Abstract:Pure phase benzylamine and aniline intercalates of layered microporous aluminophosphate [Al3P4O16][CH3(CH2)3NH3]3 were obtained for the first time by a novel two-step method, including a delamination step in alkaline medium and an intercalation step in acidic medium. The pH value and the dielectric constant of the solution used in these two steps were decisive for the success of preparation of the new intercalates. XRD and various other techniques were employed for the characterization of the intercalate products and the elucidation of the working principle of the novel method.

Abstract:Layered microporous aluminophosphate [Al2P3O10 (OH)(2)][C6NH8](AlP) was delaminated to form a well dispersed colloid in water-ethanol solution. New C-2-C-12 alkylamine intercalated materials of the aluminophosphate were reassembled in the solutions with dielectric constants in the range of 50-70 and an amine amount of 10 mmol/g AlP. The saturated C-2-C(1)2 alkylamine intercalated materials of AlP were packed with alkylamine bilayers tilted at an angle of about 42.6degrees in the interlayer region. The delamination and intercalation processes were followed by XRD and SEM measurements. The influence of layer structure on the delamination and reassembly processes was discussed.

A good colloidal dispersion and saturated amine intercalates of the aluminophosphate can be obtained in solutions with dielectric constants in the range 50–70 and an amine concentration of 10 mmol/g AlP. Abstract:Layered microporous aluminophosphate [Al3P4O16][CH3(CH2)3NH3]3 delaminates and recrystallizes to form new amine intercalates in water/ethanol solutions of C2–C8 alkylamines. The delamination and intercalation processes are followed by XRD and SEM measurements. In ethylamine solution only a saturated amine intercalate is formed, whereas in C4–C8 amine solutions an intermediate amine intercalate coexists with the saturated one. The saturated amine intercalates are packed with alkylamine bilayers tilted at an angle of about 38.4° in the interlayer region.

Abstract:A new layered aluminophosphate [C6H21N4][Al3P4O16] has been synthesized solvothermally by using triethylenetetramine (tetam) as the structure-directing agent and ethylene glycol as the solvent. The structure of the compound was solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. [C6H21N4][Al3P4O16] crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with a=9.550(1), b=24.064(1), c=9.601(1) Å, β=97.99(1)°, V=2184.9(1) Å3 and Z=4 (R=0.057 and Rw=0.052), and its structure consists of [Al3P4O16]3− macroanionic sheets stacked in an AAAA sequence. As primary building units in the individual sheet, alternating PO4 with terminal P=O and AlO4 tetrahedra are corner-shared to form elliptical eight-membered rings as well as four- and six-membered rings. The macroanionic sheets are held together through H bonds between the terminal P=O groups in the inorganic layers and the N atoms of the tetam molecules, which are triply-protonated.

Abstract:The compound [Al3P4O16]3−·3[CH3CH2NH3]+has been synthesized from the nonaqueous system H3PO4–(iPrO)3Al–CH3CH2NH2–CH3(CH2)3OH. It has been definitively characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, with space groupP21/mand unit cella=8.920(2),b=14.896(2),c=9.363(2) Å,β=106.07(2)°, andV=1191.6(4)Å3. The structure consists of [Al3P4O16]3−sheets with a 4×6×8 network. This contains individual AlO4and PO4centered tetrahedral in the ratio of 3/4, in which all AlO4vertices are shared but each PO4has one terminal P=O. These are projected alternatively above and below the 2-D sheet and are hydrogen bonded to the ethylammonium ions which serve to template the structure. They give rise to elliptical eight-membered rings, which have a cavity size of 3.8×6.0Å and anAAAAstacking sequence. This compound thus strengthens the family of 4×6×8 and 4×6×12 nets withAAAAorABABstackings for [Al3P4O16]3−, allowing rationalization based on the amine template length and functional multiplicity. Additional characterizations of the compound by XRD, SEM, IR spectroscopy, inductive coupled plasma analysis, TGA, and DTA are also described.

Abstract:For the purpose of preparing pillared phosphates, the intercalation of n-alkylamine and n-amino-alcohol in layered alpha-Zr(HPO4)(2) . H2O(alpha-ZrP) and its effect on the structure and properties of the layered phosphate have been investigated in detail, It was found that the delamination degree is related with the nature and the amount of amine added, and the extent of HPO42- hydrolysis is dependent both on the basicity of the amine and the delamination degree, The delaminated sheets are metastable, and they may recover their ordered arrangement and experience phase transformations in air, The XRD results and the approximate calculation of the model structures of the intercalates show that a bilayer orientation of the n-alkylamine and n-amino-alcohol molecules is formed when the intercalates are saturated, After long time exposure in air, the intercalates of methylamine and ethylamine will lose about 50% of the amine and transfer to a monolayer orientation, but the intercalates of n-propylamine, n-butylamine and n-animo-alcohol still keep a bilayer orientation.

Abstract:A new two-dimensional aluminophosphate layer [Al2P3O10(OH)2][C6NH 8] (compound 1) has been prepared from an alcoholic system using 4-methylpyridine (C6NH7) as a template. The as-synthesized product is characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, dynamic thermogravimetric, and 31P-, 27Al-, and 13C magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR analyses. The structure has been solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1 crystallized in the monoclinic space group P21/c (no. 14), with a = 8.686 (3) Å, b = 21.240 (3) Å, c = 8.799 (2) Å, β = 113.23 (3)°, and Z = 4. The inorganic layers are constructed from alternating aluminum units (AlO4 and AlO5) and phosphorus units [PO4, PO3(OH), PO2(=O)(OH)] and are featured by rows of edge-sharing bridged six-membered rings (6MRs) and zigzag four rings (4MRs). The layers are held with each other through strong H-bondings between the terminal oxygens attached to the 2-connected phosphate groups in adjacent layers. The organic ammonium cations (C6NH8 +) are located in the large cavities between the interlayer regions. The structural features and relationships in the anionic aluminophosphates with Al2P3O12 3- stoichiometry, including compound 1 and previously reported compounds, are discussed. Furthermore, new two-dimensional (2-D) networks have been proposed on the basis of the discovered building rules for aluminophosphates with Al2P3O12 3- stoichiometry.

Abstract:Intercalated nanocomposite based on Mg, Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) was prepared using exfoliation-adsorption technique, and characterized by X-ray diffraction and thermal gravimetric analysis. The results suggest that the intercalated species are formed via the re-aggregation of the delaminated LDH lamellar with the interlayer spacing 14.5Å, and the thermal stability of the nanocomposite improved compared with the original PVA.
Synthesis of PMA/ZnAl-LDH intercalation nanocomposite by in situ polymerization and its morphology

Abstract:A poly (methyl acrylate) (PMA)/ZnAl layered double hydroxide (ZnAl-LDH) intercalation nanocomposite is synthesized by in situ polymerization of methyl acrylate with ogano-modified ZnAl-LDH (O-ZnAl-LDH). Its structure and morphology are confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image. The d(001) of O-ZnAl-LDH is expanded to 2.85 nm after polymerization from 2.63 nm, which indicates the intercalation of PMA chains into the galleries of O-ZnAl-LDH. The (001) diffraction of PMA/ZnAl-LDH nanocomposite is broad due to the exfoliation of some O-ZnAl-LDH layers. The TEM image shows that the most of the layers of O-ZnAl-LDH are stacked with a distance of about 3 nm while some of them are exfoliated and dispersed disorderly in the PMA matrix.

Abstract:The reduction of interfacial interaction and the deterioration of processing properties of aluminum hydrides (AlH 3 ) is the main challenges preventing its practical application. Here, a simple and effective core–shell structure aluminum hydrides@polydopamine (AlH 3 @PDA) complex was constructed through in-situ polymerization. The evolution of element states on the surface of AlH 3 conducted by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated the successful introduction of PDA to form the core@shell structure, the thickness of the PDA coated layer increased with the increasing PDA dosage from 0.1 to 1.6% in mass fraction, and the maximum of thickness is 50 nm in TEM testing. Py GC/MS results proved that the increase of dopamine concentration leads to higher proportions of self-assemble units, whereas lower dopamine concentrations favor higher levels of chemical bonded components. Regarding whether PDA is a covalent polymer or a noncovalent aggregate of some species, the formation of intermediates, such as dopaminechrome and 5,6-dihydroxyindole played an important role to coordination interaction with AlH 3 in FTIR, Raman, and UV–Vis spectra testing. Compared with pure AlH 3 , the formation of organic PDA coating improved AlH 3 heat resistance. The adhesion work with GAP adhesive was also improved from 107.02 J/m 2 of pure AlH 3 to 111.13 mJ/m 2 of AlH 3 @PDA-5 complex. This paper provides well support for further practical application of AlH 3 in solid propellants.

Abstract:The fabrication of a Langmuir-Blodgett film/alumina multilayer structure of aluminium stearate (AlSt3)/alumina (Al2O3) is reported here for the first time. Three monolayers of AlSt3 and one Al2O3 layer form a period of the multilayer system with periodicity 11–13.5 nm. The first seven orders of Bragg peaks were observed in the low angle X-ray diffraction spectrum of an 11-layer AlSt3/Al2O3 sample. A comparison between the measurements and calculations of the X-ray diffraction pattern is presented. Auger electron spectroscopy depth profile measurements showed the modulated distribution of oxygen, carbon and aluminium and revealed the ion diffusion reaction between CdSt2 and Al2O3 film.

Abstract:The microcrystal alloy sheets could be fabricated by electron-beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) method because the technique can provide deposition rate up to 100 nm/s. The multilayers sheet of the Ti-Al system intermetallic compound was formed by Al foils pack cementation aluminizing at 700 and subsequent annealing at 1000 on Ti-alloy sheet fabricated by electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) technique. Surfaces and cross-sections of the specimens were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Phase identification of the oxide scale was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Energy Dispersive Analysis of X-rays (EDAX). The aluminized coating consists of Al3Ti with smooth and clear interface with dramatic changes of the element Ti and Al. After annealing at 1000 degrees C, TiAl and Al2Ti were formed and three phase boundaries were observed. There were no macro-defect such as crack and void in the multilayers of intermetallic compound.

Abstract:The products of microporous aluminophosphate AlPO4-11 crystallized for different periods of time were freeze-dried and characterized by XRD and NMR techniques. Six crystallographically distinct Al- and P-centered large fragments and 34 small fragments of dimer (Al–P), trimer (Al–P–Al and P–Al–P), tetramer (Al–P3 and P–Al3), pentamer (Al–P4 and P–Al4), and 4- and 6-membered rings were extracted from the framework of AlPO4-11. Each of the six large fragments contained two completed coordination layers surrounding the centered atom. The shielding tensors of the Al and P atoms of the fragments were calculated using the quantum mechanics density functional theory. The experimentally observed chemical shifts of Al or P from the well-crystallized AlPO4-11 were assigned to the shielding tensors of the center atoms of the six large fragments and were further used as references in the determination of the chemical shifts of the Al or P atoms in the small fragments. A comparison of the calculated chemical shifts of the Al and P atoms in the small fragments to the experimental data of the products isolated at different crystallization periods suggested that the fragments of dimers, trimers of the form Al–P–Al, tetramers of the form P–Al3, and pentamers may exist in the crystallization process of AlPO4-11. On the basis of these observations regarding the putative small fragments, a possible crystallization process of AlPO4-11 was proposed.

Abstract:A new intercalation compound based on Mg/Al-layered double hydroxide (Mg/Al-LDH) with polymerizable acrylamide (AM) which cannot be synthesized by direct coprecipitation reaction, was achieved via in-situ hydrothermal method with the existence of glycine. The well-crystallized AM-intercalated Mg/Al-LDH was characterized by XRD, FTIR, DTA and scanning electronic microscopy. Basal spacing of the Mg/Al-LDH intercalation compound is 1.32 nm. Polymerization of AM incorporated into Mg/Al-LDH interlayer space occurs after 160 degrees C heat treatment, which indicates that the preparation of PAM/LDH nanocomposite is feasible via in-situ polymerization route. Abstract:A series of Hydroxy-Fe-Al Pillared Clays (FeAl-PILC) containing mixed-metal complexes with various Fe/Al ratios were prepared by two methods. The structure of the pillaring solution was studied by Al-27-NMR, UV, ESR. The structure and thermal stability of the pillared clays were determined by XRD, DTA, UV-DRS. The results suggest that the basal spacings are 1.98-1.55nm. The pillaring structure, surface area and thermal stability of FeAl-PILC are greatly affected by Fe/Al ratios in pillaring solution, FeAl-PILC products with Fe/Al ratio<0.5 have the pillaring structure the pillaring structure similar to that of Al-PILC, but FeAl-PILC products with Fe/Al ratio >= 0.5 have the pillaring structure similar to that of Fe-PILC. The basal spacings, surface area and thermal stability decrease with increasing of Fe/Al ratio.

Abstract:This work presents the process of phase transformation and chemical ordering in an FePd alloy thin film. The study focuses on a multilayered Fe/Pd system undergoing a postdeposition annealing process. The annealing induces morphological and structural changes in the samples, which were observed by using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray reflectivity, and conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy. The microscopic structural properties were examined at various stages of annealing to track the progress of the chemical ordering and transformation. Our findings reveal that the transformation to the L10 phase occurs through a multiphase process with two distinct paths: first, with stoichiometric (A1–A6), and second, off-stoichiometric (L12-L1′) intermediate phases. Both paths start with cubic fcc structures that undergo tetragonal distortion and successive chemical ordering to the L10 phase. The observed increase in transformation effectiveness correlates well with the surface diffusion-induced dewetting phenomenon and a change in the kinetic phase growth process from a low-dimensional to a three-dimensional growth mechanism. These phenomena primarily affect the growth of the L10 phase, which is particularly interesting for material science, spintronics, and sensorics. The use of conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy allows us to study of these effects at an atomic level not accessible by other techniques.

Abstract:The delamination of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) was supposed to be achieved in a microemulsion composed of octane, N-lauroyl-glutamate, butanol and water. In the X-ray diffraction patterns of LDHs, the diffraction peaks at low angle regions disappeared when the amount of octane reached a proper degree in the microemulsion, indicating that LDH layers might be delaminated, which is further proved by carbonate-exchange experiments. Furthermore, polyvinyl acetate/LDH nanocomposites were prepared via in situ intercalative polymerisation, in which vinyl acetate monomer was dispersed onto the sheets of delaminated LDHs, followed by thermal polymerisation. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites was improved compared with the polymer matrix, and the enhanced extent of the thermal stability increased with increasing loading amounts of delaminated LDHs.
