Discussion about Compilation of Custom Records in the Second Round Local Records

Abstract:We must start from the custom in order to understand local situation.The first round Local Records contain many contents about the custom,but since the compilation of the second round Local Records,things differ.Some haven't included the custom contents,some have included custom contents in despite of disagreement.The present article sets forth the author's views about the compilation of custom contents from title,style,innovation perspectives in order to improve the quality of their compilation.1.Title.Different Local Records have different titles about custom contents.The author thinks that it is a traditional and general accepted practice of Local Records to name this kind of contents Custom or Custom Records so that there would be some difference between custom contents in Local Records and custom contents in folklore.2.Style.We discuss mainly two questions in this regard: one question concerns the meaning of style for custom contents.Custom contents shouldn't be put into a certain category of Local Records.They should become independent records from the point of view of contents design.We should not confuse the present custom and the old custom.We need to clarify the route of custom evolution.We should pay attention to the use of the materials which would mark historical stage and transition so as to obtain a better composition of custom issues and to show the variability and the times features of custom in the process of its transmission.The other question concerns the differences of custom records at provincial,municipal and county's levels.3.Innovation.Custom materials are very dispersed at present.The author suggests that Local Records offices could regard the compilation of custom records as a research project and entrust experts and scholars in universities to compose them.The author points out that due to the lack of custom materials it is necessary to carry out field investigation and oral history investigation.Local Records offices could work together with relevant institutions to carry out field investigations in order to collect more materials.Importance should also be attached to the landscape effect of custom demonstration so as to unceasingly improve the readability of custom records.
