Abstract:The paper carries out the arrangement and reconsideration of the generation and development of "imagery",and reaches main conclusions,pointing out that the "imagery" is an inevitable choice and wisdom for Chinese to comprehend the Nature,Man and their interrelation.The development of the "imagery" theory has gone through a development process: imagery consubstantiality depicted in Book of Changes→speech to form imagery→imagery to fully express ideas→obtaining ideas by forgetting imagery→obtaining ideas by forgetting speech→things for ideas to undertake,things for imagery to expect to carry→obtaining imagery by forgetting speech,obtaining ideas by forgetting imagery→extravagant similarity in form→magnificent novelty→combination of regulation and vital energy and surpassing to get beyond imagery.The paper,then,rethinks the study of calligraphic imagery theory from the aspect of philosophy,aesthetics and calligraphic imagery history,disclosing,from the level of the theory of calligraphy,that the main law of the calligraphic imagery lies in that the imagery of the form,potential and status of calligraphy stems from the Nature and is obtained from comprehensive imagery transformation of the Nature,passing through the process of the development from the ideas form to ideas reason and then to ideas spirit.The most important thing to express the calligraphy imagery is to purify the spirit and remove worries in a tranquil way,to have comfortable emotion and pleasant feeling,to work out the ideas before putting pen to paper and to get diverse ideas for each character.The emergence of six styles of calligraphy of Chinese characters laid down the script foundation for calligraphic imagery.Calligraphic imagery has the spiritual sustenance nature featuring perfect combination of Heaven and Man.The generation of the six-script style of calligraphy stems from imagery.The important thing for calligraphy imagery lies in the unique combination of the spirit,mind,vitality and hand.The paper,furthermore,deals with the macro construction of the calligraphic imagery system,pointing out the main orientations to be included in the study of the calligraphic imagery theory.
