Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Abstract:A doubly degenerate parabolic equation in non-divergent form with variable growth is investigated in this paper. In suitable spaces, we prove the existence of weak solutions of the equation for cases $1\leq m < 2$ and $m\geq 2$ in different ways. And we establish the non-expansion of support of the solution for the problem.

Abstract:This article deals with the behaviors of solutions to the initial-boundary value problem for a fourth-order parabolic equation with gradient nonlinearity. More precisely, we first get a threshold result for the solutions to exist globally or to blow up in finite time when the initial energy is subcritical and critical, and give an upper bound estimate of the lifespan. Furthermore, we derive the sufficient conditions for the existence of global and blow-up solutions for supercritical initial energy. Finally, we also give a lower bound estimate of the lifespan and obtain some estimates for blow-up rate. These results extend and improve some recent results.

Abstract:This paper studies a fourth-order, nonlinear, doubly-degenerate parabolic equation derived from the thin film equation in spherical geometry. A regularization method is used to study the equation and several useful estimates are obtained. The main result of this paper is to prove the existence of a weak solution of the equation in a weighted Sobolev space.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to studying the existence and asymptotic behavior of solutions to a nonlinear parabolic equation of fourth order: ut+∇⋅(|∇Δu|p−2∇Δu)=f(u) in Ω⊂RN with boundary condition u=Δu=0 and initial data u0. The substantial difficulty is that the general maximum principle does not hold for it. The solutions are obtained for both the steady-state case and the developing case by the fixed point theorem and the semi-discretization method. Unlike the general procedures used in the previous papers on the subject, we introduce two families of approximate solutions with determining the uniform bounds of derivatives with respect to the time and space variables, respectively. By a compactness argument with necessary estimates, we show that the two approximation sequences converge to the same limit, i.e., the solution to be determined. In addition, the decays of solutions towards the constant steady states are established via the entropy method. Finally, it is interesting to observe that the solutions just tend to the initial data u0 as p→∞.

Abstract:The authors of this article study the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions of the initial-boundary value problem for ut=div((|u|σ+d0)|∇u|p(x,t)−2∇u)+f(x,t)(0<σ<2).. They apply the method of parabolic regularization and Galerkin's method to prove the existence of solutions to the mentioned problem and then prove the uniqueness of the weak solution by arguing by contradiction. The authors prove that the solution approaches 0 in L2(Ω) norm as t → ∞.

Abstract:This paper deals with a 4th-order parabolic PDE involving -Laplacian in a bounded domain, subject to Neumann boundary conditions. Firstly, we show the proof of the local existence and uniqueness of weak solutions and the energy identity. The blow-up time estimates are discussed for the corresponding blow-up solutions. Secondly, we define different Nehari manifolds and the energy functional and then determine the existence of blow-up and global solutions in the subcritical, critical, super critical energy cases. Thirdly, we combine some ordinary differential inequalities and different auxiliary functions to obtain the conditions on the existence of extinction and non-extinction solutions with extinction rate and time.

For different boundary values kappa, we establish the global bifurcation branches of solutions to the equation. Nonlinear Anal. 69 (2), 1364–1375 (2008)) in which the nontrivial solutions to the fourth-order boundary value problems were studied. In the current work with the same conditions near infinity but different near zero, the positive, negative, and sign-changing solutions are obtained by the critical point theory, retracting property, and invariant sets.

Abstract:By a new type of comparison principle for a fourth order elliptic problem in general domains, we investigate the structure of positive solutions to Navier boundary value problems of a perturbed fourth order elliptic equation with negative exponent, which arises in the study of the deflection of charged plates in electrostatic actuators in the modeling of electrostatic micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). It is seen that the structure of solutions relies on the boundary values. The global branches of solutions to the Navier boundary value problems are established. We also show that the behaviors of these branches are relatively "stable" with respect to the Navier boundary values.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the existence and extinction of weak solutions of the initial and boundary value problem for ut=div((|u|σ(x,t)+d0)|∇u|p(x,t)−2∇u)+f(x,t,u). First, the authors apply the method of parabolic regularization and Galerkin’s method to prove the existence of solutions to the problem mentioned and then obtain the comparison principle by arguing by contradiction. Furthermore, the authors prove that the solution vanishes in finite time and approaches 0 in L2(Ω) norm as t→∞.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with weak solutions to an initial-boundary value problem for a fourth order nonlinear degenerate parabolic equation, which is used to simulate the convection phenomenon dominated by the surface-tension-driven mechanism. First, we construct a modified problem of the initial-boundary value problem. Then, constructing an energy functional with special form and using the energy method, we obtain the uniform a-priori estimates of the solutions to the modified problem. Next, the Aubin-lions lemma is used to take the limit of the solutions to get the weak solutions to an approximate problem of the initial-boundary value problem. Finally, introducing the special integral functions, we prove the non-negativity of the solutions and obtain the global existence of weak solutions to the initial-boundary value problem.
