Abstract:With the emergence of the pneumatic-servo system, pneumatic system control is extended from logical control to servo control area, Due to the substantial nonlinearities of pneumatic-servo system which is mainly caused by air compressibility, valve deadzone and saturation, and cylinder friction, it has been used mainly for relatively simple tasks. Many researchers were engaged in pneumatic-servo system because of its simple in structure, high performance to cost, and easy to operate, but rather limited in "point-to-point" positioning control. This paper is focused on the continuous position tracking control of pneumatic-servo system. By analysis of inner pressure control system, outer motion control system, static and kinetic friction of cylinder, a friction observer of cylinder is designed. It is shown that the nonlinear mechanical friction causes a stick-slip response in system. At last, a 3-R pneumatic-servo calligraphy robot, which can write Chinese calligraphy, is developed. Three dimensional position, data are recorded to the computer by RS-232 port between Unis-pen device and computer. Computer deals with the recorded data and communicates with controller by another RS232 port at real time. The experiment demonstrates that the pneumatic-servo system has excellent tracking characteristics and can rival the expensive electro-servo system in many area of industry.
