses AC circuit breakers on the DC side of the DC transmission system instead of DC circuit breakers,and a scheme of multi-terminal DC power system control and protections for the DC line fault is proposed.Using PSCAD/EMTDC,a ±800 kV bipolar four-terminal DC transmission system module is built and simulated.The simulation result shows that the system under the fault can achieve fast recovery by using the control and protection scheme based on AC breakers.The demand of power transmission is satisfied and the stability of the connected AC system is enhanced effectively.

Abstract:To validate the communication performance of the adaptive protection system of power supply and distribution line,the system's communication network is constructed based on DeviceNet fieldbus and industrial Ethernet.Transmission time delay model and performance evaluation indices of fieldbus are presented.Transmission time delay,throughput,network efficiency and network utilization of DeviceNet communication of the system are evaluated.Constitution of transmission time delay and general formulas of industrial Ethernet are presented.Transmission time delay of industrial Ethernet periodic communication of the system is analyzed.Results of simulation indicate that the real time performance and reliability of DeviceNet and industrial Ethernet communication of the system can satisfy the requirement of substation automation.

Abstract:In the development of power systems, the traditional AC power grids are gradually evolving into AC/DC hybrid grids. However, the safety of hybrid grids is threatened by cascading faults, which is a set of chain events caused by a single fault and will eventually lead to a blackout. Based on the blackout accident that happened in Brazil on March 21st, 2018, this paper analyzes the cause, mechanism, and development of cascading faults in AC/DC hybrid grids. Simulations based on PSCAD/EMTDC software have been carried out to illustrate the typical cascading fault scenario including HVDC commutation failure, DC blocking, power flow transferring, incorrect relay protection and the outage of the network. Both analysis and simulation results shows that the “strong DC weak AC” structure and unreasonable cooperation of relay protections and stability control devices are important factors of cascading faults. Finally, this paper prospects a series of protection and control technologies that are expected to solve the problem.

Abstract:With the rapid development of ultra-high voltage (UHV) inter-regional interconnected power grid and the wide application of a large number of power electronic devices, the security and stability characteristic of power grid is becoming more and more complex, and the risk of safe operation is increasing day by day. To further adapt to the power grid situation, in recent years, the State Grid Corporation of China has put forward the requirement of building a comprehensive security defense system for the large power grid, namely “system protection”. System protection is an emergency control system based on wide area information collection, rapid fault diagnosis and isolation, multi-resource collaboration, and other functions. It covers many sites and the coupling relationship between device strategies is complex. At the same time, due to the limitation of control resources, the cross configuration between strategies is gradually increasing, and the influence range of local system anomalies is becoming larger and larger. Its complexity and hidden dangers lead to a significant increase in the risk of power grid operation. At present, there is little literature on how to reduce the risk of power grid safe and stable operation caused by the failure of the system protection itself through effective coordinated adjustment. In this paper, a coordinated adjustment method based on typical expected fault scenarios of system protection is proposed. For typical expected fault scenarios of system protection with unacceptable risks, certain measures are taken in advance to reduce the possible risks to the power system.

Abstract:The reform of electric power system has led to the forming of large-scale interconnected electric power grids. The large-scale electric power grids have covered the nation-wide area of China,and it is expected to be connected with other international grids in the near future. The large-scale interconnected power system requires advanced communication infrastructure,control technique,operation strategy and the capabilities of protecting and controlling catastrophic failure. The available advanced technologies,such as computing,networking and data communication,should be applied to support the system. The major functions of DPS are to implement real-time state assessment,to improve system security and stability,to establish and implement economic operation strategy,to enhance the capability of handling system failure and restoration,and to achieve optimal management of electric power system. For realizing the above mentioned functions,a real-time data exchange network must be firstly established. In this paper,a communication infrastructure of achieving these purposes is proposed. The design of backbone network,protocol system,and data link layer are fully discussed. To fully use the bandwidth resource in the broadband network,the scheme for integrating available service is also discussed. Finally,the time delay and security strategy are discussed.

Abstract:In terms of the general policy of our country's system developing, which is power from west China to east China, mutual supply between south and north, nationwide interconnection, this paper analyses the possible questions that may appear in the course of the implementation of this strategy. Such as the unfavorable impact of the fault occurring on the accurate work of the protection relay and the control device when AC and DC are transmitted in parallel, the further improvement of capacity of the long-distance HV line,the potential instability of system network structure as a result of the poor coordination of the performance sequence and the start-up threshold of the existing auto-mechanism,and the difficulties in preventing catastrophic accident with low possibility by means of system stability control and ensuring that the accident will not be extended in the disconnected system with fixed disconnection.This paper presents that fourfold line of defence should be set up instead of threefold for security and stability control system, and points out the basic principles and the key techniques which is required to further research for developing the fourfold line of defence. These principles and techniques are introduced as follows. The first is to develop a new type of protection relay system with rapidity of action and better transient performance, including the research on the new type of protection relay useful to the line inclusive of electronic apparatus, the new type of protection relay of 750kV system and the new theories of protection using transient component of the fault.The second is to research into system transient stability prediction and urgency control systems independent of the system models and parameters (50277027).based on the information network of synchronous phasor to improve capacity and to prevent synchronous instability, including the study on generator swing trajectory prediction based on the information of synchronous phasor measurement units, the expression of transient instability boundary and the principle of instability prediction, and realization techniques of transient stability real-time control system of the whole system.Based on information network of wide area,the third is to construct a network protective system, which should coordinate the performance of back-up protection relays and other auto-mechanisms in the whole system network,to maintain the stability of the truss of network and prevent a unorderly trips,including the optimal cooperation of the protection relay of line and auto-reclosure,the research on the protective relaying system with transmission section,and the network protection based on multi-agent system.The fourth is to construct a self-adaptive network disconnection system to prevent the collapse of interconnection system and shorten the duration of cut, including the principle of fast identifying the mode of out-of-step generators,the automatic catching of oscillation center and the self-adaptive decision of network disconnection section.The fifth is to arouse the enthusiasm of participators in the market for ensuring the security of system, through studying the principle of taking on economic responsibility of the protection and urgency control system in Power Market.

Abstract:The power system network is developing towards a more intelligent and integrated direction. Compared with the past, the attack and dispatching of power system network are more diversified and antagonistic, and the security of power system network is facing more severe challenges. In this paper, we attempt to analyze the security of power system network based on complex network. Firstly, the IEEE57 power system is modeled by reactance weighted and undirected network, the cascading failure model is used to describe the relationship between nodes and edges. Then three types of attack of power system network are analyzed. According to the dynamic characteristics and damage degree of power system network, corresponding attack countermeasures are provided.

Abstract:The digitalization and networking of control systems in nuclear power plants has brought significant improvements in system control,operation and maintenance.However,the highly digitalized control system also introduces additional security vulnerabilities.Moreover,the replacement of conventional proprietary systems with common protocols,software and devices makes these vulnerabilities easy to be exploited.Through the interaction between control systems and the physical world,security issues in control systems impose high risks on health,safety and environment.These security issues may even cause damages of critical infrastructures and threaten national security.The importance of control system security by reviewing several control system security incidents that happened in nuclear power plants was showed in recent years.Several key difficulties in addressing these security issues were described.Finally,existing researches on control system security and propose several promising research directions were reviewed.

Abstract:The information physics system realizes the integration and interaction between them by the 3C technique. The application of scheduling automation, Substation Automation and Online Fault Recovery Technology Improves Emergency Response Capability, and Information Security issues are also embedded in the energy system. Power grid operation is facing more threats, and state space and failure scenarios are also more abundant, which poses new research needs and challenges for power system stability assessment. First, the physical interaction of information is analyzed. From the perspective of function, the CPPS hierarchy corresponds to the physical Electric power system, the information sub-station system and the main station system respectively. Then, taking the information node as the fault detection sample point, the chain fault model of the power information physical system is studied, and the abnormal response of the power information system is classified and identified, Finally, a failure response model and a failure recovery model are built. Finally, a simulation example is given for verification.
