Abstract:For the superior limit of the incremental supremum of the 2-parameter Wiener process, there have already been very general results corresponding to that of 1-parameter Wiener process. However, the research on the inferior limit seems not to be deeply made up to now. This paper aims at getting a theorem about this problem under weaker conditions. And a conclusion corresponding to one-parameter case leads to a kind of generalization of the existing result.

Abstract:Recently, Fulman developed some general connections between martingales and character ratios of a random representation of the symmetric group on transitions, and obtained a convergence rate in a central limit theorem. In this work we aim to establish the law of the iterated logarithm for character ratios. The technique is a well-known Skorokhod embedding theorem for martingales and strong approximation argument. Also, bounded martingale difference methods are used to obtain a large deviation for character ratios.

Abstract:Some probability inequalities are obtained, and some liminf results are established for a two-parameter Wiener process by using these inequalities. The results obtained improve those of Lacey (1989) and get the watershed between the Chung type laws of the iterated logarithm and the Lacey type laws of the iterated logarithm.

Abstract:In this paper, we will study concentration inequalities for Banach space-valued martingales. Firstly, we prove that a Banach space $X$ is linearly isomorphic to a $p$-uniformly smooth space ($1<p\leq 2$) if and only if an Azuma-type inequality holds for $X$-valued martingales. This can be viewed as a generalization of Pinelis' work on Azuma inequality for martingales with values in $2$-uniformly smooth space. Secondly, Azuma-type inequality for self-normalized sums will be presented. Finally, some further inequalities for Banach space-valued martingales, such as moment inequalities for double indexed dyadic martingales and the De la Peña-type inequalities for conditionally symmetric martingales, will also be discussed.

Abstract:For martingales with a wide range of integrability, we will quantify the rate of convergence of the central limit theorem via Wasserstein distances of order $r$, $1\le r\le 3$. Our bounds are in terms of Lyapunov's coefficients and the $\mathscr L^{r/2}$ fluctuation of the total conditional variances. We will show that our Wasserstein-1 bound is optimal up to a multiplicative constant.

Abstract:The maximal inequalities for martingales are one of the classical results in the theory of stochastic processes. Here, we establish the sharp moderate maximal inequalities for one-dimensional diffusion processes, which generalize the maximal inequalities for diffusions. Moreover, we apply our theory to many specific examples, including the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck (OU) process, Brownian motion with drift, reflected Brownian motion with drift, Cox–Ingersoll–Ross process, radial OU process, and Bessel process. The results are further applied to establish the moderate maximal inequalities for some high-dimensional processes, including the complex OU process and general conformal local martingales.

As a byproduct of our approach, we obtain new and constructive proofs of both the noncommutative Burkholder–Gundy inequalities and the noncommutative Burkholder/Rosenthal inequalities for 1 < p < 2 with the optimal order of the constants when p → 1.

Abstract:The central limit theorem of martingales is the fundamental tool for studying the convergence of stochastic processes, especially stochastic integrals and differential equations. In this paper, the central limit theorem and the functional central limit theorem are obtained for martingale-like random variables under the sub-linear expectation. As applications, the Lindeberg’s central limit theorem is obtained for independent but not necessarily identically distributed random variables, and a new proof of the Lévy characterization of a GBrownian motion without using stochastic calculus is given. For proving the results, Rosenthal’s inequality and the exponential inequality for the martingale-like random variables are established.

Abstract:We prove that non-commutative martingale transforms are of weak type $(1,1)$. More precisely, there is an absolute constant $C$ such that if $\M$ is a semi-finite von Neumann algebra and $(\M_n)_{n=1}^\infty$ is an increasing filtration of von Neumann subalgebras of $\M$ then for any non-commutative martingale $x=(x_n)_{n=1}^\infty$ in $L^1(\M)$, adapted to $(\M_n)_{n=1}^\infty$, and any sequence of signs $(\epsilon_n)_{n=1}^\infty$, $$\left\Vert \epsilon_1 x_1 + \sum_{n=2}^N \epsilon_n(x_n -x_{n-1}) \right\Vert_{1,\infty} \leq C \left\Vert x_N \right\Vert_1 $$ for $N\geq 2$. This generalizes a result of Burkholder from classical martingale theory to non-commutative setting and answers positively a question of Pisier and Xu. As applications, we get the optimal order of the UMD-constants of the Schatten class $S^p$ when $p \to \infty$. Similarly, we prove that the UMD-constant of the finite dimensional Schatten class $S_n^{1}$ is of order $\log(n+1)$. We also discuss the Pisier-Xu non-commutative Burkholder-Gundy inequalities.

Abstract:A result by N.G. Makarov [Algebra i Analiz, 1989] states that for martingales $(M_n)$ on the torus we have the strict inequality \[ \liminf_{n\to\infty} \frac{M_n}{\sum_{k=1}^n |\Delta M_k|} > 0 \] on a set of Hausdorff dimension one, denoting by $\Delta M_n$ the martingale differences $ \Delta M_n = M_n - M_{n-1} $. We discuss an extension of this inequality to so-called smartingales on convex, compact subsets of $\mathbb R^d$, which are piecewise polynomial (or spline) versions of martingales. As a tool we need and prove an estimate for smartingales in the spirit of the law of the iterated logarithm.

Abstract:We provide generalizations of Burkholder's inequalities involving conditioned square functions of martingales to the general context of martingales in noncommutative symmetric spaces. More precisely, we prove that Burkholder's inequalities are valid for any martingale in noncommutative space constructed from a symmetric space defined on the interval $(0,\infty)$ with Fatou property and whose Boyd indices are strictly between 1 and 2. This answers positively a question raised by Jiao and may be viewed as a conditioned version of similar inequalities for square functions of noncommutative martingales. Using duality, we also recover the previously known case where the Boyd indices are finite and are strictly larger than 2.

Abstract:We study a class of martingale inequalities involving the running maximum process. They are derived from pathwise inequalities introduced by Henry_Labordere et al. (2013) and provide an upper bound on the expectation of a function of the running maximum in terms of marginal distributions at n intermediate time points. The class of inequalities is rich and we show that in general no inequality is uniformly sharp - for any two inequalities we specify martingales such that one or the other inequality is sharper. We then use our inequalities to recover Doob's L^p inequalities. For p in (0,1] we obtain new, or refined, inequalities.

Abstract:Abstract Let $$0<q\le \infty $$ 0 < q ≤ ∞ , b be a slowly varying function and $$ \Phi : [0,\infty ) \longrightarrow [0,\infty ) $$ Φ : [ 0 , ∞ ) ⟶ [ 0 , ∞ ) be an increasing function with $$\Phi (0)=0$$ Φ ( 0 ) = 0 and $$\lim \limits _{r \rightarrow \infty }\Phi (r)=\infty $$ lim r → ∞ Φ ( r ) = ∞ . In this paper, we introduce a new class of function spaces $$L_{\Phi ,q,b}$$ L Φ , q , b which unify and generalize the Lorentz-Karamata spaces with $$\Phi (t)=t^p$$ Φ ( t ) = t p and the Orlicz-Lorentz spaces with $$b\equiv 1$$ b ≡ 1 . Based on the new spaces, we introduce five new Hardy spaces containing martingales, the so-called Orlicz-Lorentz-Karamata Hardy martingale spaces and then develop a theory of these martingale Hardy spaces. To be precise, we first investigate several properties of Orlicz-Lorentz-Karamata spaces and then present Doob’s maximal inequalities by using Hardy’s inequalities. The characterization of these Hardy martingale spaces are constructed via the atomic decompositions. As applications of the atomic decompositions, martingale inequalities and the relation of the different martingale Hardy spaces are presented. The dual theorems and a new John-Nirenberg type inequality for the new framework are also established. Moreover, we study the boundedness of fractional integral operators on Orlicz-Lorentz-Karamata Hardy martingale spaces. The results obtained here generalize the previous results for Lorentz-Karamata Hardy martingale spaces as well as for Orlicz-Lorentz Hardy martingales spaces. Especially, we remove the condition that b is non-decreasing as in [38, 39] and the condition $$q_{\Phi ^{-1}}<1/q$$ q Φ - 1 < 1 / q in [24], respectively.

Abstract:Let X and Y be an m-dimensional F-semimartingale and an n-dimensional H-semimartingale respectively on the same probability space, both enjoying the strong predictable representation property. We propose a martingale representation result under the probability measure P for the square integrable G-martingales, where G is the union of F and H. As a first application we identify the biggest possible value of the multiplicity in the sense of Davis and Varaiya of the union of F1,..., Fd, where, fixed i in (1,...,d), Fi is the reference filtration of a real martingale Mi, which enjoys the Fi-predictable representation property. A second application falls into the framework of credit risk modeling and in particular into the study of the progressive enlargement of the market filtration by a default time. More precisely, when the risky asset price is a multidimensional semimartingale enjoying the strong predictable representation property and the default time satisfies the density hypothesis, we present a new proof of the analogous of the classical theorem of Kusuoka.
