Abstract:A unified model for harmonics and reactive current closed-loop or open-loop detection was established based on instantaneous reactive power theory. The fundamental active currents were obtained by transforming the load currents into rotation coordinate system and filtering the high frequency component through an equivalent lowpass filter. Harmonics and reactive currents were acquired by subtracting the fundamental active currents from load currents. An optimum project was presented for the equivalent lowpass filter, and the effects of the rank and cutoff frequency of the filter on the dynamic and static features of the detection system were analyzed. Considering the performance of both dynamic and static response, the cutoff frequency should be 10—40 Hz. The rank should not exceed 3 for reducing the realization complexity. The experimental result of a realtime harmonics and reactive current closed-loop detection system applied to active power filter shows that this system has perfect dynamic and static response.

Abstract:The wide use of nonlinear power electronic equipment brings out serious harmonic pollution in grid. Restricting harmonic pollution becomes an urgent problem to be solved. The key to restrict and compensate harmonic is to detect harmonic accurately and timely. Firstly, the effect of direct component and changed amplitude on harmonic detection using adaptive notch filter is amalyzed, and a modified adaptive notch filter is designed. Then modified adaptive notch filter can accurately extract direct component, fundamental frequency, harmonic instantaneous value and amplitude when grid includes direct component and changes amplitude. The result of Matlab/Simulink simulation shows that the above-mentioned approach is effective.

Abstract:Active power filter(APF) is the main device to suppress the harmonic in the power system.Harmonic current detection fast and accuracy determine the performance of the system harmonic current compensation in the APF system.Based on the analysis of traditional detection algorithm,the wavelet transform harmonic current detection method is used,meanwhile,the method is studied in the EMTDC/PSCAD and a prototype is built.The experimental results verify the feasibility of the method,and it has good dynamic response speed.

Abstract:In order to deal with the time domain harmonic detection algorithm of active power filter(APF),a high performance digital low pass filter(HPLPF) was presented,which can satisfy the requirements of dynamic response and filtering accuracy simultaneously.Infinite impulse response filter(IIR) and moving average filter(MA) were analyzed and compared.Then the HPLPF was introduced by cascaded MA filter and Butterworth filter optimally.The proposed high performance filter can fully use Butterworth filter to achieve more precise filtering results and improve dynamic response by using MA filter with its narrow transition zone and fast dynamic response.Simulation results show that the proposed HPLPF meets the demand of time domain harmonic detection algorithm better under the complex harmonic currents situation with inter-harmonics currents.

Abstract:This paper presents a delayless harmonic detection system based on DSP with high-accuracy for active power filter. Modified structure adopting new signal-flow is introduced, which can effectively integrate analog control and digital control. Phase-shift compensating strategy is introduced into the synchronous-reference-frame based detection algorithm to overcome time-delay induced by digital control. Some design issues such as evaluation of time delay and digital phase shift is discussed. Furthermore, to guarantee satisfactory detecting performance, low sampling rate based low pass filter design helps to realize accurate fundamental current extraction overcoming the limitation of certain DSP resource. Experimental results verify the excellent performance of the presented harmonic detection system.

Abstract:Active power filter (APF) with digital control is widely used to solve harmonic problems. But inherent delay time introduced by digital control significantly affects the performance of APF. Here, we introduce an improved harmonic detection method by using phase-shifting. In order to shorten the computation time of harmonics reference, we use the data calculated in the last sample period. So the delay time is shortened, and the performance of APF is improved. The whole algorithm is based on generalized instantaneous reactive power theory. This method is easy to realize and useful for industrial application. A 50kVA three-phase four-wire shunt active power filter is implemented. The controllers with two types of TI digital signal processors (TMS320LF240 and TMS320F2812) are compared. Experiment result shows good performance employing the new algorithm for APF.

Abstract:This paper proposes a high-performance resonant current controller for shunt active power filter (APF). The method employs an array of resonant current controllers implemented in fundamental reference frame to selective harmonic compensation (SHC). The controller based on the pole-zero cancellation technique, taking into account the control object transfer function at each harmonic frequency. To cope with the grid frequency variations, the controller utilizes the frequency information provided by Phase-Locked Loop (PLL). Furthermore, the relationship between the current controller parameters and harmonic compensation performance analyzed in detail. The validity of the proposed controller is confirmed by experimental results.

Abstract:Active Power Filter is an important device to eliminate the pollution of harmonics and with the development of power electronics, this device becomes more popular. A new algorithm for random harmonic current detection of active power filter based on instantaneous reactive power theory is presented in this paper. This algorithm can overcome the infection of the digital controller's delay time to harmonic compensation and realize the real time compensation. Analyses and simulation prove the correctness of the algorithm.

Abstract:One of the most critical issues associated with APF control is to find an efficient algorithm that can obtain an accurate harmonic reference signal for control purpose. This paper presented two novel methods of the harmonic detection in an advanced active power filter (APF) for the compensation of instantaneous harmonic current components in high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system. One is based on the ameliorated adaptive noise canceling theory and the other is grounded on mean value filtering method. The two methods are implemented on TMS320C32 DSP system. Both of them can efficiently determine the instantaneous harmonic reference signal in real time. The validity of two algorithms is substantiated via simulations and experiments.

Abstract:The traditional ip-iq harmonic detection method is widely used in APF, but it sacrifices the response speed and detection accuracy of the APF system due to the limitations of the traditional phase-locked loop and LPF. Therefore, in order to make APF both higher detection accuracy and faster response speed, a harmonic detection method based on dual second-order sliding-window discrete Fourier transform (DS-SDFT) is proposed, which can accurately detect harmonics with DSOGI-PLL and greatly reduce the computational effort by using half-cycle sliding-window iterative discrete Fourier transform, solving the inherent defects of traditional phase-locked loops and LPFs. Meanwhile, in order to compensate the harmonics better, the model predictive control with stronger dynamic response capability is used in the current compensation control. Finally, the APF based on this harmonic detection method and current control strategy is fast in response and high in detection accuracy, which is proved by the simulation and experimental results, and the effectiveness of the detection method is verified.

Abstract:A novel hybrid active power filter (HAPF) controlled simultaneously by the harmonic voltage from the network and the harmonic current from the load is presented. A series parallel resonance passive filter is adopted. The theoretical analysis and compensation characteristics of the HAPF as well as design of the passive filter are given. The simulation results show that the HAPF is suitable for harmonics suppression for most of power electronic equipment.

Abstract:Active Power Filter (APF) is a new kind of equipment used in power grids to realize harmonic control function. As a key technology in APF, the harmonic detection algorithm directly determines the overall performance of the system. A new harmonic detection algorithm was proposed for the newly emerging direct AC-AC based APF. It is based on the combination of an improved sliding-window discrete Fourier transform (ISDFT) and symmetrical component method (SCM), which can realize individual fast detection of each sequence components for different orders of harmonics. The algorithm is simpler and faster than the traditional detection ones. It is superior especially when the grid is unbalanced and large numbers of harmonics needs to be detected. Furthermore, the new method can also be used in traditional APF to get rapid harmonic detection. The new AC-AC based APF was introduced in this article as a background, then the principle of the new algorithm was analyzed in details and a comparative study between the new algorithm and the traditional method was given. By applying the proposed harmonic detection method, an overall solution was derived for the novel direct AC-AC based APF. Finally, simulation results were given to verify the correctness of the new method. Also, a 3kW AC-AC based APF prototype was built to validate the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:A method is proposed, based on the instantaneous reactive powertheory, to detect instantaneous reactive current and high frequency harmonic current simultaneously. Furthermore, a combined system of a shunt passive filter and an active filter is presented. Computer simulation and experiments show that the active power filter system can effectively suppress the high frequency harmonics and reactive currents at the same time.

Active power component was predicted by system modeling, which conquered the one-cycle delay of traditional methods. Abstract:Shunt Active Power Filter (APF) is suitable to compensate current-type harmonics generated by nonlinear load, but high compensation precision is difficult to be obtained due to very high slew-rate of harmonic current e.g. inductive rectifier and phase lag of close-loop control system. In this paper, LCL-filter is used as output filter to get high slew rate of compensation current and sufficient attenuation ratio for switching frequency with small LC parameters. What's more, repetitive control algorithm with differential compensator is adopted to eliminate steady-state error of control loop. Based on these two approaches, very high quality grid current waveform both at low and high frequency can be obtained. Simulation results validate the feasibility of the schemes proposed by this paper.

Abstract:This paper presents an digital dual-mode-structure repetitive control approach for the single-phase shunt active power filter (APF), which aims to enhance the tracking ability and eliminate arbitrary order harmonic. The proposed repetitive control scheme blends the characteristics of both odd-harmonic repetitive control and even-harmonic repetitive control. Moreover, the convergence rate is faster than conventional repetitive controller. Additionally, the parameters have been designed and optimized for the dual-mode structure repetitive control to improve the performance of APF system. Experimental results on a laboratory setup are given to verify the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:This paper describes an active power filter (APF) control strategy, which eliminates harmonics and compensates reactive power in a three-phase four-wire power system supplying non-linear unbalanced loads in the presence of non-linear non-stationary currents. Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) technique developed as part of the Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is used to singulate the harmonics and non-linear non stationary disturbances from the load currents. The control strategy for the APF is formulated by hybridizing the so called modified p-q theory with the EMD algorithm. A four-leg split-capacitor converter controlled by hysteresis band current controller is used as an APF. The results obtained are compared with those obtained with the conventional modified p-q theory, which does not possess current harmonics or distortions separation strategy, to validate its performance.

Abstract:An optimized reference current detection method based on synchronous reference frame transformation and sliding discrete Fourier transform (SDFT) is proposed. The proposed method can be used to extract characteristic harmonic currents as the reference current of system from the load currents by fewer sampling points, meanwhile,the numbers of harmonics need to be calculated will reduce to half of traditional method,it means that the proposed method can reduce the computational effort and easy to engineering implementation, while achieving better dynamic performance compared with other methods. The results of simulation and experiment show the validity of this method.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems that the traditional active power filter (APF) which is with limited bandwidth and is difficult to realize zero steady-state error control, we use a strategy based on multiple synchronous rotating coordinate for each harmonic separation to achieve the detection of selective harmonic and proportion-integral (PI) control. Then it’s able to implement zero steady-state error compensation. After establishing the mathematical model of harmonic rotating coordinate for the APF, we proposed a simple strategy of current coupling and decoupling. The simulation results and the prototypes’ practical operations proved that the control strategy can compensate for the selective harmonic effectively and respond to the changes of the conditions in time. Meanwhile it has good characteristics in dynamic response.
