Abstract:In this paper we present a unified approach to establish the existence of renormalized solutions and a comparison result for a class of non-uniformly parabolic initial-boundary value problems. As a consequence, the uniqueness of renormalized solutions and the equivalence between entropy and renormalized solutions for such equations are obtained. The results extend the well-posedness results for the classical p-Laplacian type equations to a larger class of non-linear elliptic and parabolic PDEs including the nearly linear growth operators.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Abstract:We consider the nonlinear degenerate elliptic-parabolic-hyperbolic equation partial derivative(t)g(u) - Delta b(u) - div Phi(u) = f(g(u)) in (0,T) x Omega where g and b are nondecreasing continuous functions, Phi is vectorial and continuous, and f is Lipschitz continuous. We prove the existence, comparison and uniqueness of entropy solutions for the associated initial-boundary-value problem where Omega is a bounded domain in R-N. For the associated initial-value problem where Omega = R-N, N >= 3, the existence of entropy solutions is proved. Moreover, for the case when Phi o g(-1) is locally Holder continuous of order 1 - 1/N, and vertical bar b(u)vertical bar <= omega(vertical bar g(u)vertical bar), where omega is nondecreasing continuous with omega(0) = 0, we can prove the L-1-contraction principle, and hence the uniqueness.

Motivated by porous medium equations with a randomly perturbed velocity field, this paper considers a class of nonlinear degenerate diffusion equations with nonlinear conservative noise in bounded domains. The existence, uniqueness, and [math]-stability of nonnegative entropy solutions under the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition are proved. The approach combines Kruzhkov's doubling variables technique with a revised strong entropy condition that is automatically satisfied by the solutions of approximate equations.

Abstract:Entropy weak solutions with bounded periodic initial data are considered for the system of weakly nonlinear gas dynamics. Through a modified Glimm scheme, an approximate solution sequence is constructed, and then a priori estimates are provided with the methods of approximate characteristics and approximate conservation laws, which gives not only the existence and uniqueness but also the uniform total variation bounds for the entropy solutions.
